Rating: Summary: TALENTED YOUNG CAST. Review: "My Bodyguard" is a story about high school sophomore Clifford Peache (Chris Makepeace). On just his first day of school, he pisses off the class bully Melvin Moody (Matt Dillon). Later, Moody corners Clifford in the bathroom and tells him that he provides "protection" to a lot of the kids for a dollar a day. Clifford considers that to be extortion and decides he'll have no part of it. Needless to say, that just makes Moody target him even more. Clifford employs the assistance of another kid in the class named Ricky Linderman (Adam Baldwin). Ricky has a shady past and there are rumors floating around that he killed a cop and assaulted a teacher. Clifford decides to hire Ricky to be his bodyguard. It works for a while because Moody is afraid to fight him.Of course, there would be no movie if everything went smoothly after this little arrangement. Problems develop and the situation escalates until the predictable ending. While "My Bodyguard" isn't anything amazing, it is saved by an amiable script, decent direction and especially a talented young cast. This was the first starring role for both Adam Baldwin and Joan Cusack. As always, Joan was wonderful in a role which was small but showed that she was going to be a promising new actress. This was only the second major role for Matt Dillon and it really helped to establish him as a hot young actor as well. Martin Mull, Ruth Gordon and an appearance by John Houseman rounded out the capable cast. "My Bodyguard" is one of those rare high school movies that actually stars teenagers. That is always a plus because it helps add to the reality. You truly believe that these could be kids facing actual problems. It doesn't come across as a bunch of twentysomethings playing parts. However, this film falls short in a key area. It ends up sending the message that if you are being hassled in high school then try and fight your way out of it. I guess the fact that you may end up hospitalized or expelled is unimportant. Not everyone is a good fighter and not everyone has the privilege of having a bodyguard. What about them?
Rating: Summary: Abolutely wonderful Review: "My Bodyguard" is my all-time favorite movie. The plot is believable, the characters are actually human, and the dialogue is realistic. The performances are brilliant. Chris Makepeace and Adam Baldwin are two of the most talented actors I've ever seen. They create characters that you can care for and sympathize with. There's a little rough language and a little violence, but overall it's a great film for all age groups.
Rating: Summary: Liked it at 10, loved it at 33 Review: ... When I saw the My Bodyguard DVD ...I thought what the hell. I got home and was genually moved by it, and could remember all of it. This simple story of teen friendship without gun play, thumping soundtrack, or computer imagery. The acting is good (great in the case of Matt Dillon), and yes there are some descrete hints that it may be more than friendship... A pity that its a bare bones release,...
Rating: Summary: My favorite all-time movie Review: A funny and touching story. Loved all the characters. Recommend for children who can't watch very many clean movies these days.
Rating: Summary: mikeknox.com Review: A little kid gets bullied around by Matt Dillon so he hires a body guard to protect him and then the bully hires himself a bodyguard. And then that bodyguard hires another and another and another! Can't we all just get along.
Rating: Summary: full of bullying fun! Review: A real good movie, with a simple but good plot. Interesting characters froom Clifford's body guard Ricky Linderman to Mooney's body guard Mike. Clifford's own grandmother nearly steals the show with her funny mannerisms and antics!---A must see! Bullying at it's best, with Matt Dillon's text-book bullying tactics!
Rating: Summary: ..AND SO BEGINS THE EIGHTIES.... Review: As the seventies slipped into the eighties,We as a generation were surrendering the innocence of Benji,The Love Bug, and Witch Mountain to the harsh realities of cliques, bullies and class lines--the banes of our adolecent existence.Filmed several years before teen films would become as much about their soundtracks as they were their content, this is an outstanding example of a coming-of-age film done right.Filled with actors rather than stars portraying characters rather than stereotypes. It manages to hit it's mark, simply and quietly.Sure, the production is dated, but it's message is timeless.A great film to pop in when your child has had a bad day at school to show that,Yes we've all been there and we all get through it!
Rating: Summary: long live "Mike" Review: At last "My Bodygaurd" is being released on DVD. I got turned on to this movie as a kid, when it was shown on HBO 3 times a day. I watched it every time. For me the most memorable character is "Mike" He is "Moody"'s bodygaurd. He's bald, big and tough...I remember thinking as a kid that one of the scariest people I could come accross at a new school or neighborhood would be "Mike"... Matt Dillon says "Heeeey Miiike..." Mike- "hey Linderman, you pickin on my friend Moody again? hear your a real tough...huh?....huh?...real tough guy...huh? break teacher's legs? Rape old ladies? yeah your a real tough guy. I want to see how tough you are. What's this? a chain? what's this chain gonna make you tough...come on..let's see what you got... Hey killa...hey killa, why you on your knee's? you queer or something?...i'm gonna give you and your friends 3 seconds to get out of here...ah, without the bike, it's Moody's now... one........tew." Seriously check this out...Chris Makepeace is also a great actor. Awesome soundtrack too. Besides the delights of Mike, Matt Dillons awesome as "Moody", and in al seriousness this a a great movie. tew

Rating: Summary: Cinema Masterpiece Review: Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, Citizen Kane, and othermasterpieces will NEVER come close to this 80's classic. Matt Dillionand Chris Makepeace are the Newman and Redford of the eighties. Never before have these two acted together. Why did we have to wait so long? The story is a typical classic of the bully next door picking on the little guy. Chris Makepiece (who also played an Oscar winning performance as Rudy in Meatballs) plays the ever so meekish wimp in the movie masterfully. His paleness, frailty, and may I say struggle with sexually identity, does nothing more than draw you closer to the character. Adam Baldwin (who also stared as that zaney Camp Director in Poison Ivy) does a brilliant job of protecting his friend against the testosterone filled, angry, come from a broken home family, bully (Matt Dillion). As you watch the friendship and tension grow from friendship to love, you are a dissapointed that Chris and Adam don't get together in the end. And let's not forget the veteran actress Ruth Gordon, (with such riviting supporting roles from Every Which Way but Loose and Bronco Billy) who does nothing but bring this film from the fire like a Phoenix. The story line: epic. The directing: tantillizing. The acting: Superbly done with just a dash of Jean La Pefome' Da Cu for added SPICE. (Forgive me but I do tend to get excited.) If you have a life savings that is just waiting to be invested on a return that will bring eternal fortune, please buy My Bodyguard for the friends and family. You will not be disappointed. :)
