Summary: Just What THIS Girl Wants
Review:
...even more of Colin Firth. This highly entertaining film took full advantage of the gentleman's impressive acting ability, and undoubtedly saved it from being just another "teenage girl" movie.
The story centers on Daphne Reynolds (played by Amanda Bynes) who had been raised by her free-spirited, wedding-singer mother (Kelly Preston) in New York for seventeen years. Since, for the majority of her life Daphne has been missing her absent father, Lord Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth), she sets off for London to be reunited (or united in this case, as he is not even aware of her existance) with him.
The obvious cliches in films such as these, are for the most part, avoided by Firth's and Bynes's skills in communicating not only their inner turmoil but several more open emotions as well. For example, during an unexpected afternoon together, the mutual respect and appreciation growing between them while shopping and relaxing, becomes apparent from simply watching their faces.

As a result, the ending, which could have been doomed to smarmy tripe, was saved by the appealing chemistry between these two. Less impressive, however, was the performances by Kelly Preston and Oliver James (who plays Daphne's boyfriend while in London). I thought Miss Preston walked rather woodenly through her role, making her sudden reawakening of passion not quite believable. Mr. James was likable enough, but his character was far less defined than the others; thus, when Daphne returns to New York we are left wondering why he would ever miss her.
On the whole, I did enjoy this film very much, mainly because any movie which allows Colin Firth to dance before a mirror in tight, leather pants must be good.

Summary: Wonderful Movie!
Review: I found this to be a charming and very funny movie. Definitely not just for young people. The love story with Colin Firth and Kelly Preston is great! Recommended for all ages.

Summary: Very Pleasently Suprised!
Review: Okay, I'm a Colin Firth fan. I went to this movie simply because he was in it and I didn't expect to enjoy it all that much. From the trailers I thought it would be a stupid adolescent flick. What it turned out to be was a great "old fashion" movie. Wonderful/good acting, a lot of romance, and yes... predictable. If you like old romantic movies I highly suggest it! I had many moments with teary eyes, and even a full tear running down my cheek by the end.

Summary: What A Girl Wants is what a girl wants!
Review: When I went to see this movie, I figured it would be mostly jokes since the star was Amanda Bynes, but it wasn't. This movie was more like a drama and Amanda Bynes can definitely pull it off. I have been watching Amanda Bynes for awhile, and so far she has done very good in everything she's been in. The cast of this movie was very well picked. So see this movie!

Review: This is a very entertaining film...funny, sentimental, with a happy ending. Fathers and daughters should go together to see it. Warning to daughters: if you dont go with your dad, you'll want to call him when you get home ! Would recommend it to anyone.

Summary: What an Auidence Wants -Something New
Review: What can I say about what a Girl wants. Thank heaven's Colin Firth is in it. I like Lord Henry Dashwood. He is a good man who went off the track just a little. The movie is beyond perdicitable when you see the two teen characters meet you know they will become a couple in five seconds. When you see them on a boat on the lake you know they will tip in the water. What would become of a teen movie without a shopping spree scene? Thank goodness this movie has two.(Double our pleasure) You can probably guess what will happen with her parents from the moment they break up in the beginning.

There are some very warm moments between Firth and Amanda Bynes the daughter and I enjoyed Kelly Preston more than I have in a long time. This movie can leave you wanting something new but all the characters make the most of the script and I must say this movie is completely family friendly. No Oscar nods here but any movie smart enough to cast Colin Firth as a dashing dad get a mild recommendation from me.

Summary: An American Girl In London
Review: If one motion picture ever was in the running for "Worst Movie of 2003" (so far), well, "What A Girl Wants" would be near the top of the list. For one thing, this film's storyline just floats about - not sure about the type of message it wants to convey to its audience, leaving the viewer to just sit through the entire movie with his/her jaw dropping and thinking, "Huh?!!?" Another thing "WAGW" has going against it, is the dialogue throughout the movie, not to mention the script, both of which look and sound as if they were written by your everyday run-of-the-mill angst-ridden teenager, which can't be a good thing. It's a mystery how this girl wound up living with a politically aspired royal family, let alone how the film's main character (played by Colin Firth), became her father. Furthermore, there's a distinct possibility this man could've been born in the U.S. (which explains his giving birth to an American daughter, although he might have wed an American woman while in the States). And, if this man was born in the U.S., then how could he be able to run for a seat in the British House of Commons (even though raised in Britain), or even for Town Crier, for that matter. What earns "What A Girl Wants" a two-star rating, is the unique and distinctive charm of the sights and sounds of London and environs. Otherwise, this so-called "dramatic comedy" (of which there is very little - comedy, that is) falls flat, complete with a go-nowhere premise, which makes "What A Girl Wants" a film worthy of staying far, far away from, thus spending your money on a far superior motion picture. Not recommended.

Review: If you like cute father meets daughter scenes and good old-fashioned romance, this movie is for you. This definitely is a love story.

Summary: Pleasant
Review: This was a cute little movie. Of course the plot is predictable, and most of the characters one-dimensional. But Amanda Bynes is charming as Daphne, the all-American teen who wants to find her father. And Colin Firth...! Of course he is wonderful, as always. The scene in which he tries on his old leather pants "to see if they still fit" is worth the price of admission alone.
