Review: A powerful book. A weak adaptation. The only similarity between the book and the movie is the color of the uniforms. Read the book. Pass on the movie--a real buster. This movie was disappointing to me because it centers more on the coach's experiences. The book centers more on the lives of the players and their experiences on the team.

Summary: Everybody deserves a second chance.
Review: This movie was so good and so touching. It showed me that everybody does deserve a second chance. At first Keanu Reeves was in really bad shape in the movie untill he saw this team that really turned him around. I think that this movie shows kids that you can do anything if you really try. The kids in this movie wanted to play baseball which they did at the beginning but then at the end they not only played baseball they also loved playing it.

Review: be warned, the ads for this movie do not do justice to this picture. The ads lend itself to a comedy, but the movie is much more serious. This is not a movie for kids under the age of 10, eventhough most of the actors may be in that same age range. I am fairly liberial, I cannot recommend this movie to anyone. There is little to no moral to the story. We have seen the same story line in other movies. This one is just worst.

Summary: "Hardball" was a very nice surprise!
Review: I don't know what I expected from "Hardball". I had heard some critics dismiss it as another rendition of the "bad news bears", but I was happily surprised by the movie's depth. Keanu Reeves played his character very well. His character was such that it could have been a challenge to blend the two aspects of his life that collide, but it was done with believable grace. The kids in this movie were fantastic too! I laughed and cried in this movie and throughly enjoyed it. Oh, and I loved the music too!

Review: WHEN I FIRST SAW THE TRAILER IN THE THEATER PEOPLE IN THE AUDIENCE WERE CRYING JUST FROM THE TRAILER. GREAT ACTING BY EVERYONE ESPECIALY THE KIDS. THE KIDS DID HAVE SOME PRETTY STRONG LANGUAGE, BUT THIS MOVIE WAS BASED ON A TRUE STORY. IT'S GREAT THAT THEY DIDN'T TAKE THE LANGUAGE OUT BECAUSE IT JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU HOW THEIR WAY OF LIFE IS. CHILDREN LIVING IN THESE CONDITIONS SEE AND HEAR THIS KIND OF VIOLENCE ON A DAILY BASIS. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS FILM - VERY TOUCHING MOVIE.

Summary: Healing American Story
Review: This is a great story which will make you feel good, especially after the WTC tragedy. I struggled over whether to go to a movie this weekend, just days after the WTC tragedy. This movie was a great respite from constant news of the tragedy. It is so all-American, telling of a flawed human presented with the challenge and opportunity to make a difference. He starts off coaching an inner city team of little leaguers for the wrong reasons, but finally sees the light. This is one example of how plugging in the usual formulas produces positive, predictable results. It just about perfectly fits the Joseph Campbell/ Chris Vogler Hero's Journey (see Writer's Journey) It does a beautiful job of taking Keanu Reeves' role through a character arc demonstrating personal growth. It has just enough sweet romance. It's a shame that this movie was scheduled to be released on a weekend when not many people are going to movies. But it is a movie that Americans could use seeing. We Americans are so like the main character-- flawed, often selfish, weak-- yet we as a nation, as a people, can pull together and do the right thing. That's the movie's message. Enjoy it. Bring your kid to see it. There is some foul language, but nothing my 11 year old hasn't heard on the playground. I must confess that as a Dad of two little leaguers, one who has coached for at least eight years, this movie really got to me, tears and all. But I am not a sports fanatic. I couldn't even tell you who won the last world series. I coached for my kids. The movie is one you'll enjoy even if you are not a sports fan.

BUT THEY COULD OF SHOWED AT LEAST 1 TIMES THE COACH TEACHING THEM, READING, OR PRACTICING. WOULDN'T RECOMMENED ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 15 THOUGH BAD LANGUAGE.

Summary: Best Baseball movie of the year!!!!!!!
Review: I went to a National theatre in Maumee, OH and they were playing a sneak peek on this movie. I thought it was just about 15 minute long preview but we saw the whole thing. It was the only movie that I have ever seen the whole audience give it a standing ovation. As I looked around the room at the end of the movie, not one of those people had a dry face. Even the grown men were crying!!!!!!!!! Anyway I highly recommend anyone to see this movie.

Summary: "Hardball" is no home run
Review: I recently saw an advanced screening of "Hardball" and walked out of the theatre with a mixed opinion. I liked some things about the film, but at the same time I disliked things about it. Before I get into my opinion, let me break the film down to you. The film is about a gambler (Keanu Reeves) who owes money to some lown sharks and when he doesn't have the money he goes to a friend for help. His friend gives him the opportunity to coach a little league team for $500 a week. He takes the job so he can pay the loan sharks back and coaches the team which is full of the worst mouthed little kids ever put on film. Really, these kids say some pretty awful things to one another and they are only supposed to be around nine years old. Then a bunch of things happen to move the story along but I will not give away anything else.
Now, back to my opinion. I liked the film in certain parts. There are a few scenes that are really touching and some will put a smile on your face. I did have some problems with it too. First, I can't get over the language that these kids, who are supposed to be nine in the film, use. Every other word out of their mouth is some kind of swear word and sometimes I couldn't even understand what the kids were saying to even know if they are swearing or not. Now personnaly, I think that the film could have been fine without these kids having to shout out swear word after another all the time, they are only little kids for crying out loud. Also, I felt the film was way too violent at parts, but for some scenes it is understandable why it is violent. Now in my opinion, the film could have recieved an R rating just for the language. Even though the film is PG-13, it is a heavy PG-13. So in conclusion, I can't really recommend this film, but I can't say that I disliked it either. It was just ok.
