Summary: If you like Chris Rock, you'll like this movie
Review: In addition to serving as an actor, producer, and writer, in HEAD OF STATE Chris Rock also assumes the role of director for the first time. In HEAD OF STATE, Rock plays Washington, D.C., alderman Mays Gilliam, who is setup repeatedly as someone who truly wants to make a difference. For the rest of the film we watch Gilliam's presidential campaign, which basically becomes a platform for stereotypical racial humor and Rock's thinly disguised standup routines.Tamala Jones plays Gilliam's new love interest, and plays the part well. Robin Givens is funny as Gilliam's ex-girlfriend, although she really only has one gag that she gets to repeat over and over again during the movie. Bernie Mac never really gets to shine in his role as Gilliam's brother. Tracy Morgan is placed in what should be a cameo role but instead is asked to play a bizarre character that appears in the movie altogether too frequently. The movie is reasonably strong for the first half but slows down as it struggles into the finish line. It's not a movie with continuous laughs, but if you like Chris Rock's comedy then you will probably enjoy this movie.

Review: Okay people, Chris Rock is funny. I usually love his movies and own a few of them. However, whoever let this one out of the idea stage needs to be shot, burned in effigy, shot again, and then fired.
This movie was so bad I nearly walked out of the movie theater. I'm sorry, but any ability I have to pretend that a movie is real was destroyed in the first 30 mins of this travesty.
If the most astute commentary that Chris Rock has on US politics is "I know you are but what am I?", perhaps he should find another genre of film to do. There are laughs to be had, because face it, Chris Rock is a funny guy. He just should steer clear of political satire until he understands politics and/or satire. All he did is make a fool of himself onscreen and set back the quest for an African-American president offscreen. If you had to waste your money so you could sit through this sorry excuse for a political comedy, let me hear you say "That ain't right!".

Review: I'm a big fan of Chris Rock. His book ("Rock This!") is practically my bible, and I loved the Chris Rock show on HBO, but I was pretty dissapointed by this movie... I think that Bringin Down The House did the whole "black and white" thing much much better. This movie seemed to have no direction and I spend 90 minutes just sitting there and being dissapointed because of how better i think each scene could have been. The random punching scenes with Bernie Mac are just stupid... and even the black audience didn't laugh 10% as much as they did at Bringing Down The House... even though "Head Of State" is clearly tailored for a black audience. I don't GET Chris. He's shows so much talent in his stand up acts and in his book, why would he write a movie like this? I suggest you rent it.

Summary: Completely Hilarious!!!
Review: First off, I would not recommend this movie if you are looking for a comedy with a strong plot or storyline. What you see in the commercials and trailors is basically it. If you are looking for comedy, then yes... this movie is hilarious. Anyone who knows Chris Rock knows his humor and it shows in this movie. Just the fact that him and Bernie Mack are together is enough to make even the most serious laugh. If your trying to find a funny movie to see with a date or just with friends on a night out, this is the movie for you. You will be laughing without control at times. The theatre I was in was cracking up! I give this movie 4.0 stars laughter wise... but overall I give it 3.5 stars. The acting can be somewhat bad at times and the plot could be stronger, but you will probably be too busy laughing to notice that.

Review: I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO ALL WHO WOULD LIKE A TRUE LAUGH, HOWEVER NOT ALL PEOPLE WILL GET ALL OF THE JOKES. THIS MOVIE SEEMS TO BE TARGETED AT PEOPLE AGED 12-45. FOR THAT AGE GROUP, IT WILL BE VERY ENJOYABLE.

Summary: THAT AIN'T RIGHT
Review: One of the best films of the year that is Rated PG-13. 1,000,000,000,000 times better than Daredevil and 1,000 times better than Spider Man. (didn't like daredevil) (loved spiderman) My favorite part was the roof is one fire. I laughed a whole lot. I will defintly buy that movie on DVD when it first comes out.

Summary: Cute Comedy!!!
Review: Chris Rock wrote, directed, and stars in the cute political comedy, which despite its far-fetched plot and situations, still manages to please. Rock plays Mays Gilliam, a black man who's chosen by the leaders of an unspecificed party to run for president after the previous candidates unexpectedly die in a plane crash. Though he initially follows his handler's orders, Gilliam soon starts doing things in his own outspoken way, which upsets the party leaders who chose him, since they only chose him so he could lose. Chris Rock is a smart, fast-talking comedian and I keep wondering when the academy will figure out he could host the Oscars. Here he plays his usual persona, more or less, in a movie where some of the edges are rough and others are serrated. We keep getting these movie fantasies where political candidates say what they think, are not afraid to offend, cut through the crap and take stands. The film works on the most part, but it isn't as smart or funny as it wants to be. It's enjoyable on the most part, with funny performances by Chris Rock and Bernie Mac (as his brother and running mate), but it desperately needs that 'smart ass edge' it lacks. Sure, it's a cute film, but a troubled one that is desperate for laughs. It could have been a crowd-pleasure, but it's missing too much.

Summary: Political Satire
Review: When a presidential candidate and his running mate are killed in a plane collision, the political party decides that they will be prepared for the next election by winning over the 'minorities'. How do they plan to do this? By having a black man complete this campaign. It is a comedy, so you pretty much know how this movie will end, but getting there is fun--and sometimes intriguing. It could have done without the violence, but the running 'Security' joke works very well. Considering the current State of the Union we are facing, some people might be offended with the humor. But it is just a movie that makes you think a little and mostly just has fun. Rated PG-13 for language, themes, and violence. Enjoy!

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: I really enjoyed the movie even though there was times that I wanted to have some scenes continue on for awhile. I would have loved to see more of Bernie Mac. I loved the concept of not believing in a person just to make a quota or get what you want from life.
