Summary: Vastly underrated dark comedy
Review: Too, too bad that this marvelously wicked comedy didn't get the respect it deserves when it was originally released. Ben Stiller captured a unique modern nightmare: having the strained small talk we exchange with the cable guy, plumber or repairman inadvertantly turn into an invitation for a full-fledged friendship. Jim Carey's performance is a tour de force that works on multiple levels. Carey's notrious and spectacular over-the-top antics are beautifully combined with subtle emotional nuances. One moment it's so funny that you cry; the next it's so sad that you laugh. Carey conveys much more depth here than you've seen in his other roles without moderating his comic genius. Matthew Broderick plays the perfect straight man. Frequently the funniest moments are his horrified reactions to Carey's outrageousness. Look for hilarious cameos by Owen Wilson and the guy from "High Fidelity."

Review: Defanatly not Carrey's best role and movie but does has it's moments.
He is a Cable Guy who didnt get much attention and didnt have many friends as a child and spent most of his life in front of a tv.Poor Mat Brodrick ends up his friend which turns into total chaos for him.It was nothing great but still worth a watch.I strongly recommend for you to hire this as it could not be your style of movie.Jim carrey's fans will appreciate it though.But most of them would consider other of his films such as Dumb and Dumber which is 1 of the greatest movies ever! All in all it could have been better but like i said it does have its moments.It is worth watching but i dont really know about buying, but that is up for you to decide!

Review: Depsite being shunned by mainstream media because Ben Stiller paid Jim Carrey 20 million bucks, this classic dark comedy highlights Carrey's comedy genius. Playing strung-out wanna-be TV repairman, chip douglas, carrey carries the pathetic role perfectly. He is so needy and basic in this film, it hurts. From showing up at the gym uninvited, to wanting to show steven the mega-antenna and 'how it all works,' to throwing 'the best damn karaoke jam ... ever!" ... chip douglas is a pitiful character, but only because carrey played him that way. The scene where he puts the chicken skin on his face....impromptu. Don't listen to the pundits, this is some of Jim Carrey's best work. A great addition to any library.

Summary: Comic masterpiece & frightening commentary on TV generation
Review: The first time I saw this film, I thought it was OK, if a little creepy. Then one day I was in the video store and inexplicably wanted to see it again. I remember paying and thinking "This movie was just OK, why am I getting this again?!" That night I laughed until it hurt. I have since learned to stomach the creepiness and feel this is one of the best movies of the 1990s. The Cable Guy (Carrey) was an only child raised by the TV. That is what is real to him. Everything he says, does, and wears can be traced to some rerun or game show or whatever. Scarey, yes, but mostly because of how frightfully on target the humor is. Watching this movie is like stepping into a shallow puddle and finding yourself suddenly under water. What seems like shallow/silly slapstick masks something deep and frightening and always very funny. I think this is Jim Carrey's comic masterpiece, though Ben Stiller's directing is surely responsible for much of the brilliant madness. Many folks hated this film, but time will tell...

Review: The Cable Guy is one of the most underappreciated movies I have come accross in some time, well, ever. This may take a few times before its genious truly shines. (That's why you buy a movie, isn't it?, to see it more than once) Stars a lot of guys now famous for their humor; Jack Black, Andy Dick, Janine Garafolo.

Review: I can't believe that the critics hated this movie. In my humble opinion, this is one of Carrey's best acting roles. You'll love the basketball game scene. I could barely control my laughter when Carrey drove to the basket and dunked after jumping onto another player's back. Carrey then uttered the classic line "I've never done a slam dunk before. Thanks for the boost." You'll also love the bathroom scene. I don't want to spoil it for you right here. In short, the movie is funny, the acting is great, and the story really flows (except for the ending). The casual viewer will empathize for Chip Douglas (Carrey) by the end of the movie.

Review: Cable guy is very funny. It's about this guy who gets free cable from a bumbling and crazy cable guy. (carrey.) The cable guy's name is chip. Once he meets the guy, he won't lrave him alone. He inturupts his personal life. He gets involved with his family and his ex-girlfriend. Anyway, it's a good movie. Buy the DVD version, it's much better and easier to take care of. Buy it.

Summary: Dark Satire That First Proved Carrey's Acting Prowess
Review: I have to admit, I wasn't much of a Jim Carrey fan when THE CABLE GUY was released. Sure, I was familiar with Carrey's work on "In Living Color" and I liked DUMB AND DUMBER and the Ace Ventura movies for what they were, but I thought I had seen everything Carrey had to offer as an entertainer and as an actor. Apparently, so did everyone else. Except, when they saw Carrey's twisted performance in THE CABLE GUY, they were disappointed, while I sat up in my seat and thought "Wow, I really underestimated this guy." This was the first time I ever considered Jim Carrey a serious actor, and a pretty good one at that. But Carrey is still fighting that "goofy comedian" tag even today. Remember his Oscar snubs after a great performance in THE TRUMAN SHOW and especially after his absolutely jaw-dropping reincarnation of Andy Kaufman in MAN ON THE MOON? Carrey does have an enormous amount of acting talent -- even if audiences won't accept it and critics won't admit it. Why people STILL consider this one a failure, I simply do not know -- a brilliantly edgy performance from Carrey, a solid straight man in Matthew Broderick, a tremendous script with a plot that keeps you involved throughout, and sharp direction from Ben Stiller (Ben's the real reason I saw THE CABLE GUY in the first place...). Just a terrific movie that's actually pretty daring for a major studio release. While most Hollywood movies are willing to ride on action or starpower alone, THE CABLE GUY actually manages to carry a message, too -- a warning against the danger of too much of a good thing (in this case, television). Satire aside, the best part of THE CABLE GUY remains Carrey's double-edged performance. On one hand, Chip Douglas (Jim Carrey) is a creepy, twisted, vengeful psychopath. On the other hand, Chip is a sad, lonely, vulnerable figure whose life has been shaped almost entirely by the culture of television. He spends most of the movie being the aggressor, but, by the end, it is clear he's really a victim. The fact that Carrey can play a raving psychotic and a sympathetic victim and still manage to make it funny should prove how talented he truly is. There just aren't too many other actors who could have made this role work. Jim does it effortlessly. If you throw away all of your preconceptions about Jim Carrey (good or bad), you're in for a real treat. Definitely worth your time.
