Rating: Summary: Hilarious! He is more normal than most of us! Review: 'Lifelong fan' obviously does not get Carlin's straightforward 'in your face' humor. Perhaps he should look to tamer comedians for his dose of funny. Sure, the airport security part is a bit dated and insensitive due to 9/11, but keep in mind this was recorded live BEFORE that heinous day. Otherwise, this DVD is downright hilarious! It is classic Carlin, with acerbic jabs at religion, our fear of germs, cigar smokers, businessmen, macho men, and other choice subject areas. His observation on religion alone makes this DVD worth owning. As I tend to agree with George, hearing him expound on his feelings vis a vis this subject area had me laughing hard and nodding my head in agreement. This is probably one of the better Carlin DVD's out now, and a MUST OWN if you are a fan of George.
Rating: Summary: "Disease Runs Rampant" Review: I grew up with Carlin; I can remember having my father run across the living room to turn off the 7 words you'd not see/hear on tv! I own several of his cds and have seen many of his HBO specials, all of which are phenominal! Show me something that he has done, aside from the drug phase, that he sucked at! Agghum, there isn't much of anything that comes to mind, right? As a testiment to how enduring and everlasting this cd is, I can tell you that has been circulated through several members of my large family; each has come back in tears, from laughing so hard, and wanting more. I am telling you, get this and "Complaints and Grievances" as well - "I don't have to tell you I am not home..." Get it and you'll see! This is TOP knotch comic lunacy and is right up there with my other fave comedians like Eddie Izzard, and John Leguizamo.
Rating: Summary: out of touch Review: It's not only the outdated subject matter of this DVD that proves Carlin's desperately out of touch (pre-Sept. 11 airport security, cigar smoking, angels), it's the hackneyed "angry-guy" delivery that truly kills it. Imagine Krusty the Clown driving around in a Canyonero swearing to himself and you've pretty much nailed it. Aficionados of comedy would be far better served with a Bill Hicks, Mitch Hedberg or Dave Attell album; there's nothing relevant to see or hear here.
Rating: Summary: I hope he hasn't lost it Review: Stumbled across this one in the video store. I had just bought tickets to see him live this spring and thought this would be a nice warm up. Was I ever surprised. He has always been a little ticked off but this was ridiculous. He seemed angry and crazy. I saw his act live several years ago and I laughed til I cried all night. Where was the creative genius I'd seen before?! This one was just plain sad, George, hope you're better in April. I paid alot for those tickets, so I'm bringing tomatoes just in case.
Rating: Summary: THIS WAS ONE OF CARLIN'S FUNNIEST SHOWS; 4.5 STARS Review: THIS WAS JUST TOO HILLARIOUS. THIS WAS ARGUABLY THE GREATEST STAND-UP SHOW SINCE RICHARD PRYOR-LIVE ON THE SUNSET STRIP! THIS SHOW IS VERY FUNNY AND I FEEL THAT ALL FANS OF GEORGE CARLIN SHOULD SEE THIS ONE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. HE MIGHT BE OLD, BUT AT LEAST HE AIN'T WASHED UP!!!
