Summary: this self-respecting baseball fan...
Review: ...likes this movie. having grown up following some of the worst teams in the history of baseball...i can appreciate silly fantasy (of the indians winning anything)...which at the time it was. it's a slapstick comedy about a pathetic baseball team...not a realistic movie about the game of baseball. to compare this silly movie to bull durham simply because they both involve baseball is an insult to the intelligence of anyone reading the review. no, it's not realistic...nor does it star kevin costner...but fans of perpetually awful teams should be able to enjoy it...sophomoric or not.

Summary: "Major League" got me interested in professional baseball
Review: A very entertaining movie, worth seeing by baseball lovers and those indifferent to the sport. Prior to seeing this movie I couldn't have cared less about professional baseball. But seeing it ignited my interest to the point that I now go to both major and minor league games whenever possible.To relate the impact this movie has had on the sport, consider the following incident. I was attending a game and the local team retired their pitcher in the ninth inning. As the substitute walked to the mound, the announcers began playing "Wild Thing" (Joan Jett's version!) over the PA system. The crowd absolutely erupted in cheers and started singing along. Some baseball purists may decry this movie, but ignore them. You'll be very glad you did.

Summary: A must see comedy for all baseball fans
Review: A very funny and widely-encompassing look at the world of professional baseball. Although the charaters in the film are all fictitious, they do render a bonafide representation of the types of real-life personalities that are involved with the daily operations of a team. This film should prove to be very entertaining; even to fans from the Cleveland area.

Summary: Hey Coach I don't want to play Short Stop.
Review: A woman inherits the Cleveland Indians and wants to create a winner. Unfortunately the only winning that will be done is after she moves the team to Miami. Miami has reportedly offered her a new stadium with lots of seats, luxury boxes, and a nice home in Boca Raton. She hates Cleveland and is eager to move.
To that end she brings in an ex con with an amazing arm and horrid accuracy, a voodoo practicing hard ball hitter who can't hit anything else, a has been catcher, a stock broker, and a whole bench of second hand has-beens. A walk on, played by Wesley Snipes, has his bunk carried out the first day. "I've been cut already?" He proceeds to run, in pajama's and bare feet, past everyone, getting on the team. He'd introduced himself as "Willie Mays Hayes. Hit like Mays, run like Hays. He can't hit at all.
The team struggle through most of a miserable season, much to the happiness of the show-girl model owner. She keeps making things tougher on the team. She gives them a derelict plane, then an old bus. She refuses to buy new equipment.
Finally, part way through the season, the truth comes out. "Then there's only one thing left to do. Win the whole ******* thing." They go out on a streak and win the penant
Bob Eucker is rich as the announcer who makes phrases like "Just Bit Outside!" on a pitch that hit the backstop. He also makes disparaging remarks about pitchers. "He leads the league in nosehair"
Great movie with a great cast, Corbin Bernsen, Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, Rene Russo. It was also one of the first movies that Wesley Snipes stars in before he hit it big time.

Summary: FINALLY!! THE DVD IS HERE!!
Review: After years of complaining, Major League is finally getting it's DVD. This movie is a brilliant portrayal of baseball in the 1980's. All the characters in the movie are very realistic and seem to shadow actual baseball players. Don't let the 80's references get to you, or Charlie Sheen's haircut. Anybody who has not seen this, rent it, no buy it. NOW!! It is that good.

Review: As a baseball lover, I have loved this movie from the first time I saw it. It's the classic "cinderella story" of a worst-to-first team, with the twist that they were assembled because management thought that they would never be able to succeed. While the ending is pure feel-good 80's comedy, the journey is well worth the effort. Several scenes are absolute classic cinematic moments, and Bob Uecker's "just a bit outside..." will live forever in the lexicon of baseball junkies. Despite the light tone of the movie, the acting is good for a comedy, featuring younger versions of Renee Russo, Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Dennis Haysbert, and Wesley Snipes, just to name a few. I watch this movie every winter to remind me just what I love about baseball--that anything can happen. A joy to watch over and over again, although the special features are a bit weak on the DVD--all you get are a grainy trailer and some talent files. Then again, it seems that most of my 80's favorites get shortchanged when they go to DVD, so that's nothing new and different. I guess the studios are only interested in spending time and effort on new release blockbusters. Too bad, as this movie definitely deserves a Bull Durham-like re-release on DVD.

Review: Baseball Movie??? Ok, so maybe thats the sport involved, but this is a blatant sports comedy. I hate baseball with a passion, but this is by far my favorite sports movie ever....... period. This is a comedy that takes place in sports and not vice versa. Take the time to watch it and you will see why this is rapidly becoming one of the classics of our time. This one will not be reconstructed or duplicated. Ok, so I am not saying to watch it with your 8 year old son, but this may be one of the few "classics" that your 15 year old son will agree with you on. Take a chance and enjoy the show.
