Summary: If You Can't Beat 'Em...Steal 'Em!
Review: Celtic Pride is a good movie with a funny cast. This movie wasn't meant for Oscar recommendations so all the reviewers who think this is such a horrible movie need to lighten up. If you take this movie seriously, you probably won't like it, but if you watch it for what it is you'll enjoy it. Some parts are stupid, but Stern, Wayans, and Akroyd are funny together as the two die-hard fans kidnap the star player for the Utah Jazz. I bought the DVD for cheap so it was worth it. Other than the widescreen presentation of the movie, the DVD offers no extras. If you like basketball get this movie.

Summary: Worst comedy movie I've ever seen
Review: Celtic Pride is probably the worst comedy movie I've ever seen and one of the worst movies I've ever seen period. Basketball is my favorite sport, but not even the basketball in the movie was all that entertaining. Cameo appearances by a few NBA players including Larry Bird are just about the only things good about the movie. The reason I didn't like this movie is because some of my friends had told me that it was hilarious. I didn't think it was funny at all. All the jokes that Damon Wayans and the rest of the crew told were sickening rather than funny. The ones that weren't dirty and sick were just plain stupid.

If you like good comedy movies, I definitely don't recommend this movie at all. Save your money for some of the other good ones.

Summary: This is a very good movie!
Review: Dan Akroyd and Damon Wayans are the highlight of this movie. Daniel Stern plays his typical eccentric character. This movie is a very funny story of two fans going way too far to help their team, the Boston Celtics. This is one of Dan Akroyd's better films. I enjoyed it immensely and I would recommend it highly!

Summary: If You Can't Beat 'Em...Steal 'Em!
Review: Dan Akroyd, Daniel Stern, and Damon Waynes score big on this movie about two fans who take their love of the celtics to the extreme. Akroyd is plumber who has a sad strange life. Stern is an ex-high school player who had big dreams o ffame on the NBA court. He never made and he's a gym teacher. These two knuckleheads kidnap Lewis Scott(Waynes) who is the star player of the Utah Jazz who threaten the favored Celtics. This movie will keep you laughing from start to finish.

Summary: Funny, Enjoyable Basketball Flick
Review: Hmmm. I don't understand the negative reviews of this film. I thought it was funny and good entertainment. I give it three and one-half stars, especially if one loves sports.

The Utah Jazz meet the Boston Celtics in the final two games of a fictitious NBA championship series. Two Celtics fans who live and die with their beloved team are at the game, and get a bit more involved in the outcome of the series than most fans would, that's for sure. I laughed out loud a number of times watching this film, and that's how I judge a comedy.

I guess some of the reviewers who didn't like the film were disappointed that the film wasn't a documentary or something. Ya know, the basketball isn't real, guys! It's a movie, with actors and extras and probably semi-pro players doing the action scenes. (To be honest, the action was pretty good, in my opinion.)

The plot has been related a number of times below, so I'll just add a few observations.

Aykyrod (Jimmy Flahety) is as deadpan, goofy and funny as ever, on a par with his best. Stern (Mike O'Hara) is his equal in comedy. And Wayans (Lewis Scott) gets the superstar disdain for the fans just about perfect.

I really identified with the fan-tastical devotion to the Celtics since I'm a superstitious sports fan of the same ilk as Jimmy and Mike. They have great seats near the court, but switch seats depending upon when the game is played. If their team starts losing, they'll switch back to try to change the Celtic's luck. They'll ask their neighbors in the stands to do the same. Or even everybody in their section of seats. It's a mark of their devotion to the team. Oh, by the way, they have heckling down cold with some hilarious and dead-on insults so much so that they even rattle the Utah Jazz coach into almost rushing them in the stands.

Jimmy and Mike's efforts as 'sixth men' are, well, unconventional. And, as could be expected, the plan doesn't quite turn out they way they envisioned. It's light and funny throughout the film.

Recommended, especially for anyone who is more than a casual fan of the game.

Summary: "I LOVE THE CELTICS!!"
Review: In this sports comedy, Daniel Stern and Dan Aykroyd play Mike and Jimmy, two fans of the Boston Celtics, who are very, very loyal. So loyal that Mike has mood swings depending on the outcome of the game. When the Celtics are defeated in the sixth game of the NBA championships by the Utah Jazz and star player Lewis Scott (Damon Wayans), Mike and Jimbo hatch a plan to make sure Scott does not show up for game seven. They plan to get Scott so drunk, that, according to Mike, "he'll have hangovers for a week." They get the drunk part right, but not the rest. The two wake up the next day to find out that they brought Scott home with them, and hatch another plan: with a 1970's Olympic marksman's pistol, they plan to hold Scott hostage until after the game. However, Scott is much more clever than he looks.

This movie, panned on initial release, has become something of a cult gem. The two Dans have great chemistry with and without Wayans, and boast a strong supporting cast, including a pre-CSI Paul Guilfoyle as a cop\fellow Celtics fan. The DVD has great image and sound quality, but no extras. Nope, nothing. Not even a trailer (I should've known, I got this for [$$$]...). Sure, no extras, but the low price and movie itself warrant a purchase.
