Summary: Only worth watching if you have got two hours to waste...
Review: Like a lot of other people, I had a lot of great expectations (but I was not expecting the Truman show). It was BORING, the plot was STUPID. It was like "The Truman Show Meets MTV's The Real World" (and I HATE the "Real World", anyone who doesn't realize that the show is scripted is a fool). The only saving graces were the choices of some of the actors (especially Ed himself). There were a few good laughs, but it wasn't worth the torture.

Summary: I loved it!
Review: I thought that this movie was fantastic! I loved it, I would see it again and again. An amzing plot!

Summary: Great
Review: This movie is enjoyable, touching and yet funny. The storyline is original and rather unpredintable. It is definitely better than The Truman Show. Matthew is endearing as a goofy guy. Watch it! It's worth it.

Summary: Bought this because my husband was an extra in the movie
Review: Unfortunately his scene got cut (along with all the others that they were casting for when he went). This DVD is so great because it not only has the movie and some info about the movie, but it also has deleted scenes. How fun! Also, the feature commentary by Ron Howard is entertaining.

Summary: Potentially could have been predictable, but great!
Review: I completely disagree with the other reviews I've read here. At first I thought the script was going to be predictable, but the direction and wonderful acting across the board kept it extremely believable. I thouroughly enjoyed it unlike the Truman Show, which I thought was over rated and Jim Carey...forget about it, although I am NOT a Jim Carey fan. There were moments toward the end when I thought the charm started to wear off and I wasn't quite convinced of the big change in one of the characters, but overall I thought it was quite wonderful.

Summary: Ron Howard keeps getting better and better.
Review: EDTV was one of the funniest films I have seen in a long time. Like all of Ron Howard's comedies, it had a terrific ensemble cast and wonderful acting. Matthew McConaughey finally picked a movie that was a good role. Ellen Degeneres may eventually get the credit she deserves for her acting.

Summary: If you've got two hours of your life to waste....
Review: This is no Truman Show, folks. It is a poor crack at the same genre. The idea behind it was intriguing, and I have seen a few Ron Howard films that have been very good, ("Apollo 13", for example), so it was quite a letdown. Fear not, Jim Carrey.

Summary: See 'The Truman Show' instead...
Review: After seeing 'The Truman Show', and loving it, I was intrigued when another movie of this ilk was released. And, since 'Apollo 13'-director Ron Howard directed this picture, I figured that it had to be great. 'Twas quite a mistake, matey. This is easily the worst film I have seen in the past two years. Unlike 'Truman', this film is let down by the fact that Ed auditioned to be on the show, and is aware of the cameras at all times. It makes for a movie that is tedious and annoying. Of course, not much can match the joy I felt as the ending credits rolled. Please, spare yourself from this one.

Summary: Alas, what could have been...
Review: Pleasantville and The Truman Show aside, EDtv was a movie whose time had come, but what could have been a true examination of what our fame-crazed society is like became just another sitcom. And the building blocks were all there to make this a better movie, as the excised scenes available on DVD clearly indicate. EDtv could have had something that it truky needed - an edge. An entire sub-sub-plot about a copycat TV program was taken out, and I think the finished film was poorer for it. People would have left the theatre talking about the film instead of wondering where they paarked the car.

However, the film is not without its charms. The cast is up tot he task, the casting of media-plagued celebrities is inspired but not intrusive, and the overall effect is not unplesaant. This is only a two star movie, though.

Still, I give the DVD version an extra star because of the extras. The outtakes are funny once, the Making of Featurette is of passable interest, but no other DVD in my experience has been as rich and unstinting in deleted scenes. Not since the legendary recalled version of Little Shop of Horrors has an audience had this kind of opportunity to see what might have been.

Now if only there was an easy way to re-edit the film myself...

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: A poor spoof of "Truman"
Review: I had better hopes for this movie strictly because it was a Ron Howard film. Instead, it was an intentionally campy movie with little more than an occassional joke thrown in. Makes "The Iron Giant" look like an oscar winner.
