Summary: Throw me a frikkin' CONE here
Review: Bloody funny film. The anglobilia is absolutely spot-on. Funniest scenes: Dr Evil's castigation of his incompetent staff (see review title); Powers' endless relief after 30 years of cryogenic suspension; Powers' denial of ownership of a certain device thru customs; implementation of dental rehabilitation products as escape devices. Make no mistake, this is not Bergman or Tarkovsky. It IS one of the funniest comedies since the classic 60s rudery of the Carry On series (it may even outdo Carry On Spying. From me this is High Praise). I'm an avant-garde, black-wearing existentialist who never laughs, and I loved it. It MUST be good. Shall we see it now, or see it later, baby?

Summary: Shagidelically funny!
Review: Austin powers international man of mystery is a hilarious movie! Lots of gross humor and slapstick comedy. Appropriately rated PG-13, this film will have you rolling of your seat whether it's Dr.Evil's cat Mr.Biggle'sworth or Austin power's libido!

Summary: Groovy Baby!
Review: This is one of my favorite movies ever! I first saw it a few years ago, and loved it. However, within the last year, I've watched all 19 Bond movies, and now many more jokes in Austin Powers make sense. I now understand what was with the chairs dumping people into fire (similar to the electric chairs in Thunderball), Random Task's shoe throwing (Oddjob with his hat in Goldfinger), and where some of the villan's names came from (Random Task = Oddjob, Alotta Fagina = Pussy Galore, No. 2 = No. 2/Emilio Largo). I don't know about other people, but I also like this movie better than the sequel. The sequel isn't as funny or original, too much bathroom humor. The original Austin Powers is in my opinion one of the funniest movies I've seen.

Summary: Austin is funnier every time
Review: This film honestly gets funnier every time I see it. Beyond that, this DVD is FULL of wonderful features from anamorphic widescreen to a funny commentary with Mike Myers and Jay Roach. Some of the deleted scenes are just as funny as the ones left in the movie. Particularly the breifcase scene.

Summary: Mike Myers at his best
Review: This was one of the best, if not the best comedy movie of the 90's. A swinging 60's man named Austin Powers is frozen along with his evil nemesis Dr. Evil. They are unfrozen again in the 90's and Dr. Evil goes back to his old evil deeds. With Mike Myers constantly add-libbing, it makes the movie exciting, wildely funny, and keeps you on the edge of your seat most of the time. This movie is for everyone, with a few bad words here and there, nothing too bad. This is a really fun movie to watch, and you can watch it over and over and not get tired of it. Go out and get your copy today!

Summary: Much funnier than 'Persona'
Review: I suppose if you took the James Bond films seriously then this film would be funny. It basically tells you all the places where you should have been laughing in the originals. Of course, if you already know where and when to laugh in a James Bond film, then Austin Powers is superfluous and, after a few minutes, quite boring. Rather than waste 90 minutes watching the film, why not buy a poster of Elizabeth Hurley, a chest wig and a dental prosthesis, and say to yourself such phases as 'groovy baby' and 'wow' - you'll have a lot more fun.

Summary: Hilarious, and brilliant spoof writing
Review: This is a brilliant funny movie. So many jokes - especially those wonderful inside jokes poking fun at the whole spy movie genre - that even after seeing it many times, I'm still laughing out loud. Dr. Evil is a character the creation of which is sheer genius, and the addition of his son Scott, who doesn't want to be evil makes for some great, hilarious, brilliantly written dialogue. I find myself being a real fan of Dr. Evil as a character, and preferring his antics to those of Powers (though this is to say nothing bad about the character of Powers). Dr. Evil is just plain funny - falls down, has problems with his chair wheeling itself off screen when he pushes off the conference table too hard. And the amazing dialogue of Dr. Evil telling about his childhood in the group therapy session for fathers and sons who don't get along ("My mother was a 15-year old French prostitute. When I became intolerable, I was put in a burlap sack and beaten with reeds. In the Spring, we would make meat helmets. Very typical childhood, really." There's more - but that should be enough to get you interested). Mike Meyers is a great writer and a great humorist/actor, playing Dr. Evil and Powers both. And I must also make a nod to Tom Arnold for his acting, sitting in the bathroom stall next to Powers' while Powers' is being choked. Perfectly Tom Arnold, and very, very funny.

