Rating: Summary: Nichols is in primary condition Review: Something you would expect from the same guy who directed the legendary film The Graduate. Primary Colors is my second favorite movie from Nichols. It is such a one-of-a-kind movie with its plot taken from a Bill and Hillary Clinton-esque view. Combining one hell of a plot with a very humorous cast, Nichols scores again with another nice flick.
Rating: Summary: Emotionally Satyristic Movie, Very Good. Review: My wife and I, really enjoyed the DVD version. John Travolta (excellent actor) has the demeanor of an "antisocial" and very good politician. The character of the campaign director is the "Super-Ego" of the family. Emma Thompson is a very hard woman, strong and confident. I loved the intervention of Maura Tierney, she is a very supportive woman in this movie as well as in "Liar Liar". I believe that women like her are very hard to find. The movie has more expressed emotions than the average movie. Not recommended for children under 17 years, nor over 74 years.
Rating: Summary: HILARIOUS Review: THIS FILM IS WORTH VIEWING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IT'S A MUST SEE FOR COMEDY FANS. TRAVOLTA DOES A SUPERB JOB PORTRAYING A CLINTON-LIKE PRESIDENT
Rating: Summary: Bates makes this a Must-See Review: It feels like a Clinton biopic but is actually a spectacular adaptation of the best-selling novel. Like "The Bridges of Madison County," this film is capable of besting its source material in various areas, especially characterization of the supporting players. Don't miss the Big Zoom! Mike Nichols moves from a hotel room of jabbering campaign spinmeisters to candidate Travolta enjoying a hearty chat with a cashier at Krispy Kreme--pinpointing the two poles of Clinton/Stanton politics in one sweep of the camera. All the performances are solid, but Kathy Bates' amazing acting clinic allows this film to transcend its topicality. If there is justice, she will win Oscar.
Rating: Summary: A look at morality and whether the ends justify the means. Review: One of the best movies I've seen, and it would be even if we weren't coping with the Clinton scandals. Seen separately it looks at the seductive nature of power and the decisions people who crave it make. It really is a very moral movie, (although I found the language unfortunately overdone). I'm not a Travolta fan, but he did a splendid job, as did most of the cast. Although there are funny moments, I think it's more tragedy than comedy. Splendid movie.
Rating: Summary: does a good job... Review: ...of portraying liberals' uneasy truce with the whole Clinton circus, as our admiration for his ability to win middle-American hearts and votes comes in constant tension with our deep sense of unease about his slimey amorality. On the other hand, most of the suporting characters are sort of half-baked and if anything John Travolta isn't as good a performer as the Fellatee-in-Chief.I know it's obnoxious when people say this, but in this case it's true: the book was a lot better.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful film! Review: Gets right at the heart of all that is going on in Washington, and gives a new perspective to all the stuff that Hillary has put up with over the years. Quite a bit of language, but I really do think you'll enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: What? Review: If Clinton has friends like this, why does he need enemies
Rating: Summary: Political Pixie Review: In the sense of what has been happening in Washington. This John Travolta film, stained an image into the average citzens mind frame. The film with an elite group of politcal analysts who are merely upset due to the message of this film have pressed for there own notirity. In my opinion Travolta imiates President Clinton through his character. A small southern govenor who can't keep is penis in his pants. I feel that the current White House scandals are introduced to the public in this provactive film. The film has a good plot and an excellent direction to allow viewing; by people who aren't into the political scene. I do feel the film lacks an important necesity; in that being a moral or redemption for the Travolta/Clinton's actions. The four stars repersent good and innocent acting with a juicy plot. --Anthony O'Steen --Freelance Critic
Rating: Summary: John Travolta for President! Review: One can't help thinking how timely the release of this DVD was as the Clinton-Lewinsky sex scandal reached a crescendo. The movie eerily mirrors the presidency of another southern Governor who can't keep it in his pants! Mike Nichols, the director of The Graduate, deserves an Oscar nomination for his superb direction of this all-star cast. Golden Globe Nominee Kathy Bates performance makes this one worth owning.
