Rating: Summary: Doesn't age well Review: I thought this movie was made in the 80's when I recently watched it, but low and behold its early 90's (although an arguement can be made that early 90's is still the 80's). Anyway, I rented this a couple nights ago after reading other amazon reviews about how this movie is so terrifying and so on... I'm afraid I can't agree. Now maybe I've just been spoiled with such good horror such as 28 days later and the ring, but this movie did not age well. I think it completely falls apart when the kid goes BACK to the house after escaping to rescue that girl. I found myself saying... "no movie, please end, don't go back to the house! I don't want to sit through another half-hour!" The mom and dad were pretty annoying. The comedy fell on its face most of the time...
Rating: Summary: Classic Cult Horror Review: I have been waiting soooo long for this movie to be released on DVD. This bizarre horror film has a very dark side similiar to Flowers In The Attic but also a comic side. This is one of my all time favorite films.
Rating: Summary: Under the stairs-underrated Review: This is a great movie. It has everything you can want for a horror movie, gore, action, comedy, suspense. There is no nudity, well no need for it. Just picture a couple(man and woman) who are cannibals with a bunch of kids they kidnapped living in their basement. They kill anyone woh comes by the house and feed them to the kids. They have a scene(which may disturb some) that they show the gutting of a human being. so if you have a week stomach then you may not enjoy this. but it's not that bad. My dad hates horror movies but enjoyed this one. Of course it's not for everyone. my advice is always this: RENT BEFORE YOU BUY!
Rating: Summary: Way too real! Review: I love horror films. They are so funny and unrealistic. This one was not. It is just far too easy to imagine that there might be people like this living down the block. They might have been a little crazy, but they looked sane to the world just like so many real nuts do.There were some logistical problems (such as were do you find food when you are stuck between the walls), but overall this was actually a scary film (I can think of only four movies that I have ever felt that way about). The film is about a couple who seem normal, but take a distinctly non-normal stance regarding visitors. If you have seen that comedy/horror film about the parents and the leftovers (what were they before they were leftovers? Leftovers to be), then some of the scenes will be a little familiar. After watching this one you may begin to wonder about some of your so-called normal neighbors.
Rating: Summary: MY favorite Movie Of all Time No Question Review: This Movie is my favorite. I am obssesed with it. I wish I was in the movie. I have it on VHS and have been praying for it to come out on dvd.I let people borrow it and they all end up saying they love it or it was a bad movie and was great to watch. It is a horror/comic flix. BUY IT!!!! IT is worth my house to me.
Rating: Summary: DVD DVD DVD PLEASE! Review: This is probably one of the greatest horror movies of all time, atleast thats what I believe. How can they justify putting 1980's B movies on DVD, but not this movie? I don't even know who "they" are, but please, for the love of film and everything holy, give us a People Under the Stairs DVD and pronto.
Rating: Summary: Fo Rizzle, and maybe the president will make me secretary Review: In this tour de force, I only had the urge to vomit twice. Quite possibly, this "film" is the most misunderstood gem to come from the Craven camp, which definitely says a lot. Its themes of people living under the stairs and ethnic diversity are a constant [hit] in the face that reminds the viewer to ask him or herself why did he or she pick this movie. Out of all the memorable moments, my personal favorite is the "father's" hunting outfit, which is slightly reminiscent of the gimp in pulp fiction. Kudos to Craven on that scary image. In all seriousness, if I learned one thing from this movie it is that some day we all can rise above our oppressors, even if they are incestuous maniacs... especially if you don't watch this movie!
Rating: Summary: DVD Please! Review: This is probably (along Serpent and the Rainbow and NOES) one of Craven's finest horror films. I can't figure out why the pointless and turgid "Last House on the Left" is on DVD with extras while this isn't! Where's the dvd guys!?
