Rating: Summary: perfect description of life in a white trash town Review: Everybody is stressing the fact that this movie has no plot, but that is the point. Life is very unpredictable,it has no plot, and that is what this movie is trying to sugest. This is one of the best movies i have ever seen and I would recomend it to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Stupid, mindless, and attemps to shock. Review: If this director never gets to direct again it will be a blessing to us all. No plot, overboard characters with the sole intention to shock, and rampant stupidity. I didnt think it was "arty" watching little kids curse, drown cats, or shoot elderly people with pellet guns. Its just one pointless scene after another. And anyone that believes that there is a sizeable population of people like this is severly mistaken. This film is nothing more than trash trying to disquise itself as "a portrait of the lower class." Bull.
Rating: Summary: PITYFULL Review: Just what the world needs,a cinematic A-Z of American white trash.Look you Americans gave TRAINSPOTTING subtitles, how about some for this crap so we can understand what the endless spew of human garbage were droaning on about? Not that anything was of any interest to the everage viewer unless he/she had been an extra in DELIVERENCE!! e.g "yew nar I used ta shoot cats...."
Rating: Summary: One of the best Psuedo Documentaries Of all time Review: First, people who bad mouth this movie have no art sense. This movie is pure Genius. To some it might not have a general plot. Don't look at it as a whole movie, it's more like a pulp fiction type piece it together deal. It is just showing you a different lifestyle, like watching a national geographic about some tribe. Anyone who seen this movie can't say they didn't laugh at the majority of the movie..I mean come on..... that junkyard seen with the rabbit boy and thoses 2 little kids, that was the best part. Maybe my review isn't makin much sense like you think the movie didn't but, i recommend it to anyone who hates traditional movies, like myself. Definitely an eye opener.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant view of a class seldom thought about Review: This is the most amazing movie I've had the pleasure of viewing. I remember watching it at the theatre and being deeply affected by it. As I was walking out I heard two obviously over-priveledged young women say, "What was the point?" Exactly the point....I believe that people are unaware of the awful state of underpriveledged, uneducated white America. I was forced to grow up in an environment similar to that of the people in Xenia, Ohio and I was in awe by the detail of the movie. Harmonie was able to capture the truth of the lower-class people of the midwest. The symbolism was great. The costume design was brilliant. The direction was phenomenal. The acting was fabulous (Chloe Sevigny). It seems this movie was intended not to entertain, but to raise awareness. Most of us, including types of people that the movie focused on, don't have a clue that life is that bad for some....in the heartland of America--the land of opportunity, Gummo still exists....that to me, is a good point. Brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Well.... Review: O.K., I suppose that I should get this out of the way first, THIS MOVIE HAS NO SIGN OF A PLOT WHATSOEVER. There done. Now if put that part aside and just take the movie for what is (a film about some deeply disturbed kids), than the movie can be somewhat enjoyable. Somewhat. It's painfully obvious form the very beginning that this film is trying to be shocking. It works on some levels, depending on how desensitized you are to disturbing images/actions/words (if there is any part of this movie that does not disturb you in some sort of way, I truly feel sorry for you). The movie certainly drags on in some areas which is a sure fire sign that some more time should have been spent in the editing room. Oh well, better luck next time. Probably the greatest thing about this film is the soundtrack. If you are into underground metal, you can't go wrong here. Just a thought.
Rating: Summary: POOR EXAMPLE OF AN INDIE FILM Review: If you're looking for another Kids ( a movie with an actual plot and conflict) don't look here. Gummo is extremely boring. I cannot stress this point enough. It is mind numbing. It follows the lives of people in an incredibly white trash neighborhood after a devastating tornado. Sounds like it might be interesting. Unfortunately, the fact that it has no plot (come on people, it has NO DAMN PLOT) severely handicaps it's possibility of being interesting. I suppose by giving this movie a bad review I'll be called an artless, Hollywood loving, Keanu Reeves fan. Well fine. I'll admit it. I like my movies to have a plot and an occasional conflict. Strange, I know. However, these are the vital organs of any movie. Because this movie has no meaning or plot, it brings the trend seekers out of the wood work. Alot of people will say they like it in the hopes of being viewed as profoundly intelligent and a true art connoisseur. I'm sure Gummo gained many of it's fans through this accidental and unfortunate quality. The fact is, THIS MOVIE HAS NO PLOT (can i stress this enough?) and there is no deep profound meaning. It's plain and simply boring. I want to apologize to those of you who like this movie for what it is. For you live with the unfortunate tragedy of being born without taste.
Rating: Summary: And now, for something deliciously different! Review: At first I wasn't too sure that I wanted to see this movie since most movie critics hated it with a passion, but after the first several minutes, I thought "Whoa! This is really something!" I never saw a film before that was so true to white trash America. There's not much of a plot, which is the way real life operates. Most of the characters seem to be desperately searching for ways to get by and entertain themselves without spending much money. Although a few of the scenes should have ended up on the cutting room floor, there were some scenes that I had to see again and again. My favorite scenes included those two shirtless little boys pretending to kill that speechless kid with the pink bunny ears, that weird-looking boy on the box cover lifting silverwear in front of the mirror, and those two blond girls bouncing topless on the bed. I could have done without the cat drowning scene, since I love cats. Overall, it's a film well worth watching, especially if you're stoned.
Rating: Summary: strange Review: this is a dope movie. i have yet to meet another person who actually enjoyed it. anyway you should see it. it is entertaining in a very sick way. not as good as kids but still worth seeing.
Rating: Summary: Breathtakingly Stupid Review: I alternated between watching the film with the sound on/off. Off was preferable as at least my invented dialogue (?!) was less cliche' ridden than Korine's. What was with giving so many of these demented fools Southern accents? Xenia is in Ohio. What a sophisticated touch by a master satirist. Right. 'Art'? I doubt it. 'Entertainment'? Only for the vastly limited and utterly undiscerning. I did think the kid was cute though. Odd looking but cute. Wouldn't trust him with my cat however.
