Summary: One of best comedy ever
Review: I think Pink Panther must be one of the best movie I have ever seen. From it is music to acting it should in the best 100 movie list ever. Especially Peter Sellers is excellent. I should say that he is acting (the dum) so naturally that even when he is standing and looking around he is funny. I have not seen many actors that can be so natural and superb. I should say that David Niven and Claudia Cardinale are superb too. I think eveybody who is interested or not about the movies should watch Pink Panther, at least once in their lifes. Because it is such a classic that not many movies can be as amazing as it. Thank you for eveyone who had worked in making it. And ofcourse thank you Peter Sellers.

Summary: More than just slapstick; Sellers classic
Review: Having not seen the movie in twelve years, when I started watching it earlier tonight I was expecting non-stop slapstick and silly chases. In fact, the movie is somewhat deliberately paced and occasionally a bit slow (the scene with Niven, the Princess, and the tiger rug, for example -- 20 minutes go by with no sign of Clouseau). But, for me, the real pleasure of this film comes from watching Sellers. His performance here isn't quite as nuanced as in some of his other movies (Strangelove, Lolita), but is still fantastic. A sentence in the little booklet that comes with the DVD says: "Sellers believed...he must play the bungling inspector with stiff dignity, no matter what the cost." This belief paid off. No matter how many times Clouseau/Sellers trips over or breaks something, he is instantly back on his feet and plowing ahead -- Sellers' acting is at its best in the moment just after a slip-and-fall. It is in these quick seconds that you see how brilliant a comic actor he was.

As far as the DVD goes, it's great to see the picturesque film in its original aspect ratio (looks like 2.35). There are some scratches on the film, but I wouldn't consider it a defect of the DVD itself. Every now and then, there is a bit of static floating in the (aural) background.

Summary: A wonderful movie spoilt by poor DVD encoding
Review: The movie is wonderful, one of the all-time classic comedies. The DVD is disappointing. Although the picture is as sharp and clear as can be expected for a film of this vintage, there are visible film scratches in many places. The soundtrack has noticable analog hiss also. The worst part, though, is that on my player the DVD suffers from the infamous "raindrop" artifacts usually associated with DIVX. Only one every few minutes, but I still found it annoying. Definitely a movie which could use restoration and a better DVD release. Please don't let that put you off watching the movie, though...

Summary: A good thing to get going
Review: These "Pink Panther" movies are always entertaining, though this one seems a little slow-paced in comparison with the raucous sequels it inspired years later. Niven and Sellers are well cast, and our introduction to Clouseau ("we must find that woman!" followed by his leaning on a globe and falling to the floor) is a laugh riot. Welcome also is the Mancini music.

Summary: The Pink Panther Is Good Clean Fun!
Review: A delightful comedy film with the world's most clumsy police detective "Inspector Clouseau" sent to a ski resort to protect the worlds most valuable diamond from the mysterious thief the "Phantom." Unaware his own wife is in cahoots with the crook! Very entertaining comic story with a hilarious finish at a costume ball. An instant classic.

Summary: The Original Pink Panther
Review: The first Pink Panther film is the most original of the series. Pre-Cato and married to one of the criminals involved, Clouseau is still a bumbler, but more understated. The slapstick gives way to a humor built more on character than situations. David Niven is excellent as The Phantom and a very young Robert Wagner is very good as his ner do well nephew.

Set in Rome and in Cortina, this film is full of 1960's atmosphere. My favorite Panther.

Summary: Very funny, Peter Sellers is great, a must see once!
Review: This movie was great. I love all the Peter Sellers movies. If you like slapstick comedy, you'll die laughing after this one. Between funny sceens gets boring though. Inspector Clouseau has yet another Pink Panther mystery ahead of him. His trusty man-servent Kato has pre-planned fights between the two which are just plain hillarious. Definitely a comical movie.

Summary: deliciously funny
Review: "Pink Panther" is as good as the next "A Shot in the Dark". Both are examples of how to make excellent comedies, with a sound story, a creatively hilarious and smart screenplay, a good set of characters, and a unique style of filming that elevates "slapstick comedy" to the highest level of sophistication. There are so many quotable lines that are well worth to write them down as you watch the movie. The interchange between the Princess and David Niven from their first meeting has not only humor but also wit and "serious" commentaries that can be easily overlooked if one is not paying a special attention to these scenes. The soundtrack song "Meglio Stasera(It had better be tonight)" is delicious and perfectly defines the mood of the film. Fran Jeffries, who sings it to a crowd gathered in a fireplace, is as delightful as the scene itself. Claudia Cardinale and Capucine are gorgeous and show style and charm in their roles. Please note the title sequences because they are as funny as the movie itself. The 60's represents , in my opinion, the highest point in fashion and general pop culture which truly reflects the highest level of sophistication and taste in a world that was gradually losing its innocence and cynicism was taking hold; in this context, this movie is one of the movies that best represent the 60's. I agree with the other reviewer that this movie should figure in the 100 best movies of any list. This DVD is great with a good quality of picture; check the trailer because it has a hysterically comical and very original mix with animation, which is not the case of modern movie trailers. I only wish there were a special DVD edition with Director Blake Edwards' commentary, and of others responsible of this movie, on a separate audio track.
