Summary: Jim Carry is so funny!
Review: Lots of people say that this movie was bad, I'm not talking about the amazon.com reviewers because the average rating is 4 stars but there are many people besides them who say this movie was a total waste of money. Even in an episode of "The Simpsons", Homer said that this movie nearly ruined Jim Carrey's career and then rips up the original Cable Guy script. Even at amazon.com, it you go to the movie "Liar Liar", it says that "Liar Liar" made up for a disappointing "Cable Guy". But I liked this movie. Anyway here is how the movie is.
Matthew Broderick plays Steven, a man who recently got dumped by his girlfriend, Robin (Leslie Mann) and kicked out of her home but they do not totally hate each other, they are just not a couple. While Steven is moving in his new place all he wants is just some cable. When the cable guy (Jim Carrey) installs his cable Steven becomes his "Preferred Customer". The Cable guy seems to be a little weird. One he is a huge movie and TV freak about everything that has been shown on TV and is very generous to Steve. He is so generous that gives Steven free stuff like the cable, didn't cost Steve a dime, and gave him a totally new entertainment center. Steven's friend, Rick (Jack Black from "Shallow Hal") notices that there is something not right about this cable and wants to find out what it is. Anyway after Seven finds out that the cable guy or "Chip Douglas" as he says his name is does something real terrible and horrible to him, Steven wants him to get out his life. After the cable guy starts tries to make things up , Steven knows he can't have room in his life for another friend and tries to get Chip to understand in a friendly way. But although Steven didn't mean any harm when he said that, that is when the horror starts. First Chip gets the police to arrest Steve because that new entertainment center he had seems to be stolen! And then Chip makes him look stupid in jail, gets him fired from his job, makes him look like an ... in front of his family, and ruins his relationship with Robin. What makes this more ironic is that Rick finds out that Chip doesn't even work for the Cable Company and his name isn't even Chip! Who is this guy? What does he want? Why is he stalking Steven?
As you can see, "The Cable Guy" is a very twisted and bizarre movie but hilarious. It will make you laugh, Even my mom laughed at this movie but she usually hates Jim Carry. I really recommend you buying this movie

Review: I remember seeing this movie in theaters. I also remember forcing myself to laugh at the humorless jokes so that I would not feel that I wasted my money on the ticket. The entire theater was silent with the exception of a few chuckles. Now, call me crazy, but I think that means this movie stinks.

Summary: Missunderstood
Review: In my opinion this is one Jim Carrey's greatest acheivments, but was missunderstood by the public. In this dark comedy a psycotic cable installer Chip Douglas wishes to befriend his most recent custom Steven Kovacs, played by Matthew Brodderick. The problem is Chip Douglas, played by Jim Carey, was raised by the Television and in his life television and reallity have merged with each other, causing him to have a very warped view of freindship. As you get further into the movie the actions of Chip Douglas become increasingly disturbing, but at the same time funny. This comedy is not for all but if you are a Jim Carey fan and like different commedies then this is the movie for you.

Summary: Ben Stiller is a genious
Review: The Cable Guy is one of the funniest movie's that I've ever seen. Jim Carrey is hilarious and does a damn good job with the role. Matthew Brodrick plays his role really well. The reason this movie isn't that popular is because the humor was spoon fed to the auidence like Ace Ventura was. There is a lot to look out for in this flick.

Summary: Hilarious Dark Comedy
Review: I know that a lot of people did not like this movie and that it recieved some harsh criticism. However, I felt like this was one of the funniest movies in a long time and still consider it hilarious. Jim Carey plays Chip Douglas, an unstable man that has been raised on television and currently works for a cable company. The dialogue and contrasting styles of Jim Carey and Matthew Broderick are great. Broderick wants to find love and success in his work, but finds that Carey wants to be buddies with him following a routine cable service. What makes this movie a winner in my mind is that it is a dark comedy aimed at showing how much television exploits the average American person's mind. Some of the funniest scenes are of Ben Stiller and his court case that appear on television, and the depiction of the average person's craving to follow a murder case. It is disturbing at times, but this is not a movie that takes itself too seriously. Finally, Carey plays his role as a cable guy to perfection, and some of the funniest parts of the movie are just his zany antics. For instance, he takes Broderick to see Medievel Times (it is obvious that Carey has been there many times) and they wind up having their names chosen as the two to perform a jousting competition to the many in attendance. I think it's a fun movie, but it is a movie that uses dark comedy to achieve its points.

