Review: This is my FAVORITE movie of all time. All the choreography and the songs together are perfectly timed to make this a delightful movie about the 50's and 60's era. If you do rent this video, be sure to rent the older one, I feel that the newer one has less spirited actors and singers, and also the plot is changed too much. I would recommend this to everyone!

Review: "Bye Bye Birdie" is an excellent movie. The kind I like to see. Elvis-like teen pop idol, swinging chicks, great soundtrack, Ed Sullivan, and a top all-star cast. Ann-Margret is just as lovely as ever. I enjoy movies from the '50s and '60s, and this is one of them. Just a feel-good picture. I know this sounds odd coming from a teenager, but "Bye Bye Birdie" is a lot better than the teen junk they're making now.

Summary: Okay, Well, It's MOSTLY Good...
Review: Okay, me, I'm more for the original broadway version of Bye Bye Birdie. I feel that this version with Dick Van Dyke and Janet Leigh is utterly wonderful, it really is, the acting is superb, the singing is pretty good also. It's very peppy all the same, but the story has WAY too much added. The story pretty much stays the same, but most of the original dialouge is cut out, and even some of the locations have been changed. You can get confused with the two versions that are out. (This one, and the 1995 made-for-TV-version.) I find that the 1995 version is much better, because it sticks to the original book. It's also much more believable in some areas.
But all for all, I do give this version of Bye Bye Birdie a lot of credit. I appreciate what the actors did, if you're looking for good acting, get this version. But if you are looking more toward the story being truthful, get the 1995 version.

Summary: It's CORNY, it's CHEESY.........it's GREAT!
Review: I have loved Bye Bye Birdie since my childhood. Yeah, yeah, I know it's corny, predictable, sappy and cheesy. But I think THAT is what makes it great. The tunes are catchy, the cast & acting is great and above all Ann-Margret is a dream to watch. Just seeing her in the "Got a lot of Living.." number gives me goosebumps! I love this film and can watch it over and over, they just don't make'em like they used to. Watching Dick van Dyke is a laugh riot. he could really give it his all. And Paul Lynde is a scream. If one knows anything about Elvis Presley and his impact on Rock-n-Roll and more importantly his major impact on young girls of the 50's-you can appreciate the near hysteria he caused. I always whip this musical out when I have guests, and they all love it. Some haven't seen it before and some haven't seen it in many years. This musical is a class act, buy it now!

Review: I was just in the play! It is a wonderfully funny play! I'm only 14, but I can appreciate a good play when I'm see one. ESPECIALLY when I'm involved in it! See the movie and even GET INVOLVED!!!!

Review: This movie is by far the best adaption of "Bye Bye Birdie" you will ever see! Nothing beats out Ann-Margret belting out the title song in the opening and closing credits! This movie will make you feel good all over. Guarenteed. :o)

Review: Here are the great parts: Dick Van Dyke in his excellent movie debut, Ann Margaret in HER debut which made her everyone's favorite teenage sex kitten (eat your heart out Britney), Paul Lynde in his best and funniest movie role, a sparkling score, one of the most energetic dance routines on film ("got a lot of livn' to do"), a light and fun script. The bad parts: a very unfunny and too long ending (the Ed Sullivan/ballet sequence), a dull dance routine with Janet Leigh in a fraternal lodge, Janet Leigh croaking through her numbers. I like this movie very much. I just fast forward through the dull parts. A charming bit of early sixties americana.

Review: This slapstick comedy is a must for all who enjoy 60's style of music. A cast of actors to portray the parts of middle America could not be improved. Imagine a movie being made today with the likes of Dick VanDyke, Ann Margret, Janet Leigh, and Paul Lynde to name a few. This "hokie" comedy returns us to a life- style that we today would all envy. Life is sweet in middle Ohio as Kim and Hugo are "going steady" until Kim wins a contest to be THE GIRL to send Rock Star Conrad Birdie off to the Army. "One Last Kiss" will be delivered on "The Ed Sullivan Show" in front of millions of viewers. Middle aged matrons swoon and require smelling salts as the comedy unfolds. My only disappointment is that in 40 years a remake has NOT been made of this classic.

Summary: Truly memorable, but not true to original script.
Review: In this Columbia Tristar version there are great performances by a number of people, from Dick Van Dyke to Ann Margaret to Janet Leigh to the wonderful Paul Lynde (as the father) to make this a lot of fun and though dated never seem to lose its magic. But you should know that this version is not true to the broadway script or songlist. For that amount of accuracy you are better off finding the Hallmark version with Jason Alexander in the Van Dyke role.
