Rating: Summary: I rented it twice Review: This is one of those movies that didn't get the attention or accolades it deserved. It is something different, its very funny, and has some wonderful characters and acting. Its one of those movies that leaves you with a good feeling when its over. I watched it about a month ago, then rented it again a week ago, and enjoyed it the second time. Definately worth a look.
Rating: Summary: Maybe It's Just Me.... Review: Am I the only one who was bothered by the way the script dismisses Colm Meaney's wife's unjustifiable infidelity as being unimportant? Otherwise a decent piece of entertainment.
Rating: Summary: This is a great movie for anyone Review: This movie is a great hockey movie and I love hockey. It has everything in it. Everyone should see this movie.
Rating: Summary: Mystery, Alaska Review: A "Northern Exposure"-like collection of small town characters flesh out this sweet story of small town Alaska with one main passion: Ice Hockey. Russell Crowe turns in an excellent performance as the aging Sheriff John Biebe, who is standing in the way of the next potential Saturday star on the ice. Filled with a wonderful ensemble cast of interesting characters, this films moves in a predictable direction with some pleasant surprises along the way. Burt Reynolds turns in a fine performance as the town judge. No great special effects, and not a whole lot of action but some marvelous performances in a pleasant tale. The film is not just for hockey fans but for anyone who enjoys a quiet study of some great characters.
Rating: Summary: What does the DVD really have? Not enough bonus materials Review: So, you know what the movie is like, so I won't review it. But, this is what you'll find in the DVD ed. of Mystery Alaska. Not enough bonus materials to be honest. A behind-the-scenes footage of about 4 minutes, the trailer and that's all. A real pity. I wish it had more stuff.
Rating: Summary: "Rocky" on ice Review: I'm a big hockey fan and I LOVE Russell Crowe; what more could I want? This movie definitely makes you want to root for the underdogs, hoping they'll pull through at the end.
Rating: Summary: Good characterization and acting in this little movie... Review: Why didn't the critics like this movie? I wonder if they just dismissed it as too insignificant, or something. It must have left the big screen when I blinked my eyes. Russell Crowe was born for the silver screen with wonderful, subtle characterizations of all his roles, but everyone is good in this film. The language and sex are not gratuitous, but enough to keep the film away from pre-teens, I guess. I do wish they'd kept that little kid quieter at times. The director should've known we could've lived without his last remark when being interviewed by the sports person, but watch him during the game at times... he redeems himself. Someone before mentioned the "newspaper" scene and Crowe's smile when seeing his wife through the windshield. I wonder if this is his work, or the director's work. I understand he wants to direct and if it's his work, he'll be wonderful. I'm thinking about buying this DVD...that's how good it is.....just to raise my spirits once in a while.
Rating: Summary: Unexpectedly great movie from a non-hockey fan Review: OK, an old plot, but I liked the new setting, and the characters. best Burt Reynolds role in a long time. Lots of new faces.
Rating: Summary: Simple fun Review: I liked the movie. It was fun to watch a movie that was simple entertainment....I like Russell Crowe and think his portrayal and acting was right on. I liked the whole town....simple fun, no brain surgery here, just sit back, relax and enjoy.....
Rating: Summary: This is a really entertaining movie Review: I'm a huge hockey fan, but that's not the only reason I love this movie. It's very entertaining, and there are several plots going on within the movie. It's very well written and well acted too.
