Summary: Very well written movie..........
Review: However, I did not like the DVD. I was disapointed at the lack of extras in the DVD version. It's just the movie with the wide screen cut. If you don't care about all the extras you could have seen, then pick it up it is better wide screen. I know because, I saw it in the theater and I bought the VHS version.

Summary: 5 Stars for Movie 3 for DVD
Review: This is a great movie starring Geena Davis and Tom Hanks. It is about women in baseball during WWII. The acting is superb but you know what is going to happen through the whole movie meaning it is predictable. This movie was released in 1992 and grossed 109 million dollars. The DVD is disappointing because it doesn't have many extras and doesn't include the Madonna video "This Use To Be My Playground". If you like this movie buy It and if you like Tom Hanks movies try Big(1988).

Summary: Grate cast ... formula movie.
Review: Yes everybody did it could job in this movie. However there was nothing exceptional about it. If the cast had been of any less caliber, this would be a forgettable movie. Both Tom Hanks and Geena Davis have made better movies. The only reason I gave this movie four stars is because it can stand on its own and should not be compared to these better movies.

Summary: My Favorite Movie
Review: I love this movie. It's set in world War 2, but it has just enough spice for any modern kid. It's all about baseball, but the jokes, adventures and tricks will keep even those who aren't sports' fans satisfied. This is a great movie for those who always struggle to keep up with a sibling. It tells the story of a young girl striving to be a better baseball player than her sporty beautiful older sister. Her sister is accepted into a new women's league and finally after a little pleading so is she. finally she has found her chance to shine. When you add an unwilling male coach to their unusual mix of a team, The Rockford Peaches you have a group sure to make you laugh. tom Hanks is amazing and as the movie progresses you will sypathize with both sisters. This is a truly funny movie with a great cast and a hilarious script. I reccomend it to anyone looking for a good movie.

Review: A league of their own is the firt movie that I have seen dealing with women in baseball. It is a movie for the whole famil, and has a little something for everyone. The casting was awsome! Madonna did a great job, and Geena Davis made you laugh and cry. I think this is Penny Marshall's best! There are so many good things to say about this powerful movie and I don't have the time to name them all. My family and I love this movie, and I highly recomend it for all viewers.

Summary: Brilliant!
Review: Its a true classic! I have watched this film probably about 10 times, I love it! The first time I watched it, I think I was 11. I was just struck by the brilliant performances, everyone was great... no, they were all fantasic. Its one of my all time favourite movies. It made me laugh, cry, cheer, and think. What more do you want in a movie? It is just so real, so understanding and so human. If you haven't watched this film, watch it and I am sure you'll love it forever.

Summary: Tom Hanks's Best Performance
Review: "A League of Their Own" recounts the formation of a women's baseball league during World War II by major league baseball owners. The league was intended as a diversion for baseball fans while the greater part of major league players had either enlisted for the war or been drafted.

The movie follows the exploits of one team in particular, the Rockford Peaches. The Peaches are managed by Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks), who is an ex-major leaguer who has boozed his way out of the game. Hanks's character is loosely based on real life Hall-of-Famer Jimmy Foxx.

Not only do we see the Peaches play; but, we also see how a few of them are recruited. The Peaches are a typical Hollywood assemblage of misfit pieces like the reluctant star catcher Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis), her unruly kid sister Kit Keller (Lori Petty), the sexy heartbreaker Mae Mordabito (Madonna), the mouthy bulldog Doris Murphy (Rosie O'Donnell), and the emotional wreck Evelyn Gardner (Bitty Schram). However, while the characters may really be caricatures, they manage to fit together quite nicely and no one member of the team takes over the screen.

One would expect some kind of a social statement to come out of a movie like this. If there is one, it is so subtle as not to be noticed. Perhaps the fact that no obvious statement is being made is a statement in and of itself. While "A League of Their Own" predated such professional women's sports leagues as the WNBA and the WUSA, contemporary audiences could be excused for wondering what all the fuss about a women's professional baseball league would be. Times have certainly changed since the 1940s.

On top of this, "A League of Their Own" is also very entertaining. Tom Hanks gives what is, in my opinion, his best performance to date. The "there's no crying in baseball" scene is one of the best and most memorable of any movie ever. It's one of those movie moments that can make you laugh just from thinking about it.

"A League of Their Own" is not the best baseball movie of all time. I would actually place it third.... However, the third best baseball movie is certainly better than most top movies of any other genre.

Summary: There's no crying in baseball!
Review: Not only is this a tremendously entertaining film, it's an empowering piece of women's history in sports. I bought it for my daughter because I think it's a must-see for all girls that play sports (of any variety). The obstacles that were overcome by these women in the 40s paved the way for later leagues such as the WNBA, WUSA, and WAFL.

But -- all that aside -- this is a funny, touching film. Penny Marshall doesn't exactly do subtle emotions, so have the Kleenex handy. I dare you not to cry during the war-department telegram scene. Everybody, even Madonna, seems just about perfect in her role. I only wish that there had been more included on the DVD, maybe some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that I usually skip on other DVDs -- it would have been interesting here.

Oh, look sharp during the "Meet the Peaches" scene, where the girls take the field for the first time to the hoots & derision of the crowd. You can see Rosie do a face plant just as she turns to run to third base. Don't know why they didn't reshoot the scene, but there it is :-)
