Rating: Summary: Nothing new or special here... Review: Rat Race is a film whose parts are stronger than the whole. Some of the characters are extremely funny like Rowan Atkinson and John Cleese. Others aren't so funny (Cuba Gooding, Seth Green, Brecken Meyer). In fact, the funniest parts of Rat Race are also the shortest. Picture Mr. Bean and Newman from Seinfeld wading through a field looking for an organ donors heart or John Cleese with ridiculously large buck-teeth playing a billionaire who loves to bet on anything, and I MEAN ANYTHING! Jerry Zucker's direction is adequate but having produced such immortal films as Airplane! and The Naked Gun, I expected a little more from this comedy legend. Rat Race is not a new concept (see Cannonball Run) but Zucker and this talented cast had the opportunity to re-invent the money chase film for the new millenium, unfortunately they dropped the ball. Recommended for cable viewing only.
Rating: Summary: The most hilarious film of 2001! Review: RAT RACE is definitely a movie you've gotta see. It's so hilariously funny you'll be rolling around on the floor laughing by the end. RAT RACE is about a billionaire who gets like, ten very different people together who are willing to do anything to earn 2 million dollars. He challenges them to race--dividing them up into different teams. The first team to reach the locker which holds the $2 million wins. But it isn't easy; the teams have to go through hilarious and difficult obsticles to get to the locker, and all the while the billionaire bets some other millionaires on who will win the race. He gives the teams keys to open the locker...but the keys have tracking devices on them which helps the billionaire find out where they are.RAT RACE has an allstar cast including John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson, Seth Green, Whoopi Goldberg, Amy Smart, Breckin Myer, and more! To me, the movie is sort of like a spoof of reality TV shows like "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race". I'm not really sure if that's what the movie was aiming at, but in anyway, it's very hilarious. RAT RACE is a film your entire family, plus all your friends, co-workers, and classmates will all love! So basically, it's a movie for everybody. It's very much worth your time and money. The acting is superb, and the storyline/plot are solid. The comedy is excellent! Seth Green and Breckin Myer are the best in this one. The DVD for RAT RACE is highly recommended for anyone in search of an excellent, smart, non-gross comedy!
Rating: Summary: Laugh Race!!! Review: This movie is GREAT!!! If you are looking for a sofisticated, mature, that make-you-think comedy, look somewhere else, this is a stupid comedy like Dumb and Dummer or Road Trip, easy plot with hundreds of jokes. The DVD ist Great with Deleted Scenes and other goodies like outtakes and gags.
Rating: Summary: Funniest movie of all time Review: When i saw this in the theatre, I could not stop laughing - and I think the packed audience was with me on this one. I have never heard an audience laugh that loud, or that hard. I'm sure there were some sides splitting there. You had to watch your step when you walked out cuz people were crying from laughing so hard, you might have slipped on the wet floor. Even this old lady in front of me was laughing hysterically at the antics on screen. Who would have thought that this hilarious comedy would crack up people of all ages? To tell you the truth, it's no real surprise. My sides ache just thinking about the WW2 Veteran Hall scene. My boyfriend and I were completely in stitches the whole time. It's completely mindless humor, just put your brain to bed, and let the hilarity run wild. I just can't stress enough that this movie was just THAT funny!! Let's put it this way: hilarious! ... Laughed on the way out of the movie theatre! Just a big ol' laugh riot! My sides hurt! ...I can't think of any more ways to convince you to see this funny, funny movie!! Just buy the movie and be prepared to laugh insanely at it.
Rating: Summary: Best Comedy There Is Review: This is the funniest film ever made and thats that!!
Rating: Summary: I'll take what I can get... Review: Rat Race is an amusing film from one of the best comedy minds of our time. Jerry Zucker directed this movie and he is part of the team that created great movies such as Airplane, Naked Gun, Top Secret, Hot Shots, and Brain Donors. Rat Race doesn't rank with those movies because it is not in the same genre. Rat Race is just a good old fashioned comedy that doesn't try and come up with the grossest, sickest, nastiest jokes that so many comedies now days think are funny. Rat Race does show that with good, intelligent writing, you can come up with funny scenes without playing to the lowest common denomitor of sleaze. I wish Zucker would go back to making Airplane and Naked Gun style movies to show the public how truly horrible movies like Scary Movie and Not Another Teen Movie are.
Rating: Summary: Rat Race Good Film, DVD OK Review: The DVD contains normal features (scene selections, widescreen, animated menus, deleted scenes, etc.) but lacks some other important ones. It contains an anamorphic widescreen presentation of 2.35:1 (although the film was orginally 2.40:1), 6 deleted scenes, a gag reel, a 5 minute outtake scene, interview with the director & screenplay writer, JERRY AND ANDY CALL THE ACTORS, a pretty pointless audio feature, and a theatrical trailer, however it lacks the important AUDIO COMMENTARY and DVD-ROM features. It would be totally worth it if it had a commentary & possibly a screenplay viewer on DVD-ROM. The DVD also lacks any multi-language subtitles or language tracks whatsoever. Rent it before buying.
