Summary: The Preraphaelite Enigma of Joyce Hyser
Review: In the life of every artist (I'm a painter, movie-director and writer)there is always the climax of his aesthetic and spiritual perception of that realm the common sense uses to define reality! When the english painter Wallis painted his master-work "The Death of Chatterton" in 1858 he was in tune with that misterious vision of the young beauty conceived in its eternal being, over every sexual distinctions, in the concept of the androgynous made popular by the neoplatonic tought of Walter Pater and Algernon C. Swinburne. In the same sense I discovered two years ago the delightful character of Terry/Hyser in a strange american comedy of the '80, like a distant reminiscence of my childish experience of the puberty and its dreadful and lovely secrets. No one else before and after Hyser had given a better and more genuine physical and behaviour projection of the duality of human soul, his dreamy complexity in the looking for the complete knowledege of himself. I think this movie had a more esoteric and hidden meaning than the mere appearence expressed by the plot and the characters. Pay attention! This is a personal evaluation of an aesthetic spirit (look at another movie like "Death and Love in Long Island" or "Death in Venezia" of Visconti): according to me this is the must of the american comedy production of the '80 and '90. The importance of the movie is, without any doubts, the occult power of the character of Hyser....some one else can say me where is she at this moment?It's very sad to see how a great talent like Hyser disappeared so fast in about 14 years of cinema..........the enigma is eternal........

Review: I happened to come across Just one of the Guys on TV the other day, and with absolutely nothing else to do that day, I decided, what the heck, why not just give this 80's teen sex farce a shot. At any rate, it was bound to be better than Porky's and I might even get a few cheap laughs in the process. To my surprise, Just One of the Guys turned out to be one of the better teen comedies I've seen in a long, long time (I was no fan of American Pie and its kin), thanks in no small part to Joyce Hyser.The premise is gimmicky. Basically, hottie teen Terry (Joyce Hyser) decides to dress up like a guy and prove that she can get her previously rejected article published if she were a man. Well, she ends up befriending a loner named Rick (Claton Rohner), but does so while in drag. She thinks it's up to her to help him out by getting him a date for the prom, but whatta you know, she starts to fall for him and the rest can't be hard to guess from there. Okay, I realize I just made this movie sound pretty bad, but if you actually give it a shot, you might find it rather enjoyable. Surprisingly enough, there's not that much nudity to speak of (mostly male, though Hyser does give us a quick shot of her (...)) and the humor isn't half as smutty as I'd expected. Rather, the humor we're given is Terry's balancing act between her "old" self and this new identity she's created. Admittedly, not all the jokes work, but there are a lot of inspired moments that keep the momentum going. Take, for instance, the girl (Sherilyn Fenn) who has a crush on Terry; what could have been a set-up for a cruel and/or tasteless gross-out is given a little weight, and the way this subplot is resolved is satisfying and actually even a little sweet. As you can see, the film prefers to use its premise not for gross-out gags, but to build a cute love story, and yeah, it does a pretty good job at that. Hyser and Rohner have appealing chemistry, though it's Hyser who gets the lion's share of the work. Having to balance between playing a very pretty girl and a convincing male teen isn't easy, but she pulls it off with flying colors. Obviously, the film is going to end with Rick discovering Terry's real identity. That scene is handled rather well, but I found the epilogue a little too abrupt to be entirely satisfying. I found myself caring a lot about these characters; would have been nice to know where they ended up from there. But enough with the quibbles. Sure, Just One of the Guys isn't a great movie, not by a long shot, but it takes the time to make us care about the characters and situation, and while the lack of potty humor might not make it as gut-bustingly hilarious (if potty humor is your preference, that is) as some of today's offerings, the fact that the movie touched me made it superior to just about any other teen comedy I've seen in a long, long time.

Summary: Totally Underrated
Review: This movie is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Joyce Hyser (what happened to her, anyway?) did a great job playing male and female "Terry." Her brother, played by Billy Jacoby was a total goofball and one of the funniest characters in the whole movie! I love the part when he kept faking orgasms just to annoy Terry's friend and Terry herself. Clayton Rohner wasn't really funny, but he did a great job playing Terry's love interest that she couldn't really be interested in when she was pretending to be guy. The ending was kind of stupid, I think anyways. A typical '80's ending but stupider then most. But other then that, this movie is very, very funny. A real feel-good movie, but don't show it to little kids. I didn't see until I was at least 14 and I'm glad I didn't because I wouldn't have understood it very well. Enjoy it!

Summary: The pinnacle of 80's teen comedy
Review: Predictable, but loveable. The acting is poor, the characters are shallow, the jokes are lowbrow. This film totally lacks the depth of The Breakfast Club, but also its retentiousness. Precisely because it doesn't make you think, can let you just sit back and laugh at the contrived hijinks. Quotable and lovable.

Review: I agree with the previous reviewers. This is a very underrated film! It is very funny and unlike some of the "mindless" teen oriented movies out there, this movie actually is full of great sophisticated comedy. Joyce Hyser acting in playing the dual role of male "Terry" is superb. I'm surprised she didn't appear in more films. Billy Jackoby is great as the wisecracking brother, and Clayton Rohner is superb as "Terry"'s secret love interest. You won't be disappointed buying this movie!

Summary: Just One Of The Guys
Review: One of my favorite comedy movies of all time, and i've personally seen thousands in various genres. A light comedy from the 80's that i've probably viewed at least 75 times or more over the years. The acting is superb by everyone cast in the movie. Some of the funnier characters are her brother Billy and also the 2 Trekkies at school. If you're looking for a great 80's teen comedy then don't look any further. When will this ever be released on DVD?!? I'll buy 10 copies for myself if someone would listen and re-release it on DVD!!!

Review: This is a pretty good movie to kill a couple of hours on a saturday morning. It's funny and keeps you interested even if it is quite predictable.
it's a very 80s movie! right down to the clothes and the cheesy background music.
Billy Jacobi plays the younger brother, Buddy. He is the comic relief of the film and I laugh alot at his character.
Ayre Gross, who was on the show Ellen, plays one of the geeks'. He thinks he's an alien. Also, A very young Sherilynn Fenn plays in this movie as a sex starved teen after the male "Terri". She is cute, and this is a cute film that spawned from the 1980s.

Review: I am a big fan of all 80s movies but this is one of my favorites. I can watch it over and over again. I love everyone in it. I would DEFINETLY recommend this movie to anyone that can appreciate a good comedy. "Mr. Veno, the driver's ed teacher, just ran over a dog. Should I take photography"
