Summary: Stupid, unfunny ...
Review: Last night I watched "Rat Race" - one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life.

In the video store I picked up this movie on DVD, noted the stellar cast and good reviews on the cover and thought that it could be worth watching. I could not have been more wrong. Sometimes when you watch a movie you're disappointed because your expectations are too high, or because you're just not in the right mood to appreciate that sort of film. Those excuses don't apply here though, because I was in the mood for a lighthearted comedy, and my only expectation was that it should be funny.

This movie should never have been released. It's the most unfunny [movie] I've ever seen, and an incredible waste of a talented cast; John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson and Whoopi Goldberg just to mention three actors that probably wake up every night in a cold sweat wishing they'd never agreed to be in this ...

The plot, such as it is, is this: A wealthy Las Vegas casino owner (played by John Cleese) comes up with a scheme to entertain his high-rollers. He places six special tokens in his slot machines, then gathers the six winners together in one room and tells them he's sending them on a race to recover $2 million dollars which is stored in a locker in the train station of some remote little town. The only rule, he tells them, is that there are no rules. The first person there wins the money. It's actually a decent premise for a movie like this, along the same lines as "Cannonball Run".

Unfortunately, the script feels like it was put together by a bunch of 10 year old boys locked in a room and fed red cordial and speed until they went spastic. I certainly don't mind unusual, absurd or unrealistic situations in a comedy, but that's not the problem here. The problem is that the director has relied on slapstick and visual gags, and has telegraphed the punchline of almost every single joke. It was so predictable and banal in its stupidity that I was literally uttering the characters next lines in advance during some parts of the movie.

There were a few funny moments. Cleese's character and his high-rolling gamblers will bet on anything, and the setups for their wagers were generally funny. There were one or two other gags that I laughed at, but so often a funny moment was spoilt by dragging it out far too long, or setting it up so transparently that you were over it by the time it arrived.

I wanted to turn it off, but I was hoping desperately that it would improve. Instead it got steadily worse as the film progressed, until it all culminated in the most sickly sweet and preachy ending I've seen in years. I think it says a lot that I laughed more during the two minute blooper reel on the DVD than during the movie.

Do yourself a favour and skip this movie, or recommend it to your worst enemies.

Summary: You will laugh until you die!
Review: I went to Rat Race as soon as it came out because from the minute I saw the trailer I knew it would be a hoot! There are some great jokes coming the the mouths of Whoopi Goldberg and Rowan Atkinson. There are some great appearences too from Kathy Najimy, Jon Lovitz and Kathy Bates. This film is a must see!

Summary: A fun farce w/slapstick humor, but an awfully corny ending
Review: Inspired by the classic 1963 film, It's a "Mad Mad Mad Mad World", the Zucker Bros. of "Airplane" fame update and modernize the classic slapstick quest/chase flick. Unfortunately, "update and modernize" means more body fluid humor and grade-school gags, but if you remember to suspend reality and look at all of the characters as outrageous stereotypes, the movie can be quite funny at times. There are only a handful or truly sidesplitting scenes, and most of them involve Jon Lovitz and his family's hijinks driving around the desert in the car of an infamous dictator.

What disappointed me the most was the horribly formulaic ending that just smacked of Hollywood commercialism and catchy product placement. It was so totally cheesy and cornball, it almost ruined the mean-spiritedness and greedy behavior of the characters throughout the film.

This movie is probably best-suited for high schoolers, but the ones I've talked to who saw this film also loved the sight gags and slapstick comedy but disliked the cookie-cutter ending.

Summary: Make sure you go pee first before watching it.
Review: This movie mad me laugh and laugh. It wasn't much for a cast, but it was great.

How far will we go in our greed? Well watch this and you'll find out.

We have a casino owner and his million dollar friends betting on out of 6 random teams whom will win a million dollars 500 miles away stuffed in a locker. First one there gets it. Oh what [stuff]they pull.

It was a great movie, you must try it. When I bought it, it was lent out from the first 2 months. Everybody I knew had it at some point in time. Only one out of 25 poeple said it was stupid. And well, not really stupid. But if you think about it, what would you do. I highly recommend this for a funny night at home.

