Summary: Kevin Smith, No Kubric/Stone/Scorcese/ but still cool.
Review: A lot of nay-sayers ... this movie. But I thought it was very comical, witty, and a grand slag at Catholicism. Hurrah for that let me just say right now. Chris Rock is cool as Rufus, the 13th Apostile.. You knew Jesus? Rock: Knew him? ... owes me 9 bucks!" sooo funny. Jason Lee needs to be in more FUNNY movies like this, and the previous Smith efforts. what were his other movies? I saw Heartbreakers, and he was all wishy washy smiles and puppy dog eyes. Lee, i guess you are not getting any good scripts my man, 'cause that was terrible! anyways, all I would take out of the movie is that ... Alanis Morrisette as God. Norm McDonald should have been God, cause well, he is. Peace. and I'll SEE YOU ...

Summary: Save your money
Review: I bought this due to the cast. I thought, Gee- with a cast like this, how bad can it be. Answer- awfully bad...terrible, in fact. I've heard so many people rave about this flick, I thought I had to check it out...I was wrong. Word to the wise, save your hard earned cash- buy something funny.

Linda Fiorentino- whom I adore, was awful. The problem isn't her acting, it's just that the dialogue is so poorly written that it seems to be a struggle for her to pull it off with any creditability or conviction. It's just too over the top.

The rest of the cast played their parts as ok as could be expected, especially considering the terrible lines. I just couldn't force myself to find this film funny- no matter how hip indie film lovers found it.

In sum, ridiculous story, strained dialogue and performances, and the humor was somewhat predictable- like Beavis and Butthead hijinks. Save your money.

Summary: Just so you know...
Review: Kevin Smith always does a phenomenal job of putting extras and whatever he can on his DVDs as he understands what fans want because he's a fan himself.

I'll let the other reviews speak for the movie.

Just so everyone knows, the documentary "Judge Not: In Defense Of Dogma" is NOT on this DVD and it will never be officially released (well, never say never) due to mob-like tactics from Disney. The Doc was good and very informative. I didn't think it was all that bad, but you know how Disney are... They won't even make DVD's that are compliant to the DVD standard. Why? Because they are Disney, that's why!

Anyway. Great movie. Top Notch extras (again). No Doc.

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT.

Summary: Immensely Entertaining
Review: This movie has enough content to satisfy viewers through a good dozen viewings. The acting is delightful and Linda Fiorentino delivers with her bewildered cynicism and subtle spot-on facial expressions. Alanis Morissette plays God with wit and grace. Fun fun cinema.

Summary: Good ideas... but flawed in execution
Review: Dogma has some funny moments and contains the kernel of a good film, but unfortunately these are lost in the loose direction and slack editing. There are quite a few plot problems and they are never really resolved properly. A few more months in the editing suite may have worked wonders for this film, but overall it was very disappointing.

Ed Wood would've been proud.

Summary: The Best Film Of 99'
Review: I thought Dogma was, single handidly, the most surreal, funniest and thought-provoking film I have seen in ages. Linda Fiorentino does the greatest performance of her career, Ben and Matt portray very believable characters, Chris Rock, as usual, is funnier than ever, Salma Hayek as a sultry muse does a grade A job, silent Bob and Jay are two of the funniest duos in movie history, Jeneane Garofalo, small role but big laughs-LOVE HER! and of course, the most beautiful, talented, gifted singer of the 90's: Alanis Morissette. SEE THIS MOVIE! YOU'LL LOVE IT.

Summary: Hypocritical forced dogma
Review: I Love Kevin Smith's first three films. A Lot! I truly believe that Dogma BLOWS!

Many people think this movie blasts the Catholic church. I dislike this movie for the opposite reason. I think this film kisses the church's butt. This movie is SOOO preachy. His basic point in making the film was to say "I disagree with the Catholic church's sexist, racist, and bigoted practices...but since I'm was born a Catholic, I'll remain one, and you are all going to hell for not believing." What a load of bull!

I walked out of this film with three friends, and we were all quiet. Finally, one said, "Uuuuh, Jay and Silent Bob were funny...I guess." It was so painful. We all tried to like it, but it was so damn preachy.

If you're not Catholic (I'm not), then this movie is NOT for you.

Summary: All this with Jay and Silent Bob, too.
Review: What if two fallen angels found a loophole that could get them back into heaven? Now what if that same loophole might just cause the destruction of the entire universe?

That's the premise of this wonderful movie. (And don't believe the rumors you've heard about blasphemy and damnation for all that see it!)

With plenty of theological "inside jokes" to keep any Catholic school graduate enthralled, the plot, action and dialog all make this a very enjoyable and compelling film. Truly comical. Truly intellectual (Hey! don't let that put you off!). But mostly, truly enjoyable.

If you liked Jay and Silent Bob from Mall Rats, you'll love this film!
