Review: Ah, this is part of my lovely guilty pleasure group of 80s/Brat Pack movies. A little John Hughes is wonderful sometimes and makes for a great movie night... On to the review:I really, really want to give this 5 stars, but can't bring myself to do it. The plot is just too off for me. The whole rich/poor thing is an odd premise, and he asks her to prom after one date? Plus, the predictability of it all is so sickening. And Duckie... my poor poor Duckie. The acting in this movie is great for the most part. The supporting cast especially. Jon Cryer and Annie Potts made this movie. And if only James Spader didnt look 30, I would say he was perfectly cast as well. Ringwald and McCarthy did alright with their parts, not great, but not badly either. I also thought this script lacked something other John Hughes movies seemed to have. It just didnt grasp me as much. Basically, this is a good movie to watch on a movie night with the girls.

Review: What can you say about those '80s movies featuring Molly Ringwald? They're cheesy, fun, dated, timeless, stupid, incisive . . . plus they feature Molly Ringwald, a little hottie with a beautiful mouth and red hair and a lean body. Oh my. Buy it just for the scence of her puting on her nylons. I did.

Summary: An embryonic Spader begins a Career playing nasty Wasps
Review: This teen movie from the 80's has not aged very well. The clothes look extremely awkward and the class warfare subject is lame. But it survives as a beginning for James Spader's career of exploring handsome, scary, obsessive men that he has carried further in films "Sex, lies and videotape" and the recent "Secretary". Molly Ringwald is pleasant and likeable as Andie, a working class girl with a flair for fashion design. She has nice chemistry with Andrew McCarthy, who plays a rich drip in love with her. Rounding out the cast is a shrill Jon Cryer and a fanstastic Annie Potts. Of course as in all Teen films, Andie is an independent teenager who has that special something that makes every man in the film attracted to her. Everything chugs along in a predictable pace until James Spader arrives on the scene. Spader plays trust fund baby Steff who has been smoldering over Andie since freshman year. If the producer's conventional casting had worked, this role would have been a one note baddie. But Spader imbues Steff with a seething, obsessional passion that gives him an emotional weight that makes him appear older than the rest of the cast. In fact it totally lopsides the whole picture in his direction. In one great scene, Spader discovers McCarthy dating Ringwald. The expression on Spader's face runs from shock, pain, disappointment, longing and then rage. He then spends the rest of the movie stalking Ringwald and trying to keep McCarthy away from her. It kind of makes a viewer wish there was more backstory added to the Steff-Andie relationship. Did she at one point like him? Is he just playing or is he serious about her? Couldn't John Hughes have added more tension with Andie being involved with Steff. It all points to lost opportunity. Ringwald gamely tries to add subtext with Spader but it just leaves her looking a little dumbfounded. Too bad "Virgin Suicides" was made 15 years too late. Spader would have made a great Trip Fontaine

Summary: Boring and Outdated!
Review: Pretty In Pink must have seemed like a really good idea written down on paper or it might have been okay when it was first released but to me it seems horribly dated like a lot of other movies from the 1980's, the movie had potential I guess but it's just so boring and outdated and even the good acting by Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy, James Spader and Jon Cryer could not make me want to see this movie again or add it to my video or DVD collection and the only thing I really enjoyed in the movie was the music and I can definitely picture buying the movie soundtrack but definitely not the movie.

Summary: The quintessential teen comedy...
Review: Pretty in Pink? ahhh, what can I say? Ms. Ringwald in that role of Andie was my greatest role model growing up in the 80's. In this role, she was sassy, an individualist, in a world that said the car you drive is more important. I never get tired of watching this movie...and I suspect it will live on, mainly for the plot...boy wants girl, girl wants another boy, boy ditches girl...girl falls back on the boy who dotes on her...but she can't commit...what a dilemma!
I also looked up to Annie Potts, what a brilliant role she played as Annie's friend, [X] co-worker, who drives her on to better, and bolder, ideas....she was/and is, a true gem of an actress..
watch it once, but better yet, watch it again@

