Summary: Not as good as "Dress To Kill"
Review: "Circle" is OK, but I wish I rented it instead of buying it. Highly recommend "Dress To Kill".

Summary: Yet another Masterpiece
Review: First, let me say that the previous review by 'leahj10 from Beltsville, Maryland United States' was very funny. Apparently she is under the impression that the Circle Tour in 2000 was an EARLY Izzard tour and that D2K and Glorious came after that. Too funny, as most Izzard fans know that Circle was the most recent tour, as Glorious was in 1997, and Dressed to Kill 98/99, so in fact Circle was after those tours.

Also, I was fortunate enought to catch Eddie's 2003 Sexie tour in SF, and eagerly await the US DVD release for this tour.

Now, back to the DVD. While it is a bit more polished than the earlier releases, I believe this still warrants addition to all collections of comedy geniuses such as Sellers, Python and Carlin.

Summary: More than reviews led me to believe!!! Classic Izzard!
Review: Having seen most of Izzard's more recent releases (eg. Glorious, Dress To Kill) I was a little hesitant to purchase this DVD after reading earlier reviews. However, quickly becoming a die-hard Eddie Izzard fan, I simply had to bite the bullet and go for it...

I AM SOOOOOOO GLAD I DID!!

True, there are parts that hint at material used in his later acts, HOWEVER - it is only that, a HINT. He explores these ideas in areas that are completely different from Glorious and Dressed to Kill. So fear not that you will receive nothing but repeat material.

That laid to rest, I must say that the audience Does get much of what he says, and in true Izzard fashion - he comments on what "they are not going for..." and where "he lost them" in a way that serves to capture the humor and continue the energy/momentum of the act.

Delighted by his wit and intellectual humor (where very low brow things are described in a highbrow way & highbrow things are done so in a lowbrow way) Circle is a precursor to his later shows yet a success in it's own right.

I highly recommend this DVD, even AFTER seeing and owning Glorious and Dressed to Kill. Izzard is original all the time (he never writes out his act, but rather improvises on a roughly outlined idea). Thus, while some themes may be continuous throughout his different acts, there is always something different, unique, and oh so Eddie.

Summary: Not D2K, But Still Pretty Darn Good...
Review: I had to give Circle a total of four stars out of five simply because the behind-the-scenes footage was so great. Seeing Eddie drunk and breaking down into a fit of giggles was truly priceless.

The Circle performance itself was nowhere near the outrageous lunacy of D2K, but it still had glorious shining moments. As mentioned in previous reviews, The Deathstar Cantina and the monkey bits were some of the best.

If you are a hardcore Eddie fan, then you must own this DVD. If you are a beginner, start with Dress to Kill or Glorious, then watch Circle. Definite Article and Unrepeatable are also fabulous. As you can see, I am an Izzardite, so I know what I am talking about. Really, I do. Now shut up and go watch a video.

Summary: ¿Blasphemy, blass for you, blass for everyone in the room!¿
Review: This is a fantabulous DVD! First of all, the show is filled with hilarious jokes from mad cows to Lord Vader in the canteen and all sorts of fun religious bits and more NRA stuff, "Guns don't kill people, people do, and monkeys "if they have a gun!" Fun stuff! Also, there are several fun bonus features like the tour documentary, which shows Eddie having a giggle fit at the end. There is a commentary and a neat little trivia track that teaches us useless information like, "The Statue of Liberty's finger is 8 feet high". Good to know! And for anyone out there who has a crush on Eddie the intro will have your jaw on the floor as it shows short video clips of stocking-clad thighs and leather pants being pulled on!

I noticed that one of the reviewers on here gave one star to
Circle, saying that it didn't compare to Dress to Kill because Eddie bounces around and gets lost in his jokes. Dress to Kill was more than one show; they took the best of all the shows and made one perfect show. At the beginning of this show it says it was filmed on one particular day (June 20th or something like that). That makes it harder to have a perfect show. Also, part of Eddie's comedy is the fact that he is scattered brained. I even read an article where he says he's like that because he is dyslexic and therefore thinks laterally. His comedy is supposed to feel a bit like improv (and some of it is improv) and I thought he pulled it off great in Circle. That reviewer made it sound like Eddie didn't even know what he was saying, I didn't get that impression personally.

If you are a true Eddie fan there's no question you'll love this DVD too!

Summary: Awesome and the dog's bollocks, naturally.
Review: This may be the funniest Izzard yet. The Star Wars Canteen bit is already a classic ... I was in an Italian restaurant last week and when I saw they had penne alla arabiata on the menu I laughed aloud.

I love all the blasphemous bits and I looooved the sign-language monkey bit - "If you don't have a banaaaaner then I'm not talking to you."

Like Eddie Izzard's black and rather butch get-up, a very tight, slick piece of work. In fact if I had a criticism, I'd say it's almost too slick. For me, one of the highlights of an Izzard performance is when he talks about his personal experiences - especially his adventures as a transvestite - surely a topic that no other stand-up comedian covers, has covered, and probably will ever cover.

On the other hand, the DVD includes a documentary about the show tour, which includes an attempted interview with Eddie at a New York after-show party, but he's drunk ... and rambles semi-coherently until he cracks himself up so hard he almost implodes in helpless laughter. Priceless.
