Summary: Quirky but unappealing...and overrated
Review: Larry David was a moving force behind Seinfeld, and often, in so many bits, you can see his touch, his creativity, many of the things that had us rolling in the aisles while watching Seinfeld. But to me CURB is a major disappointment and an overrated show. Why?

First, while David's creativity is intact, he himself is awful. His delivery is awful. His acting is ... awful. So many times, I can see the bits being performed by Jason Alexander (George on Seinfeld) and I start laughing. But David is soporific. He needed the Seinfeld cast as much as they needed him.

Second, the pacing of the show is awful. It has an improv feel and supposedly a lot of it is improv. Folks--I'm sorry. But the assumption that actors excel at improv is ludicrous. They don't. The script, as a result, is poorly paced, awkward, and the dialog is often tedious and boring. A lot of good ideas go to waste!

Third, no one here evidently knows how to make a TV show. The whole affair, for reasons stated, is just awkward. Mumbling actors with inconsequential lines move around to no end and no purpose.

THere are so many times when I see a David idea that screams "Seinfeld!" that I want to love this show, but the fact of the matter is that the ideas are great, but the execution is awful, and the show is more tedious than funny.

Larry David is the classic example of the Peter Principle. Promoting him to top billing and letting him try to carry a show was a big mistake. On network television he'd flame out quickly and the smug critics would say this was the fault of the tv audience that lacks sophistication. To the contrary, if you're really sophisticated, you won't go along with the mob view of this show, and you'll recognize its many and fatal flaws.

Summary: THIS SHOW IS ABOUT SOMETHING
Review: And it is something else! This is what couldn't be said at the coffee shop on Larry David's other network series, that is without disagreement one of the greatest comedy series of all time. The fictional telling of David's daily log is superlative. What misery $400 million can bring...a parasite manager and a PMS-ing wife, and a host of classic characters. The best episodes: PORNO GIL (the look on Cheryl David's face after the telling of the tabasco use is priceless), AAMCO (the dinner table and the bet payoff), BELOVED AUNT (the obituary)none of which could have been shown on network. There's even better news: Season 2 tops the premiere season.

Summary: Funniest TV Show EVER
Review: This beats out Seinfeld, probably because of the raw nature HBO allows. But you can certainly see Seinfeld in Larry, and Larry in Seinfeld. The shows are similar in usually having 3 stories going on at once, and wrapping them all together in the end.

As George was at times painful to watch in his idiocy, Larry is the same way. His wife is wonderful, usually the only person who really understands Larry. Why in the world this hottie puts up with him is beyond me!

BTW, I imagine Seinfeld isn't on DVD yet because of syndications. For crying out loud, you can watch it about 4 times a day!

Got the DVD today... Another poster mention CYE in widescreen. It was NEVER in widescreen format. The packaging is a bit gimmicky, but if you hold the sides of the case and PULL, it works. You just can't hold the top. I'm also slightly disappointed that they don't have commentary for every episode. The commentary is only for the first, and is funny in and of itself. Well, gotta watch this before sundown :-)

Summary: A MODERN CLASSIC
Review: This isn't a closed circle exclusive to the rich, but rather more akin to the disturbed mutterings of an individual lost in his own world. The everyman finally becomes the centre of attention and you have to admit it's marvellous. Life is ridiculous, curb your enthusiasm.

Summary: Absolutely Hilarious
Review: Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. I usually go to my neighbor's house to watch the show. However, I have recently ordered HBO so I can watch this comedic master piece at home.

Summary: A real comic treat!
Review: I'm not a big TV fan, but Curb Your Enthusiasm anchored me to HBO (and my TV) every week. Truly one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. And yes, while it is a bit cerebral, and may require a few viewings to pick up on some of the more subtle attributes of this shows humor, from minute one it's time well spent.

Enjoy...

Summary: CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM= HILARIOUS
Review: Larry David is a comedic genius... even if he's too busy making a total catastrophe out of his day to day interactions to notice it! This show is totally brilliant. While the cast is given an outline of where each episode is going & is told the basics of what they hope to achieve in each scene- the show is about 70% ad-libbed which makes it even funnier! While Larry is obviously hilarious, series stars Cheryl Hines (as Cheryl David, Larrys much put upon wife) & Jeff Garlin (as Jeff Green, Larrys devil may care manager) are a delight to watch. Not to mention Richard Lewis, Wanda Sykes & Ted Danson, who are all series regulars as themselves. Larry has one tourette moment after another on the show which makes me think of all the things I would like to say but DONT. The things you think in your head that arent fit for public consumption just roll out of Larrys mouth at the drop of a hat. I cant wait to get Season 1 on DVD- hope Seasons 2 & 3 come out soon as well. The Season 3 season finale is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Summary: subscribe to HBO Now!
Review: Another example of cutting-edge TV from HBO. You name it: Sopranos, Sex in the City, The Corner, Mind of a Married Man... HBO is the pinnacle of creativity. This is the best comedey/sitcom/reality show EVER on TV. Seinfeld without the constraints of Network TV sensors. People either love Curb or hate it (my wife hates it, doesn't get it???). I think it may be a guy thing. Love it or hate it, everyone who watches will relate to a character, especially Larry David. Or, you will have a neurotic acquaintence that you compare one of the characters to. Curb Your Enthusiansm is a great program... highly regarded. Keep the episodes coming, and please don't sell it to the networks.

Summary: Seinfeld West, but so much more than that!!!
Review: When I watched "Curb" for the first time, I immediately thought "Seinfeld on the West Coast". Little did I know at the time the star was none other than Larry David, one of geniuses behind one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Well, "Curb" takes Seinfeldian life to the next level: crude language, bawdy humor, sex, religion, death, family, social anxiety, etc, etc. One of my FAVORITES thus far is when Larry blurts out the "C" word (read: bad word for female anatomy) during a "friendly" poker game!!!

Seems like all bases get covered, in hilarious, witty fashion. I know some people who just don't "get" Seinfeld (hard to believe). But If YOU can't find humor in "Curb", then YOU don't have a funny bone in your body. Sorry, in this case, I just can't curb my enthusiasm!! This show is AWESOME!!

Summary: You don't have to LIKE Larry to appreciate the show's genius
Review: Whether you agree with how Larry behaves in this show is irrelevent. This show is so original and different from most junk on television. "Curb" is not exactly reality, but often incorporates aspects of it into the show. (ex, people playing their real-life selves, everyday situations/language)What makes the show work is characters. Maybe you don't react the way Larry might in a situation, but you may have given it a consideration. Larry explores some of our dark fears as people. Thanks HBO as well. Life is not rated PG, TV14, or whatever! The show doesn't aim to "shock" the audience, but its subject matter speaks for itself and the language used isn't inappropriate when taking characters into consideration. I just feel the structure of the show is enough reason to watch it. Basically the lead character is a "weirdo," with a hot wife, and the scenes are improvised. (Yes, I am aware there is a plot outline.) "Curb" tweeks with reality for comedic purposes. This show makes me use all sorts of laughs when I watch. (Ranging from small chuckles to nearly urinating myself) I don't consider myself necessarily a genius, but I suppose "Curb" is meant for people who are somewhat intelligent, and yet still want to laugh from time to time in life.
