Rating: Summary: The best slapstick performance since Charlie Chaplin! Review: Ace Ventura is a landmark film for Jim. Having been involved in earlier films such as Earth Girls are Easy, Rubber Face and Once Bitten, this is the first time we see Jim really excel infront of the camera. On a personel level I find this film to be a true legendary performance, entertaining from start to finish. However, Jim is an aquired taste and not everyone will be amused with the childish antics. If you do gravitate to fun and wild films though, this is a film for you. Classic Carrey!
Rating: Summary: Appallingly bad Review: It amazes me how so many viewers can find the antics of a man behaving like a spazstick so hilarious.Jim Carrey's character in this movie is so irritating and stupid you want to smack him.The story is pathetic, the acting makes you feel sick, and there is not a clearly defineable ''joke'' in the whole movie. In my opinion, this sort of movie should only appeal to a maximum age limit of 2 year old children, and anyone else who laughs at it should seriously grow up.Carrey's future hits,Dumb And Dumber and The Mask, have only worked on their premises, definetely not on this ''comics''individual comedic talent. For comedians with far superior laugh inducing abilities, may I recommend the likes of Leslie Nielsen and Robin Williams. Please avoid this unbearable film and it's wretched sequel.
Rating: Summary: Funny Review: This was a great movie for Jim Carrey's break through film. He is very funny in this movie. There is some well time humor in this movie. I suggest this movie to anyone who likes movies. one of the better comedies of the 1990's.
Rating: Summary: Alrighty then! Very Funny! Review: This movie was Jim Carrey at his best. Very Funny, LOVED IT!
Rating: Summary: Very funny but a little too weird Review: Or perhaps I should say a little too weird but very funny. I saw this movie just after returning to The U.S. I had been living overseas for a decade and was out of touch with American entertainment. Ace Ventura was my introduction to the humor of Jim Carrey. What a shock!!I rented this film and watched it at home. It made me laugh so hard I literally fell off my chair two or three times. But some of the scenes were a little too disturbing for me - like when he burned his clothes or when all the cops were in the warehouse.
Rating: Summary: His funniest to date Review: This is the quintessential Jim Carey movie. If you only liked him in his more serious roles such as The Truman Show or Man on The Moon, I'm sure you'll disagree. But, if you're looking for his classic In Living Color antics, look no further. There seems to be some footage missing though. I recall a scene, which shows him in a bar on his way to Ray Finkel's house, which isn't shown on the DVD version. Can anyone help me out with this?
Rating: Summary: jim carrey's second worst Review: his worst was the sequel. the humor was not funny, but just crude. thank goodness he chose better roles as he grew up. he was far better in liar liar and now in the grinch.
Rating: Summary: Funny, Funny Review: What took me so long to buy this DVD? At first this movie may seem stupid, but then it grows on you. You probably know about the movie so I'll tell you about the DVD. The transfer is acceptable, I can't understand why its not widescreen but i really doubt it would matter, you miss almost nothing off the sides. The sound is just 2.0 surround and is decent too. There is a commentary on the movie I haven't heard and there is "special added footage." Don't get too excited, its about 15 seconds long and if you never saw it in the theater, you aren't missing anything. Also includes the trailer. If you like the movie, don't pass this DVD by.
Rating: Summary: Best actor in the world.....Jim Carrey? Maybe not Review: But he is up there as the funniest on the planet. I laughed so hard during this movie that my body hurt. I really don't think that I care about the detailed acting skills. Although his job was to act funny and I believe that he did just that. If people don't laugh at all they should stay away from any of Carrey's movies. And now that I think about it.... from Liar Liar and the Truman Show and Man on the Moon.... I think he is one of the better actors out there. I really don't think that there is anyone else out there that could even come close to playing Andy Kaufman. Back to Ace though. I have seen this 10+ times and still laugh almost as hard. I would also like a letterbox DVD, but I don't think it would be any funnier.
Rating: Summary: JIM CARREY, BAD ACTOR Review: This is about the only movie of Jim Carrey's that I found even the slightest bit funny. The scene where the theme from Crying Game starts to play was brilliant, but only because the Crying Game movie left a strong impression. Why this made so much money I'll never know.
