Review: The humor in Clueless is far too ribald and Cher far too arrogant and stupid for me to rank this among my favorite movies.

Summary: Better the 2nd time Around
Review: This movie is really stereotypical of teenages: the "groupies" in school, the excess gum chewing, and the all night every day partying. The best thing you can get out of this movie is that it shows the self understanding and tribuations this female goes through to find a satisfying life (also understanding that materialized posessions don't make life fun by itself), in that of her former step-brother.

I find myself liking this movie even more every time I see it...quite a surprise indeed.

Summary: One very good movie!
Review: Clueless is the ultimate teen comedy for the 90's and will be a classic forever. Great script, great acting, great music, great direction, etc. Anyone who sees this film and tries to take it too seriously is obviously missing the whole point. Alicia Silverstone carries this film like no one else could. I could watch this movie over and over again. BUY IT NOW!!!

Summary: Masterpiece and a half!
Review: Clueless is pure fun and entertainment. It's a total exageration of life at a snobby high school and nothing else can compare.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Surprisingly successful adaptation
Review: It's fairly obvious that this movie is based on Jane Austen's "Emma", and when comparing this film to some of the more traditional adaptations, the surprising thing is that "Clueless" works the best of all of them.

The reason for this may be that the movie constantly winks at itself and at the audience; from the first line--"So, you're thinking, is this a Noxzema commercial, or what?"--we're in on the joke. The plot's pretty thin, but this isn't really a problem; plot is not this movie's strong point. Beyond the superficial vacuities of the characters--the cell phones, the computer-coordinated clothes, the lingo--they have heart, and it's heart that wins in the end. Just like a good Austen novel.

Austen's novels tend to rely on comedies of manners and carefully constructed dialogue to get their point across; likewise, "Clueless" establishes its own standard of conduct early on, and then adheres to it. These characters have a language as formal in its own way as those of Austen's 18th-century parlors, so that a single word can be the highest praise or the most withering insult.

It's also great fun. Just don't take it too seriously.
