Rating: Summary: One of the best comedies ever done Review: This is one of these movies you shouldn't trust critics' opinions. It's one of the best comedies ever done, and contrary to most of new silly ones, this movie will make you laugh on the floor every time you see it. It's classic humor, performed by excellent actors. Tom Hanks was at his best ever, I've never seen this guy so funny before or after this movie, he's a consumate genius. His reactions to the otherwise tragical situation are astonishing and show how well he understood the character. For me, Tom Hanks performance in this movie is a reference of how a part like this should be acted. I hope the producers publish a DVD version. I'm sure there are more unedited material that will be great to include. These actors sure had big laughs during the production, and would be great if this material is available to share it with us. I applaud the actors, directors and producers of this masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Screwball comedy, 80's style Review: Totally wacky 80's flick, starring Tom Hanks and Shelley Long. This, and Bringing Up Baby, are the two films I turn to when I need a serious pick-me-up. It's nice to know that no "bad" day can ever be as bad as theirs! All sorts of bizarre, hilarious things happen when Hanks and Long decide to bite the bullet and join the ranks of homeowners. Too bad their house begins falling apart the moment they buy it. Key moments: the staircase the black hole in the study the contractors the kitchen It's rather dated, as all 80's things are, but well worth a look. In this slapsticky version of Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, Hanks plays one of his trademark roles - the bewildered man fruitlessly trying to make sense of his mad, mad world. It's laugh-out-loud funny no matter how many times you see it.
Rating: Summary: The good old days Review: Ah the 80's. Back when John Candy was alive and Tom Hanks did a string of comedies before he became all 'serious'. This is a great movie about a couple who buys an old 'fixer-upper' for a house and get in way, way over their heads. Everything needs to be redone (wiring, plumbing, etc.) and everything constantly falls apart. Shelley Long is her usual cute self. I have to admit I've had a real soft spot for her ever since Cheers. So if you want an evening to remember your favorite decade, or a family night with the kids, 'The Money Pit' is right on the money.
Rating: Summary: Needs to be released on DVD!! Review: I always come back to this movie after a few years of not having seen it, and it's fresh and funny every time! One of my all time favorite comedies, if you like the old slapstick stuff from the 30's, you should like this. What the heck happened to Tom Hanks? He used to be a hysterical comedy actor, as this movie showcases. He's become Mr. Serious, and frankly, pretty boring. I prefer him in these light comedy roles. Ah, the joys of homeownership, in this case involving everything from trees that fall at the touch of a finger, to bathtubs that fall through the floor (all time classic film moment!), to electrically challenged kitchen appliances (I recently saw a TV commercial that spoofed this scene!), not to mention racoons in the dumbwaiter, holes in the floor that trap you for hours and overall chaos. Delightful and enduringly funny!
Rating: Summary: Classic, Classic Tom Hanks Review: My wife and I have seen this movie MANY times and we laugh harder each time we see it. This movie must be a cult classic, mainly because if we act out a piece of a scene or speak a line from it (as we often do) many people are 'in' on the joke having seen it repeatedly themselves. Alexander Gudenov really steals the scenes that he's in portraying Shelly Long's ex-husband/Symphony conductor. I love it when he admonishes the orchestra at lunchtime after a lackluster rehearsal and tells the members to '...go stuff yourselves, I hope you choke!' (in that wonderful accent). I highly reccommend this film to anyone, especially if you own a house. Those laughing the loudest will have had home repair experience I'm sure. Tom Hanks at his funniest. You won't be dissapointed! Favorite moments: bathtub scene (with pop-up thermometer in the turkey) raccoon scene The Shirk brothers contractors All of the Alexander Gudenov scenes 'The Cheap Girls' band borrowing money from 'Benny' Hanks and Long fighting in front of the contractors .....the list goes on......
Rating: Summary: Sigh sigh Review: When I watched this movie for the very first time, I was 18 yold. It was and it is one of the most loved movies I ever seen in my whole life and it meant so much to me because I felt like Tom Hanks when I was rising up my new house and I seen myself in that movie with all the hard time to make the house of my and her dream nice and cozy. We did it but I miss those times. Thanks "The money pit". Luca
Rating: Summary: One of my all-time favorites! Review: Who wouldn't want to see Tom Hanks stuck in a hole in the floor? This movie is hilarious right from the start - Shelley Long and Hanks play off each other well. Well worth a few bucks to have your own copy at home!
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: The dialogue and the timing are fantastic in this movie. Full of funny moments, sweet little scenes between the two leads, and hilarious lines that will injure your laughing muscles. A must-see.
Rating: Summary: DVD Missing Scene Review: One of my favorite movies. Very funny. I just bought it on DVD and was surprised to find one of the scenes "falling trees" was cut out! I expected it would be the same version I had seen many times before.
Rating: Summary: Timeless Treasure Review: An 80's spin on slapstick this movie takes the viewers on a rollercoaster ride of laughs with two hapless homeowners trying to live the American dream with little success. This is another one of those movies that has been and will continue to be a favorite for years to come. Sit back and enjoy.
