Rating: Summary: (...) Review: (...)Now for my review: The "Doin' It Again" show is standard George Carlin, if you've seen "Playing With Your Head" or "Carlin at Carnegie", its more in that vein. "Jammin' In New York" is more influenced by Sam Kinison, and in fact, dedicated to him if I remember correctly. He shouts, he screams, and its all to add passion to the delivery, that he cares about what he's saying, but doesn't care about the effect of what he says, which is the mark of Carlin. Complain about it, but don't care if it gets fixed or not. "Jammin' In New York" is one of the best routines ever done. So quit bashing it and sit back and enjoy! However, let me also warn you that the packaging of this DVD is somewhat misleading. The middle picture on the right side of George performing is from "Carlin On Campus", as is the small picture of hime that appears to the left of his name at the top. "Carlin on Campus" IS NOT on this DVD. So if you are buying this because the picture reminds you of a special you've seen but you can't remember the name of it, well, sorry, you're still not going to get the one you're looking for. But at least now you know.
Rating: Summary: FUNNY AS HELL Review: ANY FAN WHO LIKES THERE COMEDY RANCHY WILL LOVE THIS...THE BEST COMEDIAN SINCE RICHARD PRYOR!
Rating: Summary: alas this is humor(ous) Review: besides some stabs at the othodoxy of habit or language as reflex (chief amongst the liberal) carlin meets the viewer at the lowest common denominator.
Rating: Summary: Excellent work - More politically balanced Review: By '93 - Carlin is much more openly angry in his rhetoric. Losing his overt liberal overtones from 70's and 80's. Skits included here are Desert Storm commentary, and a biting attack on White Liberal environmentalism. But his creativity is clearly on display here in a way that had been lacking before. Like many comedians, Carlin is best when he has some large issue in the public eye to discusss. Skewers darlings of the left and the right. But there is also a middle skit about small everyday occurences that bring people together. This adjoining routing tempers and balances the overt anger of the other two main skits, making the flow much more even and natural. Similar to his famous Driving skit (Carlin on Campus, What Am I Doing in new Jersey) Carlin here includes a wonderful skit on airplanes and airports that has gotten me through many an awful flight.
Rating: Summary: Misleading title Review: First of all, this is some of the best Carlin stuff. The only comment I have is that the title was misleading to me: one of the shows is called "Doin' it Again". Since this title is not on CD, I though that it was something I did not have. After receiving the DVD, it turned out that it was another name for the CD "Parental Advisory - Explicit Lyrics". Nevertheless, fantastic comedy...
Rating: Summary: Best stand-up comedy routine I've ever seen! Review: George Carlin is at his absolute best in this one. He plays on many things...but they all have relevance and make you think. He is hysterical; anyone that likes Eddie Murphy's comedy routines of yesteryear will love George Carlin
Rating: Summary: Great Performance by the Cynical Comedian! Review: George Carlin outdid himself with this one. No matter how many times I watch it or listen to it on audio tape (recorded from tv) I laugh hysterically. His part about the airports and other 'universal similarities' will ring a bell for everyone!
Rating: Summary: Carlin at his best Review: I have been searching for another Carlin video that is on the same level as this one, but I have yet to find it. I think that this is one of his greatest performances, he seems to be having fun on stage, and he just lets loose with his sarcasm and wit. I don't think anyone can be disappointed with this one.
Rating: Summary: George Carlin Rocks!!!!!! Review: I have had mp3s of George Carlin's routine, but that is only a shadow of what watching him do the same routines is. I could not stay in my chair I was laughing so hard. Also the movements of his hands and face add to the merriment a thousand fold, perhaps more. I would reccommend this double HBO special disc of his to anyone who has only listened to George thus far.
Rating: Summary: george's best Review: I have seen many pieces of george's work and this is the best one yet. his monologuein this one is by far his greatest
