Rating: Summary: Gotta Give It Credit. Review: I began watching "Dumb & Dumberer" thinking oh no,here is a stupid wannabe comedy that's not funny.I was wrong. Now this film will never match up to the first it is funny in its own right, period.Eric Christian Olsen as Lloyd Christmas (previously played by Jim Carrey) and Derek Richardson as Harry Dunne (originally played by Jeff Daniels) isn't as bad as people are saying it is.Some jokes will fail to please people unless their ten years old, however there are scenes that are utterly hilarious.Including a scene with Bob Saget. Before seeing this film,I had no respect for Mr.Saget, but after seeing this scene it is hard not to laugh at Americas Funniest Home Videos.Anyway the film follows Harry & Lloyd when they first meet and they reveal the mysterious reason for Lloyds chipped tooth. Now besides the way they discuss stuff after Harry throws Lloyds tooth,Harrys imaginary friend Captain Rob just doesn't pan out. There are things that aren't funny in this movie but turn out to be and some stuff turns out to be just well dumb.I believe the point of the screenwriters script was to make a dumb movie with some faint comedy, the movie however funny doesn't pan out to match the original but it is definently worth renting.
Rating: Summary: Laughed my head off!! Review: I loved this movie! People get down on this movie because jim carrey isnt in it, but I thought Eric Christian Olsen was great in 'Not another teen movie' and he is even more hilarious in this! Both actors do excellent justice to the orignal harry and lloyd. Besides 'Old School' this is the funniest movie ive seen this year.
Rating: Summary: Should never have happened... Review: I try to find the good in movies, but I had a hard time with this one. I knew even renting it was going to be a form of cruel punishment, yet I followed through. Dumb and Dumber was a great movie that any intelligent and/or idiot would laugh out loud at. Truthfully, it is one of my favorite movies and I have to watch it every time it comes on cable. But was there a premise for another one? Was it necessary to show them as teenagers? I feel that this movie could have led somewhere if given more time for creative thought. However, I think this truly missed the mark of what it was trying to accomplish. I laughed at one block of scenes...where Bob Saget stared as the angry dad looking at a messed up bathroom. But other than that, I remained as enthused as a fly on the wall. If you want to watch a comedy when you have nothing better to do, then I say rent it...DONT BUY IT! This is the type of movie you watch once, get through it, and then pledge to yourself never to watch it again. You have been warned.
Rating: Summary: Desperate try for cheap laughs Review: Dumb and Dumberer: Comedy. Starring Eric Christian Olsen and Derek Richardson. Directed by Troy Miller. (PG-13. 88 minutes.)"Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd" sounded like a bad idea, and the movie removes all doubt. Inspired by the very funny 1994 hit "Dumb and Dumber, " the film contains nothing that made the original a success -- namely its stars, Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey, and the filmmakers, the Farrelly brothers. But it does give us the back story on how Harry met Lloyd because, well, everybody's interested, right? To call this effort misguided would be kind. The job this "prequel" does on the original "Dumb and Dumber" is the movie equivalent of surgery that removes all the vital organs and then gives the patient a prosthetic third arm. What's needed isn't there, and what's here we don't need. Even the the title is off. "Dumb and Dumberer" is hard to say and not exactly funny, while the subtitle is intended (for some reason) to evoke "When Harry Met Sally," but it sounds more like a tribute to the silent comedian Harold Lloyd. Why not "When Buster Met Keaton?" or "When Charlie Met Chaplin?" The movie leaves two young actors twisting in the wind, imitating people funnier than themselves, while working off a script that Carrey and Daniels couldn't have squeezed laughs from. Two young idiots, who will some day blossom into glorious imbecility, meet on the way to high school when they collide into each other on the street. Lloyd (Eric Christian Olsen in the Carrey role) takes Harry (Derek Richardson in the Daniels role) under his wing and shows him the ropes at school. Within minutes, the class bully has hung both of them from the top of the school's flagpole. The bit is no funnier to watch than it is to read about. In moving the Carrey and Daniels character into adolescence, "Dumb and Dumberer" keeps Lloyd's personality intact but loses the weariness that Daniels brought to the role of Harry -- the weariness, that is, of going through life, year after year, without a clue. It's what made Daniels funnier than Carrey in the original, but in the new film that aspect of Harry's personality is gone, and Richardson is left to play him