Summary: 5-STAR MOVIES that include racing for $2 million
Review: I went to my cousin's house in San Ramon, CA and saw this funny movie with a great cast that i will say in alphabetical order: Rowan Atkinson, Lanei Chapman, John Cleese, Whoppi Goldberg, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Seth Green, Jon Lovitz, Breckin Meyer, Amy Samrrt, and Vince Vieluf. I also liked the part where Vince Vieluf (that pierced his body) was in love with a girl who had a pierced body. You know, you should make Enrico Pollini (Atkinson), win the money, because on the commercial they gave him 1 of 100. Why I wrote this is because I give this *****(5 out of 5).

Summary: Like a stale Oreo...
Review: ...I wish that I could have kept the center and thrown the rest out. The opening credits are among the most annoying I've ever viewed. Thirty minutes into the movie, I was sufficiently amused and was able to block out my memory of that traumatic experience. Cuba Gooding Jr. musta moonlighted as a mime (except that he's funny). Rowan Atkinson breezes through the material like an old pro, and Amy Smart is a jarringly effective in this comedy despite the handicap of being an attractive white female.
The movie ricochets from skit to skit-you WILL play favorites. Half the gags flunk out of Farce School, and the ending goes straight to P.U. Waiting out this [stuff] to get to the funny stuff left me with a tension headache. Certain actors could have edited out of the film and actually improved upon it.
The soundtrack features the Baha Men and Smashmouth. No comment.
If you do rent or purchase this DVD, give me a ring. I'll be your guide. A highlights compilation would produce a highly-concentrated maniacal buzz. A grand 4-episode sitcom in the vein of "Monty Python" but, all at once, it's tiring.

Summary: Lots of Laughs!!!!
Review: I can not remember the last time my husband and I laughed this much. You will laugh from begining to end.
This would make a wonderful video to watch with a group of friends.
The comedic cast is just great together.
You won't go wrong with this video.

Summary: Edge of your seat....right to the finish!
Review: "Rat Race." How can this comedy be described??? To me, "Rat Race" is basically a modern-day version of "The Canonball Run" movies. Both have great laughs, a great concept, and best of all, a superstar cast. The cast here is great, but in terms of star power does fall short a tad. Maybe it's because I'm not as big a Whoppi fan as others, but the movie is still very worthy of 5 stars. The concept is simple: a race across part of the country for a chance to get a load of cash, in this case, $2 million dollars. Each racer seems to encounter their share of trouble from museum visits, crooked mechanics, jealous girlfriends, disguises, and even farm animals. Jon Lovitz, Seth Green and John Cleese all shine, as well as the classic Rowan Atkinston. There are a great deal of gags and jokes throughout the movie, so there is a good chance you'll bust a gut due to laughing so hard. In the end, things turn out rather interesting and end rather well. The DVD itself is a nice purchase too. You have the widescreen version, which I have always been a fan of. As well, the supplementary info is a nice treat. The gag real, behind the scenes feature and the "Call the Actors" segments are great additions. To me though, I get a good laugh out of the deleted scenes. These are always a nice thing to have with movies. In terms of "Rat Race," they do not disappoint at all. You can't help but love the cow. :-) All in all "Rat Race" is a movie that almost anybody can enjoy. If you love laughing, watch it. If you love chaos, watch it. And most all, if you love zany fun and a simple good time with top-notch acting, race to the video store to....watch it!

Summary: Rat Race-a must see!
Review: In a year of so-so films this comedy was a comet in a smog filled sky. This film should have been a HIT! What a cast! What a story! It all works. The best thing about this DVD are the cut scenes and bloopers. The best cut scene involves the cow....just see it and laugh!

Summary: Very Funny and Entertaining
Review: You won't be able to stop laughing after you see this movie. This DVD has many speacial features like delted scenes and such. This movie has an all-star cast like Rowan Atkinson(Mr. Bean), John Cleese, Whoopi Goldberg(Sister Act), Cuba Gooding Jr.(Men Of Honor), Seth Green, Jon Lovitz(High School High), Breckin Meyer(Road Trip), Amy Smart(Road Trip). As you can see this cast is very experienced and absolutely hilarious. I would recomend this movie to everyone. Parents watch this movie first as there are partial nudity and crude humour.
