Rating: Summary: I Agree-Why no special edition? Review: This film is great-see it and remind yourself what it used to be like to see good stories and characters. Why are these great pre-DVD films being released in the format without extras? For Breaking Away a screenwriter's commentary would be good. It would be great to see fun stuff from the 70's put on DVD with some extras. Burt Renold's "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Hooper" come to mind, with extras like how they did all the stunts and stuff.
Rating: Summary: Cool Movie...Awesome Score!!! Review: This movie touches a very common human aspect. The lives of the Cutters and the meaning behind their name, that is what makes this movie soo cool. The soundtrack to this movie is SPECTACULAR! I wish I could buy it! Together, this movie is 5 stars!
Rating: Summary: Great film but why no Special Edition? Review: This won an award for screenplay and we are getting a bare bones DVD. Sure I am happy to see one of my favorite movies on DVD but why no commentaries? Anyway, if you have not seen this film, rent it, buy it. Its wonderful. Its a great story about growing up and falling in love and about family and friendship. You'll have a wonderful feeling after viewing it. You dont get that when you see Hollywood movies these days which is ashame.
Rating: Summary: Excellent FIlm Review: Each character is unique and combines to form a healthy whole and stable story. The music of the film by Mendelssohn brings out the strange and delightful schemes of these individuals and not least of all, Dave's Italian fashion. A perfect sound, the Italian Symphony creates the atmosphere without allowing the story to muster its remorselful and regretful air. It keeps the mood fantastic which brings out the screenplay that deserved the oscar that it was rewarded.
Rating: Summary: the all american apple pie movie Review: It,s West Side Story on bikes. The haves keep knocking the have not,s,so to prove they are worthy they set out to win a bike race and show the college joe,s up. Well acted, moves well, decent story. Basic theme has been done many times in many ways, but this is one of the better efforts.
Rating: Summary: VHS transfer Review: Well, what can I say, I'm a biker and this is the first and best biker movie that captures the pain, pleasure, suffering, and elation of riding a bicycle. The transfer to video tape was good. The only improvement would be a widescreen DVD transfer someday.
Rating: Summary: I sure can identify with this movie... Review: I was born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI, and as a townie I could see how the frat boys and some other snobby college kids would look down their noses at us. My Dad kept trying to get me to see this movie over the years, ( on top of trying to get me to read Catcher in the Rye) and I kept rejecting it. I finally saw it in 1991, it just blew me away, it's like they were telling my life story. I've probably seen it 25 times by now, and I'll probably watch it again soon. I had my group of friends that I graduated high school with in the mid 70's, and we all had no idea what we were going to do, just that we would be doing it together. Since then, I've finished college, lost track with my old friends, just as you could tell Dave Stoller was going to do at the end of the movie. I'm sure a lot of people identified with this story, it looks like the screenwriter borrowed a little from "Rocky", but it doesn't keep this movie from being a true classic that should stand the test of time. "Every dog has his day."
Rating: Summary: Seeing the movie from both sides Review: I am one of the fortunate ones who have had the pleasure of viewing this movie many many times and also being there when it was filmed. I attended the university while they were filming this movie and had the opportunity to be an extra in a few shots. It still remains my favorite movie because of the well balanced characters and the pace of the story. I still cheer for the cutters to win every time I see the movie. A real gem.
Rating: Summary: A Great One !!!! Review: I saw this film for the first time when I was 5 years old (because of my father's love to bicycles) and have seen it 50 more times during the last 20 years. A must-see for All !
Rating: Summary: A true classic Review: I have to agree with the other reviewer. Studios release soooo much crap every week but where is this Wonderful Movie on DVD? I saw this when I was about 16 and along with Ordinary People around that time, it was one of the first movies about " people " that I just fell in love with. Theres allot of great dialoge in it and some great performance. Why Dennis Christophers career didnt sky rocket after this is beyond me. I even went to the small town in Indiana a few years ago to check out the school and town. Pretty cool thought the quarry is closed off because of too many visitors. A nice Directors Commentary would be nice and some behinds the scene footage and interviews would also be a treat. Hello? Anyone at the studio listening???
