Review: The story was fabulous! I laughed, I cried, I left the theatre satisfied.
I was very glad I hadn't read the reviews on this page!!!!!! The death of G baby, although expected in the scene, was not something I would have wanted to know going into the theatre. A tip for people writing reviews...they are for reviewing if the movie/acting/cinemetography were good....not for giving away the story and the exact happenings in the movie!!
Keanu's acting left a bit to be desired. He could convincingly nail the flirty scenes but when it came to the serious drama scenes (with the exception of the last scenes) he lack the convincing drive behind someone with thugs trying to kill him!

Review: i don't like baseball, but I loved the little league scenes in this movie. There was a heavy-handed use of the musical montage thing going on here, but it worked. Without the swearing, violence, and nauseating behavior of Keanu's character it would even be good for kids.

Review: 'Hardball' is the perfect movie. It has all the elements needed for a perfect film; a great story, great characters (and great acting), humor, emotion, heart, soul, and tragedy.... I love this movie. I was deeply moved and overwhelmed by the power of 'Hardball'.I love how 'Hardball' is a good movie not for the special effects, but for its story. 'Hardball' didn't need fancy film editing or costly special effects to be a great movie, it is the best movie of the year without all that. Keanu Reeves was amazing. He is such a versatile actor! He can go from 'The Matrix' to 'Sweet November' to 'Hardball'. Very impressive. The kids in this movie were fantastic, this movie wouldn't of been the same without them! The rest of the supporting cast was excellent as well. The music is great and the directing is amazing. 'Hardball' deserves many many Oscar nominations!

Summary: UPLIFTING AND HIGHLY ENTERTAINING
Review: This is a wonderful little film that EVERYONE in the whole family can enjoy and get a positive buzz from. It's very entertaining and very uplifting with the right dose of everything. KEANU REEVES (The Matrix, Speed) is very good as the hero and has a certain charisma that he normally lacks. Maybe he deserves more credit than he gets. DIANE LANE (The Perfect Storm, Judge Dredd) is wonderful (as always) as the teacher Ms Wilkes who helps him the get himself together. The kids are also great and very funny. A great film for everyone, even if you don't like sports movies. Highly recommended!

Summary: America Needs this Movie Now More than Ever
Review: No, this is not another re-make of the "Bad News Bears" and I sure am glad I went to see it. It centers around a down and out gambler who has no choice but to coach a bunch of underprivileged kids in an impoverished big city ghetto. The film really does not concentrate around one central plot point. Instead it draws you into a world where one grasps at some little straw just to make it through the day or survive the night. You may even be lucky enough to even enjoy one minute of that time as a respite. It was very uplifting and moving. I cried. I suppose it's not a great film but it comes at a time when we all have to pause and take stock in what America gives us a chance to achieve not just for ourselves but for everyone willing to pitch in or be part of a team. This film really exceeded my expectations. Go see it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Summary: Feel-good movie is what the doctor ordered!
Review: Only 10 days after September 11, "Hardball" was what I needed to feel better. Sure, the film has been panned for being a little "over the top" toward the end when "G" is killed in a drive-by shooting. Keanu Reeves did a credible job of portraying a down-and-out hard luck gambler who finds some inspiration in a ragtag bunch of kids from the hood. These kids find some hope in playing ball and doing pretty well at it. I cried toward the end. I was reminded that in spite of difficulties, some people are able to rise up to challenges. Go see it!
