Summary: "Not Another Teen Movie" meets "Six Feet Under" (sort of)
Review: Some criticis of this movie are simply missing the point. It's not a social conscience movie. The movie is an amusing treatment of what happens when you truly cross the line of convention. Your rich fake friends and your rich fake family will simply not follow you, for fear of being socially ostracized. The best scenes are those between Ricci and her mother. The sub-plots (about Pumpkin and his mother, about the boyfriend, about showing real emotion in writing poetry for class, etc.) are weak. Overall the movie does not work, insofar as Ricci's very strong feelings for Pumpkin seem to arise largely out of looking at his hair. But it is worth watching for some superb scenes. Finally, and most importantly, the SONGS are wonderful in this movie. I am just disappointed that there doesn't appear to be a soundtrack CD.

Summary: A funny, touching, realistic, out-there movie!
Review: Pumpkin is one of the few triumphs on film that I have seen in recent years. It is at once silly, warm, thought-provoking and very true to human nature. Hank Harris portrays Pumpkin with such quiet dignity and beauty that you cant help falling in love with him. Christina Ricci shines as Caroline, you can't decide through the whole film whether you want to slap her or befriend her and you end up liking it that way. I found myself wanting these two to get together at the end so badly that I was on pins and needles. Though I would not call the story line taboo, it is out of the ordinary, very well done and puts across a very important point: Love is love and it is never wrong.

Summary: She looks REALLY GOOD. The rest of it doesn't.
Review: Hard to know exactly what made this one fall apart: the writing, the direction, or the editing? My guess is that it's a little bit of all three. What is admittedly an interesting premise gets pretty much ruined by a completely botched pace. Everybody's sense of right and wrong does a complete 180 at the same moment, but I'll be darned if I can say why. Oh well. It beats Desert Blue.

Summary: absolutley amazing
Review: anyone who votes otherwise can not truley see the beauty of anything. this movie was hillarious, dark, gentle and entertaining all rolled into one. I absolutley loved it along with everyone else who watched it with me. Christina did a wonderful job, her best yet! Go see it and eat the beauty of Pumpkin all up.

Summary: Horrid
Review: This movie is awful. Yeah, I understand what it's about, and yeah it's funny at times. However, the only thing that could save this horrible movie would have been to put Dominique Swain in the role of Caroline McDuffy. And the only reason I gave it 2 stars was b/c of her. This movie got worse and worse as it went on, and I can't believe I spent the money and time to rent it and sit through the god-awful 2 hours it took to finish it. The idea of the movie is different, granted, but it didn't have to be told in such a stupid way.

Summary: HAS THE POWER TO OFFEND JUST ABOUT ANYONE IF YOU LET IT.
Review: I'm sorry but I have to say if Carolyn McDuffy (Christina Ricci) was in her 2nd term as president I doubt we'd be at war right now. Like a song sung out of tune "Pumpkin" tells the story of a said to be [mentally challenged] boy (Hank Harris) who becomes inspired by a young girl who is smart and also quite beautiful. She is a huge part of her schools A.O.Pi sorority. How is it that one tries to do what's right and everything goes all wrong for them? Ricci is undeniably lovable in another great film to her credit. Marisa Coughlan is also likably nasty as the most hypercritical sorority sister. I enjoyed this film for a # of different reasons.. 1. It's honest although not likely to pan out the way it did. 2. Hopefully it will help alot of blind people to look beyond. 3. Also it is a daring movie that doesn't care if you like or dislike it, it just is what it is. I recommend this movie to those that believe they have an open mind, and don't become offened when they are seen and verbalized on screen..not liking how others may see them.

Summary: As Delicious as Pumpkin Pie
Review: Yay!
This movie was super-ridiculous, super-funny, and super-cute. Christina Ricci plays an outrageous character and delivers her lines in the cutest, earnest ways, that just make you laugh.
The storyline is sweet and ... well, just ridiculous.
You must have a sense of humor to watch this movie... and you also must be able to appreciate satire.
Anyone who's ever had an "inappropriate" relationship for some reason or another... can appreciate this film.

YaY!

Summary: don't go in with expectations
Review: the problem with most reviewers is that they walk into the theater expecting christina ricci to do a perfect job with this film, for it to be an indie film, for it to be a romantic comedy, for it to be off-beat.

completely objective? then you'll love it.

Summary: ...Who can you laugh at?
Review: First off, a minor correction for the offical review of this film. These two may be first time co-directors, but this wasn't their first film. They're the writing team behind "Dead Man on Campus".

And no, a lot of people aren't going to like this movie. If you liked "But I'm a Cheerleader", you'll probably love it. I did. The characters are drawn in much the same way: earnest, but completely lunatic.

The subject matter is also, like 're-orienting' queerfolk, generally considered not appropriate comedy material, and as such, there are some folks who will hate this movie no matter how the subject is approached, because there "just isn't anything funny about the mentally disabled". I thought it did a good job of staying between the sort of flat-out mean fun that "Something About Mary" made of disabled kids, and the smarmy "our poor wounded angels" attitude so many people adopt when portraying the mentally disabled. This movie treats their subjects like normal people - some of them are mean, some of them are nice, some of them are better than others.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Very funny (for people with good/weird sense of humor)
Review: This movie made me laugh / cry a little (my eyes tend to leak a little fairly easily though) / think about some of what they said afterward -- I'm still laughing today when I think about different parts of the movie, and purchasing it today (I rented it yesterday)
