Summary: Not that good
Review: I'm a big Kevin Smith fan, and this movie is good based on the fact that he did it alone, but frankly after his brilliant first three films this one was a bit of a letdown. The hilarious dialogue that I loved in his other movies just seemed to be missing in this one, and the plot was also a lot more serious than the dysfunctional love stories of the first three. However, there were funny moments in the film (Affleck and Damon were great as the two angels), and Jay & Silent Bob were awesome as usual, its good to see them featured this much in the movie. However, if you liked this film, check out Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy and see just how much better Kevin Smith really gets.

Summary: If you like Kevin Smith you'll enjoy Dogma
Review: This is not "The Ten Commandments", this is a movie by the guy who made Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy. If you are expecting some epic religious picture and seeking enlightenment, go elsewhere. If instead you are looking for a highly entertaining picture with some great dialogue and smart, yet juvenile humor, you are in the right place. And if you are a true fan, this is the DVD to get, just look at the extras! Deleted scenes, 3 commentaries - Kevin Smith works hard to let his fans into his movie making process, and he always does a great job. A great addition to any collection.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: Truly thought provoking and amusing. Though not in Kevin Smiths usual style (see Chasing Amy, Mallrats and Clerks), it has the same wonderful dialogue that fans have come to know and love, plus Jay and Silent Bob.

The DVD is wonderful, it has many interesting features, that I believe DVD's today are lacking.

The Movie though is truly wonderful, well-written, well cast and doesn't go for the easy joke. Well Done!

Summary: DogMAA will you buy me this DVD for my birthday?
Review: Dogma was funny from beginning to end, there were totally angels in it, the angels were funny angels and jay and silent bob were funny too, the angels had no private parts so that made them very angry because of the fact that they had none. Ben Affleck was good in it Jason Mewes was good and when the last scion came into it she had to stop the angels from getting into heaven because the world would end if they did and Ben Affleck and Matt Damon wouldn't be able to make any more super groovy movies like Pearl Harbor and Legend OF Bagger Vance and Black Stallion 2. I like the best part when matt damon is drinkin beer at the end cuz hes happy that he can get drunk again and he's just chillin and wobbling all over and then alanis comes down from heaven and since she's not a good singer her voice hurts ben affleck and his head breaks open and then the movie is over. I love this movie it's the best one that came out in the longest time.

Summary: the worst of the 4
Review: First, I love Kevin Smith. He's the reason I decided to become a filmmaker. However, Dogma didn't equal his other 3 films. The reason I think is simple. He wrote this film first of the 4, but he waited to make it. And the story just isn't as strong as the other 3. It doesn't draw you in. Chris rock isn't good in his role and neither is Linda florentino. Jay as always is hilarious. He steals the movie.

It's not the controversy that is the center of this film, but the slow parts. If it wasn't for Alan rickman, a lot of this film would be very boring. He was wonderful. I recommend this film to anyone, but only a true Kevin smith fan should buy the DVD. Me, I'm waiting for the Criterion Collection Dogma DVD.

Summary: Outrageously funny
Review: Kevin Smith writes great dialogue and this movie is no exception. The religious content makes you think a little bit, but for the most part you'll be laughing, provided that you take the digs Smith takes at the Catholic Church and Christianity in stride. While I felt the movie dipped a bit in quality at the end, overall this is one of the funniest movies of the year.

Review: It has its funny moments, but overall a big disappointment. Do not invest in the DVD before you see the movie.

Summary: One of the most in-depth comdies I have ever seen.
Review: Dogma has to be one of the most in-depth comedies I have seen. The Director, Kevin Smith has made a comedy that not only makes you laugh but also question what modern Religon is all about. The begining of Dogma states that you the viewer should not base your beleif in a higher bieng simply on a movie. Dogma also states in the opening sequence that people shouldn't be so serious about religon, that God has a sense of humor, look at the Platypus. This is just my opion on a movie that I have recently seen so if this helps you great, if it does not oh well.

Summary: Ho hum!! How juvenal can we get
Review: I looked forward to seeing this movie and cannot begin to tell you how absolutely b-o-r-i-n-g it turned out to be!! The concept has a hole that you could drive a Mac truck thru, and the execution is embarrassing to all concerned. By the time I was half-way through the movie, I really didn't care one way or the other. Even the jokes were on a tenth-grade mind level. Oh well, it gets one star (instead of none) because they were smart enough to keep Morisette from opening her mouth!

Summary: Heretical but Funny and Poignant
Review: I watched Dogma the first time and then had to watch it a second time! The plot is involved and fresh with questions of religion, why we are here and existance but never once questioning the essential existance and nature of God. Ben Affleck as Bartleby is wonderful going from a being just wanting to go home, to a lunatic intent on revenge to a pilgrim asking for and receiving peace from God.

This movie made me laugh and cry and think, all at the same time. In my book, there can be no better combination in a movie.

If you are not prepared for a biting satire, don't watch this movie. But if you love and understand satire as the ultimate tool for self examination, well maybe this movie isn't for you either. Personally, I thought it was just a wonderful romp!!