Summary: Jim Carrey as Obnoxious Bully didn't work for me!
Review: When I heard that Jim Carrey had recently turned down a $20M movie deal because "the script didn't meet with his approval", my immediate question was WHY in the world would he ACCEPT the offer to star in THIS TURKEY??? I respect Jim Carrey's talent and many samples of his work, but this film left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. Carrey's character, a psychotic cable installer who stalks a customer and bullies him into being "pals" is scary to say the least. The string of arm-twists and choke-holds Carrey had for his pal, a very reluctant Matthew Broderick were unfunny and disturbing. The plot seemed aimless and bizarre, and there was no "pay off" in the conclusion. This film is forgettable! Save your money and your time, this one isn't worth it!**

Summary: The overacting guy.
Review: "Spoof" of legitimate thrillers such as *Bad Influence* or even *Single White Female*, movies in which a sudden and unlooked-for friendship becomes a little too close for comfort for the saner person in the relationship. In *The Cable Guy*, the saner half is played by Matthew Broderick, a young urban professional who has recently been kicked out of his fiancee's apartment and is now living alone. He decides to install cable in his new place. Enter Jim Carrey as the Cable Guy, who for most of the movie uses the nom de plume "Chip Douglas", taken from the 60's TV show *My Three Sons*. It's revealed in a flashback that Chip was -- big shock -- neglected as a child, and was basically raised by the boob tube. Like, by the way, EVERYBODY ELSE born during and after the 50's, but whatever. If we settle for director Ben Stiller's lazy psychological guesswork, then I suppose we're all "cable guys". At any rate, Chip, sensing vulnerability from Broderick's character, latches onto the poor sap like a bad case of athlete's foot -- at first aggressively asserting his "friendship", and then aggressively wreaking vengeance on Broderick once the latter tells him to get lost. This is not a terrible movie by default, but Jim Carrey makes it one with his insufferably out-of-control performance. From the instant Chip appears, he's not the least bit believable, even as a joke. (If jokes weren't believable, they wouldn't be funny.) When this movie came out, much was made of Carrey's $20 million-per-movie asking price: while that shouldn't have anything to do with what we see onscreen in this movie, one can't help but wonder if Carrey's "cost" -- which was probably half this film's budget -- dictated the manner in which he's allowed to run riot, here. I mean, what? -- was little Ben Stiller going to tell this guy to calm down? Much like the characters in the movie, the cast and crew of *The Cable Guy* seem burdened with an overbearing personality who, in the last analysis, simply won't shut the hell up. Oh, and by the way: when Stiller blessedly gets the camera OFF Carrey, the best he can do is make tired comments about media saturation, sensationalist TV, etc. I don't need Ben Stiller to tell me that television is crass.

Summary: Very Funny Movie
Review: This is one of Jim Carrey's best, although it did not get the best ratings. I think it is because it is such a weird plot that critics didn't feel he did a good job. I however think that this movie is great and the story is very well written and Jack Black is in it. How much better does it get than that.

Summary: Becareful who you chit chat with......
Review: .....he might just be the Boogeyman! Who hasn't thought the cable guy was a hunk and struck up idle conversation to find out more about him? Or talked to the plumber or maintenance guy. Pity poor Matthew Broderick (War Games) who thought he was just being polite but then gets forced into a friendship that is much more than he bargained for. I am a lover of dark comedies and this really fills the bill on that count. The only recent black comedy that does as well is Death to Smoochy. I am surprised by Jim Carrey's performance which is so powerful it carries the film. What he won't do (or undo) for a friend. I've recently been viewing Jim's work from The Mask to The Majestic and am impressed with his talent. This film is a great showcase for his talent and perhaps just a bit too "dark" for some viewers. Maybe mothers should take heed and "kill the babysitter" (TV) so their sons won't grow up like that! I'm gonna be careful the next time my cable guy has to stop by. The hunk could be another CABLE GUY.
