Rating: Summary: Once you go in you cant come out Review: Gummo a movie about the horrors we drive by every day and never see. That is what Harvey Korine does with Gummo he shows us what we are blind from. Gummo is one movie you have to see and remember. Once you see it you will never forget it, that I promise you that..
Rating: Summary: A Call To Revolution Review: For those who love "cinema" and not just "movies" - with their dull methodical linear narratives ABC 123, GUMMO will make you leap out of your seat and destroy the screen in pure elation. Any 10 minutes of this film radiates more vitality than all 2+ hours of such visual festers as ARMAGEDDON or GODZILLA.
Rating: Summary: ow, im scared Review: all i can figure is that i hyperextended my brain on this movie, didnt stretch properly or something. i guess the problem really was that i had no idea what i was getting in to. i had to go to a university sponsered event for a class and i was running out of options.... "gummo" i thought "that sounds harmless and entertaining!"i think i stayed under my bed for a week after i saw it
Rating: Summary: well.... Review: This movie, is the type of film that will deeply affect you, and stay with you much longer than you would want it to. Overall, any film that can illicit as much emotion from me as this one did has some value, but still its intensly disturbing view of white trash life can be hard to stomach at times. I would recommend this film if you are looking for a unique and oddly deep movie, but if you are the excessivley emotional type who is already beginning to lose all faith in humanity, then stay away, because this will send you over the edge!
Rating: Summary: I THINK THAT THE REDHAIRED KID IS HIS OWN GRANDPA! Review: Definitely a change from the run-of-the-mill, been-there-done-that flicks of today. Personally, I found it interesting. Those who aren't offended by it will watch it a second time just to see if their eyes & ears deceived them the first time! And the third time you watch will be to convince yourself that they certainly must have used 'special effects' for the 'meal-in-the-bathtub' scene at the end ! NOT FOR THE FAINT AT HEART, but worth checking out. Just make sure first, that your cats are inside, and the kids are asleep.
Rating: Summary: backlash backlash backlash Review: Wow. This movie was pretty bad overall, but let me illuminate the good points.1. It did make me uncomfortable at times, and bringing feelings of any sort to an audience is a good thing. 2. The acting was awkwardly good. I believed the hicks were hicks (even Claire Whateverherlastnameis) I believed the retarded people were retarded, and I believed the midget was a midget. 3. The depiction of white trash (lifestyle, language, fear, etc.) was 100 percent accurate. I should know. Even with these positive points, the film really sucked. Filming with novice actors and with video is no excuse for having the actors deliver lines terribly. The disjointed storyline wasn't really amusing or interesting as it can be if handled well (see David Lynch's "Lost Highway" if you're somewhat mainstream, see Crispin Glover's "What Is It?" if you're not.) Contrary to popular belief, those who didn't appreciate Gummo probably aren't heretics, Republicans, or impossibly ignorant of the concept of art (which is actually very hard to pin down) they just probably didn't like the movie.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT, UNIQUE MOVIE THAT OPEN-MINDED PEOPLE WILL LOVE! Review: All of you who hated this movie make me laugh...you have absolutely no freedom of express and are extremely narrow-minded....i think you all need to open up a little bit and realize that the world isnt black and white, and not everyone lives in a "donna reed" world! LIGHTEN UP! ENJOY IT!
Rating: Summary: See This Movie Review: Okay people, it is very rare that I see a movie so good I would write an online review, but I have found it! Gummo is one of the best movies I have ever seen. This is the kind of movie that you will love or hate...but I bet you'll love it. And like me, you won't be able to see it once...you'll buy it. Gummo is a true classic, not to be missed. I know you guys hear things like this all the time, but you gotta trust me on this one! --Peachy
Rating: Summary: Give it a go .... Review: Gummo is a refreshing change from the often trite and samey world of 'indie' cinema ( usually nothing of the sort ). It is genuinely experimental and embraces the use of video, an essential tool in the weaponary of modern filmmakers who are broke, although I doubt Korine is . So if you have the stomach for it ( some scenes are nauseating and darkly comic ) then I would thoroughly recommend that you give Gummo a go . You'll love it or hate it but you wont forget it . The only problem I see for Korine is that because of it's rather unique style another film like Gummo would appear to be merely covering the same ground . Oh yeah....Leonard Maltin hates it so this is all the more reason to watch . Happy Viewing .
Rating: Summary: Gummo...what a treat... Review: I'm not going to in-depth as to why i love this movie, and consider it a piece of comedic supra-genius. All I will say is watch it, buy it. I mean if Nas and DMX liked it in Belly, how can you pass this opportunity up? Also, there is a classic scene where this midget wrestles a chair, and that's worth ten bucks right there. I love white trash. DDP they ain't, but hilarious nonetheless.
