Rating: Summary: LOVE IT! Review: This is one of my favorite corny movies of all time. I can watch it again and again and again. Everytime I watch it, it gets even funnier! Give this video a chance... it's given all my friends and I a big laugh and I think it might make you giggle up a storm as well. Molly Shannon gives a great performance and so do all the rest of the characters. Very entertaining!
Rating: Summary: Ugh! Review: Harland Williams, perhaps Superstar's brightest candle, was wasted on this movie and his character never hit its stride. Will Ferrell isn't very funny in any endeavor I've seen and this movie was worse than normal. This is a two joke movie and neither of the jokes is sufficient for more than about 20 seconds of material. The rest is just a cynical, derivative mish-mash that watches like it had a dozen writers, none of them willing to put any effort into the project. The parts that were supposed to be scintillating and over-the-top were instead just so much boring filler. I was going to watch the movie a second time to give it a chance to grow on me, but I just couldn't get through more than a few scenes. Give me Austin Powers; give me Waterboy; but please keep Superstar for yourself. Ugh.
Rating: Summary: Stupid but fun - if you haven't already OD'ed on SNL Review: I thought this movie was as stupid as it was hilarious - and I am usually a fan of high-brow drama. Some of the reviewers complain that the movie is just a SNL skit on sterois and they were tired of its brand of humor. Well, I have no doubt it's just a full-blown version of a SNL skit but since I haven't watched SNL regularly for quite a while, I actually found the humor quite hilarious. I am not going to pretend it's got great artistic merits, but it gets 4 stars for mindless entertainment value.
Rating: Summary: a true delight Review: Being a Catholic school girl for so many years (and I still am!), this movie cracked me up. Molly Shannon and Will Ferrel are hilarious. A must see for anyone who enjoys SNL.
Rating: Summary: Good Review: I watched this with my mom, I thought it was halarious, but she thought it was stupid, I guess it wasn't THAT funny, but it's pretty good. I think it's a good movie for teen girls.
Rating: Summary: The best movie I have ever seen! Review: This movie,by far,is the best movie I have ever.Besides the fact that Mary Katherine and I share the same name,I was very much like Mary when I was in school.I also went to a private Catholic school and I know high school is rough.I DEFINATELY recomend this to anyone who loves commedy :)
Rating: Summary: Something for the strange to relate to Review: I expected "Superstar" to be mildly funny throw-away entertainment. I found it, however, to be very funny and suprisingly meaningfull in an offbeat kind of way. If you've ever been the outcast in school ... well, you probably won't be able to relate. But, if you were one of the kids that even the outcasts stayed away from, then this is the movie for you. Mary Katherine Gallagher is my new hero. (As a side note, I related to this movie in almost the same way as I related to Susana Kaysen in "Girl, Interrupted." Completely different movies in tone and substance, but the main characters are very similar in the ways they are set against the world)
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Hilarious! Review: I love this movie. This is one of the best to come out of SNL. Molly Shannon is hilarious as Mary Catherine Gallagher, a Catholic School Girl who's spent her life wishing to grow up to be a Superstar, and to be kissed by Skye Corrigan, the school hunk. The only things that stand in the way of her dreams are her grandmother, who wants her to be a nice, safe business woman, and Evian, the pretty, popular girlfriend of Skye. But with hard work, determination and her Special Ed friends, she's going to work her way to the top! Oh, by the way...did anyone else notice that the only thing the characters ever eat is spaghetti?
Rating: Summary: Superstar! Review: Superstar is the best comedy of 1999 it was a wonderful movie and you peopole who think its a bad movie obviously dont like very many movies I recomond this movie to everyone!
Rating: Summary: Bruce Please Stop... Review: ...making films that is. This is yet another trite bomb from director Bruce McCulloch. 1999 was a banner year for BM. This disaster combined with "Dog Park" is a 1-2 punch of bad film making. Like most SNL skits this one was funny, once, for five minutes. The second time it was a bore. To make a feature film out of it....well apparently BM was the right guy for the job. For the life of me, I can't imagine what the executive producers were thinking here when they laid out the cash for this garbage. Bruce McColloch is rapidly establishing himself as the modern Ed Wood.
