Rating: Summary: Are there any shows on TV any better than this one ? Review: I will keep it short and sweet, if you loved SEINFELD, even if you have never seen this show on HBO, you will love it and I recommend you buy this DVD today. Upon watching it, you will be eagerly waiting for the next few seasons to come out on DVD as well. Its hard to think of any shows on TV now or ever that are as funny as this one
Rating: Summary: I Know Larry will read this... Review: What a fantastic series! When Seinfeld went off the air, I did not think anything could ever touch it for its pure unadulterated comedy. I stand corrected! Congratulations to Larry David and the great team he put together on this wonderful show. By the way Larry, the bit that Kramer plays on the tour is really funny.
Rating: Summary: You're luck to have this! Where's Region 2? Review: I sometimes think that the creative and talented people behind some of the greatest artistic achievements of our times hae no idea that there is a world outside the USA. Or is it the businessmen behind those talents? I live in the UK - we're not as big as the USA, but there are 60 million people here, and we're all into DVDs and quality every bit as much as people are in America. I have money burning a hole in my pocket, desperate to be spent on a REGION 2 DVD of Curb Your Enthusiasm. BUT SUCH A THING DOES NOT EXIST!!!!!!!!!!!!! While I'm on the subject, this isn't the only show or movie that is available in the States but not in Europe. But I won't bore you lot with a list. Let's keep things specific: This is a great, great TV show, perhaps bettered only by its own second series. You're lucky it's available, so why not buy it! Cheers!
Rating: Summary: Isn't the Complete Season cutoff 12 episodes??? Review: There are only 10 episodes, well 11 if you count the pilot special - is that really a complete season? I don't have HBO so I only saw one Curb Your Enthusiasm on an unlucky travel night at Motel 6. Now I own the DVDs. I destroyed the weird container, it sorta turns into a glider plane when you open it - probably the HBO lady that wanted to design Larry's standup stage was given the DVD packaging project instead. Oh well, this is one DVD set held together with a rubber band that I will never want to sell on EBAY. If you thought you would never find a comedy better than Seinfeld, try Curb Your Enthusiasm. Its Heaven! Thanks Larry!!
Rating: Summary: The Funniest Show Ever Made Review: Larry David is simply a classic comedian. He created Jerry Seinfeld, he's a stand up comic, and praise the Lord - he has his own television show. This show is much like Seinfeld, and I'm not surprised because Jerry and Larry have the same personality. If you thought Seinfeld was a classic, you ain't seen nothing yet. I would reccommend this to anyone that enjoys, or doesn't mind, vulgar language. (Since it's on HBO, they're allowed to cuss all they want, and one episode is really 30 Minutes because HBO has no commercials.) In closing, if you just want to laugh your ass silly, I implore that you buy this.
Rating: Summary: Astringent Review: "Seinfeld" distilled to a bitter cognac. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Rating: Summary: You can't rent it, you must own it. Review: While I really enjoy Larry David, and the twisted humor/honesty of this series, it's tough to justify more than one episode per sitting. You want to rewatch each episode because of details you can only appreciate after seeing it once. Compared to a Seinfeld episode, these 10 episodes would strike me as being more costly to produce from the number of different scenes filmed. If you enjoyed Seinfeld, this is a 2 DVD set well-worth owning.
Rating: Summary: The best show on TV Review: Quite simply, this is the funniest show on television. The first season is one disaster after another as Larry David trudges through his life, being put upon at every turn. Everyone from Michael the blind guy to Richard Lewis to Cheryl's relatives are great. The Beloved "Aunt" is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. For those of you who haven't seen it, imagine a better version of Seinfeld with an edge. Can't wait for the 2nd and 3rd season to come out.
Rating: Summary: One of the funniest programs ever produced Review: This is a program that I find very hard to watch because it makes me so uncomfortable with the insane situations Larry David gets himself into, but, at the same time, it's so damned hilarious I HAVE to watch it! Any one of the asinine situations created by Larry David could conceivably happen to almost any one of us, but most of us could easily and fairly painlessly diffuse the majority of these as a matter of course. Larry is definitely his own worst enemy as it's his insistence on expecting society to respond to him the way HE thinks it should, and, even though it's readily apparent life doesn't work that way, he just doesn't seem willing or capable of making the compromises required if one wishes to avoid "unsettling" exchanges with others. He's not mean-spirited, clueless, or insensitive, but manages to come off that way to many of the folks with whom he comes into conflict. Larry's predicaments may be his own doing, but, at the same time, he's usually a victim of some kind of injustice as a result of another's misunderstanding or misinterpreting his behavior. I think this is one of the best series I've had the pleassure of watching on TV.
Rating: Summary: The "I Love Lucy" for the New Millennium Review: Work with me on this! Remember how Lucy always got into a jam and how she tried to fix things and often made things worse. Enter Larry David and "Curb Your Enthusiasm." David so often tries to do the right thing, or to stand up for what is pragmatically, albeit trivially, just, only to have everything backfire. While "Lucy" was advanced in so many ways, it was still grounded in the 50s, but with an edge that made it unique and assured its long life in reruns. "Curb" is set squarely in this century, has show biz swirling in and out of the plots, and involves a character who can be lovable, creative, selfish, observant and prone to disaster all in the same episode. I feel it has a long life ahead of it, also. I admit, it took me a few episodes to "get it" and to become a hard-core fan. The DVD of the first season is an excellent package. In fact, I now want all the seasons to come out by next month or I'll be disappointed! Though I've seen all but two of these episodes on HBO, rewatching them---again with the comparison---reminds me of how I used to watch Lucy: repeated viewings of, for example, the candy factory episode, or the wine stomping episode, never got old. The laughs kept coming. With "Curb," I've watched the doll head episode, the baptism episode and the manger episode several times each and still laugh my ass off. When they come out on DVD, the laughter will continue. The world in these first years of the new century is a pretty scary and creepy place, no thanks to many of our elected officials, so having a guy like Larry David to take us away from it all for a half hour at a time is a good thing. Lucy did it 50 years ago. Larry David is doing it now. In my book that's one definition of a National Treasure.
