Summary: My regretful return to 'Summer School'...
Review: When it comes to some movies, the passage of time isn't all that kind to them... which was the case with "Summer School" when I recently caught it the first time in several years. The movie's fairly sophomoric humor and smattering of gross-out gags just didn't entertain me quite as much with this latest viewing as it did all those years ago. Back when I first saw it, it seemed to have a fair deal of genuinely funny moments-- like the cussing-in-class scene, for example. But after my most current viewing, I saw it merely as a fairly standard 80s `underdog-overcoming-the-odds' kinda comedy with some cute moments, a few light chuckles here `n' there and a somewhat sappy ending. I guess you could say I'd outgrown this flick-- which is kinda sad, considering how fun I thought it was way back when. `Course, it hasn't helped that my opinion of Mark Harmon and his... thespian talents... have fallen by the wayside in the intervening years. But, that's another gripe for another day...
