Summary: A Horrible Mess or Underrated Gem? Trust me - it's a mess!
Review: Is this a decent movie that gets unfairly judged due to the popularity of the original? Not at all. If it were not a sequel, it would simply have faded away as an awful 80s slapstick comedy with a few easily amused fans. But since it is a sequel to the well-liked "Caddyshack", it goes down in history as one of the biggest let-downs Hollywood has ever turned out. Honestly, it plays like a childrens movie with a few adult jokes and some bad language (and of course a subplot involving a planned murder) - the story is cliche and predictable, the jokes are embarrassing and badly timed, there are cartoonish SOUND EFFECTS sprinkled throughout, and the final frames involve a gopher puppet hitting on a poodle. And of course you have Jackie Mason doing a Rodney Dangerfield impression through the whole thing and Dan Ackaroyd talking like his lungs are closing up (which is supposed to be funny?). Honestly, it's one of those movies where you can't believe most of this stuff got past scriptwriters, actors, crew members, editors, and studio executives without anyone being too repulsed to let it continue. Actually, Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield and Sam Kinnison passed on it because it seemed horrible to them - unfortunately the film studio didn't. A horrible sequel and awful movie in general - only for people who will laugh at anything labeled 'comedy'.

Summary: One of the worst movies in the history of mankind.
Review: It's quite possible that not reprising his role as Al Czervik was the most intelligent decision Rodney Dangerfield ever made (aside from marrying a hot chick 40 years his junior). This movie is to "funny" what hammered rhino-dung is to haute cuisine. I'm certain that, when actors, directors, and golfers go to hell, they are condemned to an eternity of watching Caddyshack 2 (while being fed hammered rhino-dung).

Summary: The Shack is Back on DVD.
Review: Jack Hartounian (Jackie Mason) is a self-made millionaire facing trouble from a historical society when he's about to tear down a rickety old building. His daughter Kate (Jessica Lundy) wants to be like the other rich people and join a country lcub, and Jack agrees only because he wants to make her happy. When he faces extreme predjudice from the snobbish members, the leader of whom is Chandler Young (Robert Stack), he fights back by buying the club and turning it into a mini golf course. While he gets help from the zen playboy Ty Webb (Chevy Chase) and homicidal lawyer Peter Blunt (Randy Quaid), Chandler gets help from bumbling surviellance expert Capt. Tom Everett (Dan Aykroyd). Who will win out? Plus, the gopher has a bigger role!

This sequel is considered to be the worst movie of all time. Save that honor for Manos, The Hands of Fate (1966), this is the sequel that blows other sequels (except for the Back to The Future Trilogy) out of the water. The major and secondary actors give wonderful performances, especially Randy Quaid, who must be seen to be believed. The writing is more family oriented, with the PG rating, but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. The direction is good. The disc is presented in full-frame with moderate grain, but overall is good. The audio is in Dolby 2.0 Surround, and is great sounding. There are no extras, knocking down a star. Where is the Special Edition?

Summary: Jackie Mason is great
Review: Jackie Mason is hilariuos as dumb founded Jack Cartoonian. Dan Aykroyd makes a funny appearance. Randy Quaid is awesome as Masons lawyer. 1941's Robert Stack makes a great role as the Bushwood Country Club owner. The only big thing that ruins this movie is the special appearance by Chevy Chase as The loony Ty Webb. Dyan Cannon is wonderful.

Summary: This Film Is Actually Funny! Crazy, Huh?
Review: Most people already have their minds made up on this one, and it is easy to see why. After all, Caddyshack is not a film that needed a sequel. Why would you need one? Well, the 80s was a great time for unecessary sequels. It's hard to top the cast from the first film; I mean, it was full of funny characters. This one tries for that and only succeeds to a limited degree. As much as you may hate this film, how can you not laugh your behind off at Chevy Chase? He's hilarious in this film. IN fact, his performance is reason enough to watch this film. Well, he is playing Ty Webb who was hilarious in the first film. How did they talk Chase into doing this film? My theory(and I could be wrong) is that Chase didn't need a paycheck so bad as much as he probably loved playing Ty Webb. Jackie Mason is no Rodney Dangerfield, not in a million years. His presence is okay, but he's just not that funny. Randy Quaid is a little over the top, but he has some pretty hilarious lines. The whole "putting with a wedgie" thing is great. And Dan Aykroyd. Oh Lord, poor Dan Aykroyd. He should leave Caddyshack 2 off his resume. He's trying to replace Bill Murray's chracter from the first film, but fails miserably. We all know Dan can be funny, but wow. He may say one or two fairly funny things, but that's the extent. The rest of the time you'll have to deal with his fingernails on a chalkboard voice. The voice would be okay if he were funny. These are the comedians of the film, everyone else is there just coz some nonfunny people were needed. Robert Stack(if you have any information call 1-800-876-5353) is always a good actor and plays a stiff snob convincingly, but it's surely an unsolved mystery why he chose to do this film. Jonathan Silverman isn't here for laughs, but I've always liked him either way, even though his role here is throwaway. All in all, the gags here are all hit and miss, but there are some pretty heavy hits I must say(like when Chevy Chase introduces Jackie Mason to some country club members in the men's locker room. I can't get too descriptive, but it's hilarious). If you put it up against the first film, well then you're doomed because Caddyshack this is not. There are worse ways to spend your time......like the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre for instance.

Summary: A sequel that still generates at least SOME interest....
Review: One of the most interesting things is that this 1988 film is highly touted as an "in-name only" sequel. There's nothing wrong with that except this: The return of Chevy Chase as Ty Webb. This connects the viewer to this character (from the original Caddyshack in 1980,) and makes fans thinking or wanting Caddyshack II to be similar to the first one.

There are rumors that Rodney Dangerfield was supposed to return. Too bad he didn't. He carried a big part of the first film, so his return would have put Caddyshack 2 over the top. Jackie Mason is the "new" Rodney for part II and does a decent job, even though their comic deliveries are way different. Dan Aykroyd was great but not in the film enough. He should have been involved to the tune of how much screen time Bill Murray got in the first one. Robert Stack (Airplane!) was good in the "new" Ted Knight/Villian role. (We miss you, Ted Knight. Thanks for the laughs.)
Danny Noonan should have been back. So many others could have returned to show us what happened to their characters eight years later. Bushwood should not have undergone the total makeover it did. Instead, the characters involved should have been the main focus like they were in the first one.

When you watch this film, keep the mindset that it isn't a true sequel and you may think it's another good or bad eighties comedy. Fans of the first should see it but don't be shocked when the comparisons between the original and Part II are so far apart.
