Summary: Which Version
Review: For those of you lucky enough to know, or who propose to get to know, this flick, you've come to the right place. Amazon sells two DVD versions of My Man Godfrey. I've seen both, as well as the VHS, and this one, the least expensive, from a company called Platinum, is by far the best quality. The other DVD, by Madacy Entertainment, is a fiasco based on a terrible print that happens to also be missing a crucial scene. Why Amazon continues to sell it, I don't know.

Summary: Great Movie - Wait for the Criterion Disc
Review: Yes, this is one of the best screwball comedies ever made and it is a shame that Madacy has released such a bad version on DVD. The Madacy version has an important scene missing and a bad video transfer. I look forward to the Criterion edition, reportedly in the works for 2001.

Summary: The Bottom Line
Review: As a previous customer-reviewer noted, the Madacy Entertainment DVD release of My Man Godfrey is flawed. Overall quality is not much better than the VHS version, and several scenes are so washed out as to be practically unwatchable. What's worse is an entire missing scene. Didn't anybody *look* at the master? Doesn't anybody give a damn? Perhaps this is the wave of the future, companies like Madacy Entertainment, engaged in a business about which they know little and care less. A disgrace.

Summary: Hilarious fun!
Review: This is a great screwball comedy that will have you laughing all the way through. William Powell is perfect as the calm butler Godfrey and Carole Lombard shines as Irene, the well-intentioned but scatterbrained daughter of a well to do family. This is without a doubt one of the classic screwball comedies of all time.

Summary: Good movie
Review: This is a really funny movie. The only thing that i didn't like about it was the picture quality was poor, and some of the lines were unintelligible. If it wasn't for those two problems, I would have given this movie 5 stars. It's very enjoyable to watch.

Summary: truly a classic
Review: Carole Lombard will be most fondly remembered as Irene, the dizzy, delightful heiress with a penchant for "forgotten men" in Gregory La Cava's MY MAN GODFREY.

A delight from start to finish, with a witty script almost on par with that from ALL ABOUT EVE, it's a comedy of classes clashing, and lives that would stay apart suddenly merging together.

William Powell is the unflappable "butler" Godfrey, who is claimed by the naive Irene during a social scavenger hunt, and finds himself employed in Irene's household....with hilarious results!

A magnificent supporting cast includes Gail Patrick and Jean Dixon, and it's a superlative example of the best Thirties screwball comedy.

Summary: William Powell is at his best
Review: A dysfunctional but seemingly wealthy family takes in a new butler of dubious background. In return the butler saves the family in more ways than one. (This is a comedy)

I really appreciate this movie on many levels. You may recognize several people types just in the Bullock family. The interaction between Carole Lombard and William Powell is worth watching in its self. I particularly like when Tommy Gray (Alan Mowbray) has to explain his earlier relationship with Godfrey.

As good as this movie is I still like the remake with David Niven and June Allyson just as well. My Man Godfrey (1957) ASIN: 6302968232 but many of his movies are hard to find. Such as "The Statue" and "Prudence and the pill."

Summary: Best comedy ever!
Review: My man Godfrey is the absolute best comedy ever filmed. I have seen this movie hundreds of times and every time I see or hear something new. My friends all know that I quote from the movie whenever the situation allows me to. My favorite quote is "Life is but an empty bubble" Whenever a tray of dishes gets dropped in a restaurant it's "their go the profits!" Buy this movie. You won't be sorry. At the very least, rent it and give it a chance. It's loud and dizzy and you'll laugh a mile a minute.

Review: One of my favorite movies of all time. I think I watch it once or twice a year. Just watch and enjoy.

Summary: I LOVE GODFREY!!!
Review: I absolutely love this movie and have watched it numerous times, the first when I was a teenager. William Powell, one of the screen's all time greats, is superb as Godfrey Park, a "forgotten man" who tries to stay removed from the wackiness of the Bullock family, but eventually succumbs to that "foolish feeling" for Irene ("yah, yah, yah"), played by the fabulously funny Carole Lombard, who's conviced Godfrey loves her when he puts her in the shower. I've shown this film to many of my friends (who couldn't believe they'd never seen it!), and they too have fallen in love with Godfrey, Irene and the rest of the Bullock clan (even Cornelia). It will leave you "leffing" hysterically, trust me.
