Review: I loved this movie the very first time that I saw it. Based on a true story about women's baseball, Ms. Marshall did a fantastic job. What makes it even better is the the fact that I'm from Racine Wi. (Racine Bells). A very touching movie!!!

Review: I love this movie. I know it by heart, and yet I cry and laugh my way through it each time I watch it. Bravo to Tom Hanks, Gena Davis, Rosie O'Donnell and even Madonna - this movie is first rate! After seeing this for the first time, I went to the baseball hall of fame and was moved walking through the women in baseball section - See this movie, own it, and watch it over and over again!! You'll find something new each time!

Summary: A Family Favourite
Review: The first time I watched this movie, I sat down prepared to hate it. I don't like sport, especially baseball, and I'm not fan of Madonna (the actress). However, I sat through it, and boy I'm glad I did!! I love this movie!! I could watch it over and over (and I have). It's really good - Tom Hanks is so funny in it, and I loved Geena Davis as Dottie. Madonna was perfect for her part, and Rosie O'Donnell provided her with the perfect sidekick. From start to finish, this movie is packed with laughs - and some tears. It's a real girly movie, but my brother and other men I've known like it too. It was a must-have for the DVD collection in our household.

Review: This cheerful, funny comedy absolutely delighted me the first time I saw it, and I bought it soon afterwards. Based on the true story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was formed during World War II when many of the male baseball players went off to war, it features great performances from the entire cast, including Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, Lori Petty, and Garry Marshall. Penny Marshall's smooth direction and the screenplay by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel ("Laverne & Shirley") make the story come alive before your eyes. With every victory, you cheer; every heartbreak, you feel like sharing in the tears. An absolute delight, especially for anyone who loves baseball.

Summary: I loved the movie
Review: I thought this was a wonderful movie with a taste of history, a taste of sibling rivary, and a taste of Madonna in just about her true character. The scenes with Tom Hanks and Geena Davis as a player and her manager were heartfelt with an underlining respect that Hanks had for his star playing tinged with a little bit of love that he knew he had to stiffle. The kid that played one of the player's son, was absolutely terrific. He was the kid that everyone loved to hate. Despite the usual fun and games that was in the movie, there was one scene that drove home the horrors of the war that was going on around the members of the all star girl's teams. Jon Lovik was wonderful in his cameo role as the recruiter. An all star cast of supporting actors and actresses round out a true newer classic.

Summary: Women¿s Baseball: Truly A League of Their Own
Review: One of the greatest movies in American history portraying women's sports is A League of Their Own. While it never really caught the public's attention, the movie evoked both favorable and unfavorable reactions. The director, Penny Marshall, focused on material that dealt with women and women's issues which was considered long overdue. She gave the viewers a highly professional and extremely likable film about an incredible group of women athletes. The film was historically accurate in its portrayal of American culture in the 40's; it was enjoyable for all ages and sexes; and it had an infamous lead and supporting cast. Not only did Marshall capture the entertaining baseball sequences, she paid attention to the character-developing scenes. All these criteria made A League of Their Own a quality historical film.

Summary: "Girls playing baseball?" More than just a 'chick flick!'
Review: This has to be one of my favorite movies. No other movie makes me laugh, cry, remember certain lines, and basically make me feel good about myself. It's one of those movies that leaves you with such a smile you can't wait until you watch it again. That's the way I am, at least. You can't help but love Stillwell "Angel", whose mother pleads with her manager that "he's a really sweet boy. Everyone will love him" when he's far from the angel he's called. You can't help but love Marla Hooch, who shows looks aren't everything by her batting. And who doesn't love Kit, the tagalong kid sister who wants to break free from her Queen of Diamonds big sister Dottie? With great scenes, great quotes ("There's no crying in baseball!") and great characters, this is a movie to love. See it!

Summary: A League Of Their Own
Review: Finally! A baseball film that guys & grils will BOTH like! This could pass for a touching family film, a sport movie, or a hilarious comedy. Featuring memorable performances by Tom Hanks, Gina Davis, and Madonna this funny film has a little something for everyone. Gina plays an awesome hitter, and you have to see Madonna run! The film is especially funny when Stu ball angel" comes along. One of the funniest moments is when the girls are on a bus, and Stu is running around, and nearly kills them because he puts his hands on the drivers eyes. Madonna gets up, gets a bat, and says "I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to kill your son!" and chases him. A memorable baseball film that you'll love! The story centers on Dotti (Gina Davis) and Kit (Laura Petti) Henson. Both are sited by a scout, and are asked to join an all womans baseball league headed by a chocolate bar king (Gary Mashall). There, they meet Mae Mortibito "All the way Mae" (Madonna), Doris (Rosie O'Donnell), and the other Rockford Peaches. The girl are headed by a drunk manager named Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks). The girls go through several personal problems, but still manage to put up quite a fight on the field. But, trouble starts when "the chocolate bar king" threatens to shut down the league next season. Overall Grade: A+ (10+++)

Summary: Engaging, Seriocomic View of Baseball's Sleeper League
Review: I'm not entirely certain I would call this the best baseball film of them all, but it is one of the ten most entertaining baseball films, no questions asked. Hooking it on the first year of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League would have made it worth a watch if only to have even a small taste of an isolated but memorable element of the old ball game during the war era and a short time beyond. But casting Geena Davis and Lori Petty as the sisters around whom the tale revolves was inspired; casting Tom Hanks as the cynical manager was a masterstroke (we tend to forget Hanks's seriocomic virtuosity is as suited for support work as for lead roles); and, given that Penny Marshall is one of the least risky directors in Hollywood, there is an understatement to the film which a) makes it even more affecting, and b) overcomes even the blatant cliche of the championship climax. (Understatement, believe it or not, is also the word for Madonna's surprisingly effective subordinate role as the team party girl; someone should bring a bat down on her head and tell her her best film talent is as a deft supporting comic actress.) And, as a tribute to real young women who played real, full-out baseball in the AAGPBL for ten seasons, "A League of Their Own" is as respectfully unpushy as a film can be. Grab your beer and hot dog and enjoy.

Review: Geena Davis is brilliant in this movie. Trust me. Once you've seen it the first time, you'd want to put this one on again. Besides, I'm getting one of my sports pals this DVD (She hasn't seen this!) for Christmas. Hope she likes it!