The movie has a story, but not a story that one can really deconstruct and pull something meaningful out of, but it is not supposed to be myth or high literature. This is parody/spoof - it is talking only about spy genre movies - and works perfectly at that. But even if you don't know the spy movies, you'll still be laughing your lungs out at the movie. And the sequel is just as good, if not better - a rarity in the movie world.

The DVD is so full of extra goodies, it'll add hours to your watching time. This is absolutely good value, and really what any every DVD should be like. The audio commentary with Meyers et. al. is a very informative and funny commentary.

Summary: Groovy, Baby!
Review: Austin Powers is one of the best comedies lately, because it's way different! Mike Myers does a groovy job as Austin Powers, and Elizabeth Hurley is awesome... as ever! The jokes may not be absolutely hilarious, but they sure are funny enough. It's a ... and funny trip back into the "swingin'" 60's! It's also a groovy DVD that I recommend for everyone!

Summary: The definitive 007 spoof
Review: Can Mike Myers do no wrong? Well, besides resurrecting the Village People? This time, he's created the best 007 spoof I've ever seen. Well, the only 007 spoof I've ever seen. As a die-hard Bond fan, I found so many James Bond references in this movie. My personal favorite is, where Scott Evil, Dr. Evil's test tube son, insists Dr. Evil kill Austin Powers with a handgun, but he favors "Putting them in an easily escapable situation involving an overly elaborate and exotic death". Dr. Evil is one of the stupidest movie villains, ever. He's every bad James Bond villain rolled into one. He's certainly the most memorable, too. As are his sidekicks, like Frau Farbissina (who's taken from On Her Majesty's Secret Service), founder of the militant wing of the Salvation Army, or businessman Number 2, who's more interested in making honest money, than world dominaion, or the Fez-clad Mustafa.

The plot - Dr. Evil is a 60's villian, Austin Powers is the James Bond of his day. When Dr. Evil escapes in a cryogenic chamber, Austin has himself frozen in case Dr. Evil ever returns. Well, he does, and he tries coming up with a plan, but he instead decides to opt for his usual plan - hijack a nuclear weapon and hold the world hostage... for $1,000,000. No, sorry, $100 billion.

The DVD's good, too. It's got some deleted scenes, not as good as the ones in The Spy Who Shagged Me, but it's got a hilarious alternate ending where he and uber-babe Elizabeth Hurley wind up in a raft, floating on the ocean, and Austin explains "All my movies end this way, baby!".

Anyone that appreciates James Bond, or good comedy will love this movie. Anyone that likes Mike Myers will love this movie. You basically can't go wrong with this one, unless you dislike gross-out humor, in which case, stay away. Otherwise, I seriously think that Mike Myers can't do anything wrong. I hope that we'll see more Austin Powers adventures soon.

Summary: Mike Myers is not funny! The Bond gags are good though.
Review: I was disappointed with this film. I can't for the life of me see why it has such a great following. Maybe it is because people will applaud anything these days no matter how pathetic it is. Just because it is a movie it doesn't mean that you automatically have to like it. Why don't you use your own minds to decide what is good and what isn't. The good bits of this film are the bits with Dr Evil and his ilk. I like the idea of his character that takes off Blofeld in the Bond movies. There are some great ideas for the film, especially the bits that are borrowed from the Bond movies, although you will have to be an avid Bond fan to get all the jokes. However, some of the jokes go on WAY too long. Like the announcer trying to finish the "evacuation" sequence while Austin is relieveing himself. That goes on and on and on and we get the joke! You don't need to go on with it. The sad thing is that the joke wasn't funny the first time. Now the bad bits: Mike Myers! Who told you you were funny? You are NOT! Really, any bits with Myers in were the worst in the film. He looks a bit like Eric Morcombe but with out any of the charm or the humour. Not worth all the hype! Suggest you buy a comedy instead.