Summary: Only fair
Review: I just saw this movie again after not having seen it for a long time. It wasn't half as annoying as it was when I saw it in the theatre. Molly Ringworm over the years has become far less irritating. The Annie Potts chick was far funnier than I remember. Annie Potts has really run the gamut from this, to "Designing Women," to being the white half of a biracial lesbian couple battling discrimination in the Deep South in "Any Day Now." Well, the soundtrack of this is great but the plot is awfully cliqued and hokey. Nice rich boy falls for poor girl with heart of gold, but each have hang-ups and friends who do not approve. Will this star-crossed duo make it despite all odds being against them? Take one guess, Sherlock. Also, what really bugs me about this flick is that Ringworm takes Annie Potts' fairly nice Prom dress and turns it into the most hideous creation I've ever seen. It was terrible! Not only was the homemade dress ugly, ugly, ugly, but it did not even show off the then-teen idol's smokin' bod. Three stars for the soundtrack and Miss Potts.

Summary: The Brat Pack DVD Collection is complete
Review: With the release of this film onto DVD, I finally have all of the 80's "Brat Pack" films. This is my favorite one of the genre, excepting only The Breakfast Club. We explore many facets of teen life in this film, from the rich/poor romance between Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy and the peer pressure from the various "cliques" which so controlled our high school lives, to parental issues and unrequited love. While the major players deliver solid performances, it's Jon Cryer and Annie Potts who really give this film an extra push as the kid with the crush on his best friend and the odd older friend who often acts as a surrogate mother to Andie. The depth of feeling in this movie brings the teenage years alive as the characters struggle to find out who they are and what they want out of live. While some of the performances and scenes are a little over the top emotionally, I am proud to put this title in my DVD collection.

Review: 5 stars for this CLASSIC '80s teen movie that pulls off something few teen movies can. It transcends the test of time. 0 stars for Paramount's DVD version of this movie. Like virtually all of Paramount's backtitles (just check out their release in September of "My Bloody Valentine," "The Tenant" or "Don't Look Now", they put NO SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS or EXTRAS on this DVD! What a monumental 'missing of the boat.' And what an insult to fans of this movie and DVD consumers! Clearly, Paramount doesn't have respect for its own backtitles, preferring instead to put extras mostly on new movies released on DVD. What a shame. "Pretty in Pink" is 16 years old. Let's see if, in another 16 years, anyone remembers the new movies that Paramount chooses to focus on.

Summary: "You missed my eye by an inch!" "HALF AN INCH!"
Review: So here's the long awaited "Pretty In Pink", finally on DVD! I really don't think I need to review the content of the movie- if you are reading this you have probably seen it! I'm thrilled that Paramount has finally put this out on DVD. But... and there is a BIG "but".... There are no extra goodies on this DVD. The original ending (Molly Ringwald ends up with Duckie) is not here. (Check it out: Andrew McCarthy looks COMPLETELY different in the last seen. His hair is longer, his skin is whiter, and he looks about 10 years older, even though the ending was filmed only several months after the principle shooting ended!) That is a total missed opportunity that legions of Molly Ringwald/Brat Pack/John Hughes/80's teen flick fans have been waiting to see for years! There's not even a theatrical trailer on this DVD! I can understand that deleted scenes, a theatrical trailer- these things can get lost in the vaults over the years. But you simply cannot tell me that they couldn't dig up the video for OMD's "If You Leave" to put on here! Some commentary would have been great as well! There are all sorts of things that the director could have discussed: OMD originally did a song for "Pretty In Pink" called "Goddess Of Love". When the ending of the movie changed, they recorded a new song ("If You Leave")... "Goddess Of Love" ended up going on their "Pacific Age" album. More trivia: Molly's favorite group at the time, The Rave-Up's, perform in the movie. (Their song wasn't on the soundtrack.) Molly carries a notebook in "Sixteen Candles" that has "The Rave-Up's" handwritten across it. Watch out for an early performance by Gina Gershon! She barely has any lines- I think she's in about two scenes. You won't miss those lips of hers. Also look for Dweezil Zappa (as "Simon"). Annie Potts practically steals the show in this pre-"Designing Women" performance. Not to be missed! All in all... this is a great DVD. It's nice to see it letterboxed. Paramount just missed a big opportunity by not going the extra mile by putting out something special for such a beloved 80's movie.

Review: This is a classic movie of the 80s and anyone who is a fan of the brat pack will love it! The downside to it is the acting, but then again, that's not expected of a typical 80s teen movie. Overall, it's entertaining and enjoyable!