Rating: Summary: DISAPPOINTING Review: We rented "Rat Race" and watched it today. At the start of the movie where establishing information is taking place we found it entertaining. Further into the movie the plot seemed to plummet. One scene after the other failed to appear funny to us. More like distressing. Yet, we like "Kingpin" and "Wrongfully Accused", "Spy Hard" so we were expecting to like "Rat Race" -- too much of the humor and plot derived from material such as WWII and animals and transplants just wasn't funny to us. The ending was entertaining to an extent. We thought we couldn't go wrong with the great cast of "Rat Race" and unfortunately we were disappointed to discover it just wasn't grade A comedy. Sorry, but the rental expenditure was more than enough for this particular movie.
Rating: Summary: Excellent movie, terrible ending Review: Rat Race is, without doubt, a hilarious film. It uses both slapstick and intelligent humor to elicit laughs, as well as the great Python John Cleese in the cast. Acting is very good, given that I hadn't even seen several of the actors in any other movies previously. So why not 5 stars? Terrible ending. I'm not sure if this is because of my dislike towards the particular band at the end, but I felt like the ending could have been so much better. Why anyone would want to enlist the "help" of this particular band, other than to get teen viewers, is beyond me. And it's not just that - the end was hardly a culminating moment for this film. Too bad, because otherwise, this is a five-star film.
Rating: Summary: Non-Stop Funny Review: Though the commercials make this movie look stupid, it is defiantly not. An all-star comedy cast brings laughs from start to finish when a casino tycoon(John Cleese) gives six money crazed teams the chance to win 2 million dollars in a race from Las Vegas, Nevada to Silver City, New Mexico. Who will win this dash for the cash is anybodys guess, but one thing is for sure-It's going to be an hilarious ride. Here are the teams: Italian narcoleptic Enrico (Rowan Atkinson AKA Mr. Bean).Though at some points his italian accent becomes annoying, his acting is funny enough for you to ignore it. His modes of transportation are a train, and an organ doner truck driver(Wayne Knight) Newly aquainted Mother and daughtor team Vera and Merill Baker(Oscar winner Whoopie Goldberg and Lanai Chapman). They work magic together, their scenes are funny, and so are they.Their modes of transportation are a sports car, a rocket car, and a bus. Owen Templeton(Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr.) is a football referee who is recognized everywhere because he made the wrong call on a coin toss!!! Cuba Gooding jr. is no doubt the highlight of this movie. His modes of transportation are a taxi cab, with mad football fan cab driver Gus(Paul Rodriguez), a bus filled with Lucielle Ball impersonaters, and a horse. The cody brothers, Blaine and Duane (Seth Green, and Vince Vieluf).Their scenes are very funny. Vince Vieluf's character is histerical because he bought a home tounge piercing kit. He pinches a nerve in his tounge, and now has a speech impetiment. Their modes of transportation are a convertible, and a hot air baloon. The Pear family, led by Randy and Bev(Jon Lovits, and Kathy Najimy). Hands down, the funniest scene in this movie is the scene with the Pear family at the world war two veterans reunion. Their modes of transportation are a van, Adolf Hitler's Meredes Benz, and a truck. The final team is Nick Schaeffer and Tracy Faucet(Brecken Meyer and Amy Smart). In my opinion, these are the worst scenes in the movie. They are not bad scenes, they just dont live up to the standard of the others. Their modes of transportation are a helicopter, and a pick up truck. Along the way, they meet some interesting characters. Merill and Vera baker meet an insane squirrel lady(Oscar winner Kathy Bates) who gives them some bad directions. Blaine and Duane cody meet a girl who has lots of piercings(Silas Weir Mitchell). Owen Templeton meets many Lucy Ball impersonaters including Charlottte Zucker. "Rat Race" is not going to win any awards, but it is a fun time. If you have nothing to do, invite some friends over, order a pizza, and rent "Rat Race". "Rat Race" is rated PG-13 for Sexual Referances, Crude Humor, Partial Nudity, and Language. The nudity is not that bad, so dont worry about the tounger kids. If you have a DVD player, i strongly suggest that you watch the special features. They include english subtitles, interactive menus, scene selections, the theatrical trailer, an interview with Director Jerry Zucker and writer Andy Breckman, 7 deleted scenes, half hour special:The Making of Rat Race, Gag reel, outtake scene, and a new feature "Jerry Zucker and Andy Breckman call the actors" "Rat Race" is a great movie, go see it!!!!
