Summary: AWESOME
Review: THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN, IT WARMS YOUR HEART, MAKES YOU HAPPY, MAKES YOU UNDERSTAND HOW KIDS FEEL ABOUT BEING GAY, I RECOMEND IT WIDELY!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Wonderful movie, but most American viewers won't see why
Review: If you are looking for a gay film with lots of erotic content, look elsewhere. This film centers on the emotions of its characters; lust is there, of course, but it is not the major theme.
Rather, we are treated to several intertwining stories that lead us to believe that maybe, just maybe, society is becoming more enlightened. I use that word specifically.
Coming from the UK, this film points out some major differences between American and British culture. Primarily, Britain is 30 years ahead of the US in terms of societal regard.
But enough of that............
The movie is good, with well developed main plot, several side plots that tie in AND do so without confusion.
I recommend this to anyone who wants to view a good movie about the pain of growing up, while gay, desiring the unachievable and getting it, and then ............well, much more would give it away; wouldn't it?

Summary: Rather disappointing
Review: I seem to be in the minority here--Most everyone else who reviewed this film absolutly loved it. I personally found the story...rather tedious. It is a classic example of a movie that should have been good but wasn't. I found the main character nearly impossible to like. I mean I sympathize with him to an extent in that he can't be with the person he loves, but that is no excuse to act like a little jerk to everyone. He spends the entire movie with a very put upon, the-world-hates-me-so-I-hate-the-world attitude and is generally very unpleasant to everyone in a ten block radius. When he's not having sex with strange men in public toilets that is. My overall recommendation about this film...don't waste your time.

Summary: One of my favorite films....
Review: This is a movie that almost anyone can identify with. It's about 2 high school boys who find they have strong feelings for each other. The movie shows how difficult it is when the truth remains buried, and how stressful things can be when we we pretend to be something we are not. The cast all portray their characters flawlessly. This is the most satisfying movie I have seen which deals with this subject matter. I wish it had been there for me at an earlier time in my life. This is essential viewing. It generates strength in the face of despair that is applicable in several aspects of life, not just dealing with fear or shame for coming out of the closet.

Summary: i love this movie!!!
Review: what a touching and thoroughly enjoyable way to spend two hours! i've wanted to see "get real" for the longest time, but it is not in stock at my local video store. finally, i was able to watch it on a satellite film channel.
i'm not one to exaggerate my liking for movies, so it means alot when i say that i LOVE "get real". i find the performances to be genuine and very effective. the relationships between characters are wonderfully portrayed and dialogue is outstanding. despite a serious subject matter, the film is never overly dramatic and has a great sense of humor to it.
i honestly can't say enough about this film. my only regret is not seeing it sooner.

Summary: Get Real
Review: i just wanted to say that this movie touched base with me in the fact that i know what the main char. is going through because i had to grow up in that fassion in my school. i had to deside to come out and how it felt to be in love with someone that you cannot have and that you have to feel guilty about loving whom you love and having sex... it is just a great movie!

Summary: From a straight woman
Review: I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!! I have watched my dvd about 20 times. I can't get enough of it. I only wish it would have ended differently. I watch a lot of movies that have gay themes and this one by far is my favorite. I also greatly enjoyed Bedrooms and Hallways, Lilies, and Trick to name a few. If are thinking about buying it, stop thinking and buy it today. You won't be disappointed. If I could have given it ten stars, I would have.

Summary: Teenage love, the heights and the pits
Review: I don't know exactly what I want to say about this film - except that I rented it, and was so impacted by it that I went out and bought it.
If you've read the other reviews, you know by now that Steven and John fall in love, but John (the stud athlete) is way afraid of declaring his gayness. He is probably more in love with Steven than Steven is with him, but he's even more in love with his future (Oxford, wife and kids, respectability, etc.). It really hurt to see how he could treat Steven in public - even kicking him in the stomach to impress his homophobic athlete friends - but then cry (when they're in private) about how much he loves Steven - more than he's ever loved anybody. What's so sad is that he really does. But respectability is more important.
One story line that I think should have been followed was that John's friends (possibly), and certainly his father, have figured out that he is gay by the end of the movie. Yet he is throwing away the love that is so important to him.
An excellent story of adolescent love and coming out. Steven's coming out speech is classic - "It's only love - what is everyone so afraid of?"
This movie effected me more deeply than any movie I can remember. Buy it.

Summary: The rare movie that gets it all right
Review: Growing up gay can be a harrowing experience; just ask anyone who is gay and they will tell you. The worst part is high school. In a time when one has to be popular and fit in the crowd, being gay can easily get you exiled, ridiculed, and in the world we now live in, unfortunately, worse. Steven (Ben Silverstone) is at that time in his life. Things get even more confusing when Steven hooks up with the most popular kid in the school- John Dixon. This track and soccer star is not sure about coming out, but "experiments" with steven. This leads to John shunning Steven in public, but romaticizing with him in private. Steven, however, wants more out of life and feels the need to come out to the world. Too bad for him that John does not feel the same way... This movie shows the relationship between two gay males, a senior (Dixon) and a junior (Steven) in a british prep school very realistically. The characters are wonderfully portrayed, and Silverstone does an INCREDIBLE job at making the audience believe what he is feeling. (especially in the tear-jerking last scenes) The good part about this movie is it appeals to both sexualities, not just gays. This is even a movie that gay teens can watch with their parents. (Mind you, there is one scene where you see a guys butt. No more, no less) This comedy is definitely worth every penny, and a fine addition to any video or DVD library.
