Summary: wicked good movie
Review: Having spent the past few minutes reading through other people's reviews of this movie, I just want to hunt down the authors of the negative, even the tepid, reviews and shake some sense into them. This is one of the sharpest, most brilliant movies I've seen in a long, long time. This is the movie I am making my friends watch one by one; the one that hasn't worn thin over 7 or 8 viewings. No, it's not for everyone: If you're really wedded to Johnny Galecki's total-nice-guy character on Roseanne, or Christina Ricci as an innocent young teenager, you might not enjoy this. And I'd have to lump you with the nicer people Dedee refers to early in the movie: "We call them losers." The actors have had the sense and good taste to move on rather than recycling themselves; why don't you?

Summary: Meaning saturated in every line.
Review: One of the best independent films I've seen this year, THE OPPOSITE OF SEX focuses on the narrator of the film, Dedee Truitt, played by Christina Ricci. Perhaps her best performance so far, her dialogue is witty and knowing, her timing impeccable. She portrays Truitt as sort of an actress with no thoughts about getting into pictures or theater but just to get by. She flees to her sometimes understanding gay half-brother, Bill, falls in love with his boyfriend, and takes off with him to a distant place. Meanwhile, and there is a lot of "meanwhile"s in the script, that you seem to get overwhelmed, Bill's deceased love's sister, Lucia Delury, played with great strength by Lisa Kudrow, buys plane tickets to go after the newly formed couple. The film is packed full of truly interesting characters, imaginative one-liners, and a hearty script, one that could only been dreamed up by someone who has gone through this all and survived. That someone should be congratulated. Writer-director Don Roos has made a masterpiece, in my mind anyway. Just because it is an independent film and you have never heard of it, don't pass it by.

Summary: Lolita for the Millenium!!!
Review: This is a GREAT film that doesn't take itself too seriously. If you can take the scathing, politically-incorrect rantings of Christina Ricci in a FABULOUS role without getting offended, then this is the film for you! It is funny beyond belief and is just wonderful. The best sub-plot revolves around Ricci's character seducing her brother's seemingly homo-sexual lover. What fun! You have to listen to get every luscious detail, but this film is really worth a go...An absolute 5 stars!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Brilliant debut
Review: Having seen other movies that Don Roos has written (Boys On The Side, Love Field, Single White Female) I didn't know what to expect of his directorial debut, but what I was in for was shocking, delightful, touching, and incredibly funny! Christina Ricci is incredible, but more inspiring is Lisa Kudrow's turn as the bitter and frustrated spinster. If only more directors would dare to make such unconventional movies more often.

Summary: Good, funny but....
Review: I would of given this movie 5 but Lisa Kudrow's failing character really made a movie just a tiny bit boring as well as the fact that this film had too many gay characters which kinda was annoying. The story is about shocking Deedee Truit (Christina Ricci : Casper, Now And Then) who seduces her brother, Bill (Martin Donovan) when she falls in love with his gay boyfriend. tHe story is very thrilling, entertaining and its mostly about Deedee's life.

Summary: Rent before you buy!
Review: Very over hyped movie. Really disapointing. Other than Lisa Kudrow not much going on here. Some interesting dialogue but not enough to carry the movie. I wanted to like this movie so much but I can't recommed it.

Summary: Christina Ricci Rules
Review: Everyone says that Lisa Kudrow stole the show but we all know Christina Ricci was the lead and she WAS the movie! I'm her biggest fan...seen all of her movies...and this as definatly her best! If you miss this movie.....your missing a lot so go out and rent it.......NOW!

Summary: One of the most overrated films of 1998
Review: It never ceases to amaze me that there are people who rave about this movie. Sure, it has promise. Christina Ricci is one of the more promising young actresses working today. But the script and premise is woefully contrived, dull, gimmicky, and ultimately uninvolving.

Much praise has been heaped on Lisa Kudrow for her supporting performance. Unfortunately, it would seem that the people who have praised it have never heard of Teri Garr, whom Kudrow seems to be working overtime to try and imitate. Pity, as Kudrow has displayed talent.

So forget this movie. If you have not seen it, all the praise will just end up letting you down.

Summary: LISA KUDROW ROCKS!!!!!!
Review: This movie is a rare find, a film with wit, stlye and substance, covered in a frothy foam of cynicism. Christina Ricci may be this movies star but, Lisa Kudrow proves to be it's soul. This movie shows why she wins the emmys. Now if they ever make her a lead. She could well have Helen Hunt on the run. Watch this highly unlikely film today...you'll rethink everyone you love and maybe appreciate them more.

Summary: The Best Movie Ever!!!!!!
Review: well the lowdown with this movie was that it was supposed to be this comepletely dramatic flick, but they just put so much into it that it just became the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. I've recommended this flick to lots of people, and believe me, every one of them walked away happy from that movie
