Summary: A RARE GEM
Review: Sandra is a rare Gem. She is one funny Gal. Bright, Witty, and Refreshing. This is here at her best. I have seen her live many times. I'd travel far to see her but this is as close as you can get when she's not in town. Love You Sandra.

Summary: Bernhard: Still Here, Still Scathingly Funny
Review: The DVD of Ms. Bernhard's newest show is a hoot. I'd already heard the CD recording. First things first, I must say that I miss the hilarious opening number "Walk Tall" (great opening on the CD -- disappointing that it's not here, since I think it's very funny). Otherwise, the show is practically the same as the CD version, only shorter.

Sandra was incredibly pregnant during the filming, which is both shocking, bold, and comical all at once. She's decked out in a see-through designer dress -- her breasts, stomach, and thonged bottom on display. Very Sandra!

One editing mistake (in my humble opinion...) is the cutting of "A Diva Moment", which is included on the DVD under the Additional Footage option. For a show titled "I'm Still Here, Damn It", this rant would have been perfect to include. Sandra chastises the audience, reminds them that she's filming an HBO special, not a "tacky club gig", berates them for the cheap tickets they bought, then proceeds to explain how she's been performing the show for six months and working in the business for 20 years. It's a pure example of the hilarious-yet-true comic line that Ms. Bernhard walks. Why it was not included is beyond me!

For all the glib and shallow topics she includes, one gets the feeling that Sandra Bernhard (like a lot of us)looks to heal her soul. This woman starts the show with a "Native American Moment", talks about the Cabala, and sings a song called "God is Good" -- all whilst about to have a child at any minute! She may not be as fresh as her incredible show/film WITHOUT YOU I'M NOTHING, but Ms. Bernhard is not tired. I, for one, appreciate her unflinching take on pop culture. She plays the vapid, soul-less celebrity on stage...but only to give us all a look at our own shallowness.

Thanks, Sandra. You're still here! (damn it).

Summary: Very funny
Review: The very funny Sandra comes through in this cynical, dry performance peppered with musical numbers that don't always deliver (but the girl CAN sing).

I found the "extra footage" format a little annoying--they look like bloopers thrown in for good measure, but some of those bits are pretty hilarious ("Diva Moment" is particularly funny, where she blows a line, and then launches into an impromptu attack on her audience, hilariously slaying them for not laughing loud enough "in the back").

All in all, I wish she'd cut back on the singing and beef up the stand-up stuff, but overall still a very enjoyable performance.

Summary: Great Show
Review: This hugely popular one-woman show makes for great, funny entertainment, and the DVD picture is gorgeous. If only they'd re-edited the one-hour version, which appeared on HBO, to contain the 30 extra minutes; instead, the extra minutes are collected seperately as a bonus DVD feature. It's not as good a show as "Without You I'm Nothing" (the actual show, not the motion picture adaptation), but it's still wonderful. There's nobody like Sandy!

Summary: Where is 'Walk Tall' (the opening scene)?
Review: This is a great DVD, mostly hilarious and at times touching. However they have excluded the opening song called 'Walk Tall' which is kind of a monologue through song. It's great and shows just how talented and versatile Sandra is. The exclusion is unfortunate because it's the best part of the show. 'Walk Tall' is available on the CD and I recommend that everyone purchase that so you can hear this great opening. Otherwise, I highly recommend this DVD.

"I gotta walk tall, be strong"

Summary: Laugh out loud funny
Review: This is a really great DVD. Sandra is very funny throughout the whole thing! The show is about an hour long, but it's the cut scenes that are the funniest. She is quick and funny. She has a nice singing voice, although at times it's hard to tell if she's trying to sing or just trying to make fun of a certain style of singing. There were some great jokes here, about Courtney Love, Lilith Fair, modern technology, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Versace, and many others. The bonus cut scenes are funny, even funnier than the show. The Rosie O'Donnell joke is hilarious. The "Diva Moment" is also a higlight. She doesn't miss a beat. I hope she releases another DVD sometime soon, she's very funny and this is an enjoyable show that you'll enjoy watching again and again.