as a wide-eyed innocent. For those keeping score, Lloyd was dumber in the first movie, while this time Harry is dumberer. Eugene Levy plays the embezzling high school principal, who is given plot- pushing lines such as "I think I figured out how to bilk this school out of enough money for that condo in Waikiki." Levy's scenes with his partner crime, the school lunch lady (Cheri Oteri), have comic energy, enough so that were the sound off one might suspect that fun stuff is happening, but it's not. It's just Levy and Oteri holding up their end, making sure they're not the worst thing in the picture. It's hard to say what's the worst thing -- Olsen and Richardson, perhaps, in a dead heat -- but they're also the movie's biggest victims. Richardson at least gets to be bland. Olsen has the misery of imitating Carrey's physical shtick, the walk, the talk, the goofy takes. And while anyone can be funny imitating Jerry Lewis, there's nothing less funny in the entire world than someone imitating Carrey. It's even worse than someone imitating Steve Martin singing "King Tut," which, happily, no one does anymore, though the nightmares will never fade. At less than 90 minutes, "Dumb and Dumberer" still feels stretched, with back-to-back musical interludes, halfway in, that seem like a desperate attempt to string things out. In one musical moment, Lloyd dances to Vanilla Ice's 1990 hit, "Ice, Ice Baby," even though the movie is set in 1986. That's how dumb he is, dancing to music that hasn't even been recorded yet. .
Rating: Summary: Review for Dumb And Dumberer Review: Dumb and Dumberer is so excruciatingly awful, the word dumb could sue for slander. That doesn't mean that there aren't funny bits or that the actors don't work hard -- only that making sport of other people's stupidity turns out to be pretty tricky. At 82 minutes it feels longer than Lawrence Of Arabia -- and a lot less funny. The eager zeal of Olsen and Richardson, directed with nada style by Troy Miller, induces compulsive squirming. While Dumb and Dumber possessed a bracing, genuine vulgarity, this new film is more often merely digusting. I would recommend not seeing this.
Rating: Summary: DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!! Review: I can't begin to describe how terrible this movie is. The acting stinks, the jokes stink, and they spend the whole time just exploiting the funny scenes from Dumb and Dumber in a juvenile and unintelligent fashion. Definitely in agreement with most that this is one of the, if not the, worst movies I've ever seen.
Rating: Summary: what a Joke! Review: This is by far the worst movie I have ever seen. the first one is great and this second one is the biggest waste of film ever!!! I have no Idea how a movie company would read the script for this and then actually FUND IT!! Like I read in an earlier review, everyone involved should be fired! Don't waste your time, you will find your DVD screen saver that pops up on your TV more interesting.
Rating: Summary: WHAT IS THIS Review: This was absolutely the worst movie I have ever seen. It is a disgrace to the first one which is hilarious. I urge you to please save your money and buy the first one. This movie should be erased from cinema and the director and producers should be fired. The laughs were funny if you are 4. In part one it was smart comedy. I bet the Farrely brothers are embarresed. 110% horrible
Rating: Summary: Bummer and Bummerer Review: This high-caliber stinker is bound to go down in the history of movie-making as one of the worst movies of the century. The storyline is random, the laughs are tired, and the ending is utterly predictable. The cast really tried to squeeze something funny or even watchable out of the paper-thin script but to no avail. It had "turkey" written all over it from the first few scenes but I unfortunately persevered to the end. This movie stinks so much that it leaves you with a bad aftertaste. You almost feel angry you've spent time and money on it.
Rating: Summary: Was Better Than I Expected Review: I admittedly liked the first film very much. I expected the sequel to be horrendous. But suprise, it actually stands on its own. The DVD includes a ton of extras! I upgraded my rating to 3 stars because of the great extras. There are "eggs" hidden everywhere. If you don't know what an egg is, it is an egg you can click on to see extra footage or material, and is usually hidden in the menu. There are so many extras it is hard to watch them all in one sitting. I especially found it interesting how they cast the lead roles, watching the actors audition, and the screen tests were great..the deleted scenes should have been left in the film. Most interesting was the alternate opening credits, which was wonderfully done, yet somehow replaced with the stupid opening scene and boring title credit that was used instead. I admired the film much more after watching the ton of extras on the DVD. All DVDs should have extras like this one...
