Summary: Wonderful, whitty, well thought out, and wacky
Review: Perhaps I need to find more words that start in W, but I must say that I loved every minute of Wag The Dog, the satire and commentary involved (and the DVD features including more on the political world) are fantastic.

Summary: Glad We Didn't See it at the Theatre
Review: My wife and I never got around to seeing this movie at the theatre, even though we wanted to do so. Good thing. Finally, we rented it and were pretty disappointed. It was a good idea, but the movie seemed like a bunch of clever lines loosely wrapped into a disjointed roll of celluloid. And while I know much of the Washington political scene doesn't make sense, a lot of this movie made no logistical sense; i.e., surviving a plane crash, Woody Harrelson's background going undetected by the nosy media, etc. Perhaps the movie was just a vehicle to put Hoffman and DeNiro (or DeNiro and Hoffman) together. All in all, a letdown.

Summary: A star of 1997 video haven.
Review: Having lost dozens of millions of people in XX century, people in Russia now very well, what does duty political games mean. "Wag the Dog" is one of the smartest movie I've ever seen. Brilliant sense of humor. De Niro & Hoffman were just perfect.

Actually, I was not surprised at all at negative reviews. Unless the modern political life is quite similar with the one showed in the movie, such film must collect controversial opinions. Thank you for the masterpiece.

Summary: Realistic and excellent film on the dirty works of politics
Review: If anyone is interested in what politics really is about, he/she should see this film. It is so grotesque that at times viewers do not want believe it! But with everything we see nowadays happening in the world, the only conclusion we may come to is that we are being fooled by those in power. Not that we can really do anything about it... Nevertheless, the film gives great insight into how such schemes can (and may) be planned.

Summary: Depressing movie with no positive protagonist
Review: I've been disappointed by movies before. At times I've felt as though I wasted my two hours and money. But rarely do I feel absolutely disgusted and depressed from a film. This counts as one of those times. There's no hero in this movie. Not one person whose actions seem admirable, or at least neutral. These characters are simply out to betray the populace and the office of the Presidency for the sake of one mans' campaign. Primary Colors had a similar theme, but it succeeded where Wag the Dog failed. It presented a full view of the President in question, and that man had some strong redeeming qualities. Also, Primary Colors had it's fair share of characters who were appalled at the President's behavior. In Wag the Dog, no main character seems to have the slightest dought about their campaign of deceit. Meanwhile, they're easily able to invent a war and pull the wool over the public's eyes. I understand that, as a comedy, the audience isn't expected to accept the characters as role models. Nevertheless, I was unable to suspend disbelief in the plot, and I was left feeling hollow inside from the lack of any character to identify with.

Summary: I love it!
Review: I love it! It is one of the best movie I have ever seen. Lines are shining with wisdom and brilliance, and the message is pretty powerful. It is definitely ironic that this movie came first and Ms. Lewinsky followed after.

Summary: A real lemon of a great idea.
Review: Just about everything that needs to be said about how BAD this movie is has already been said. What this movie was was a great funny idea turned sour by a lot of Hollywood goofing off. I had the feeling I was at some Beverly Hills charades party. Face it. If unknowns had acted out this tale on the silver screen it would have gone unnoticed. If you are a Dustin Hoffmann fan there might be some worth to watching this, but frankly I wanted my money back after seeing this p.o.s. A sad waste of a wonderful idea. Well, truth isn't just stranger than fiction - it's better. BORING!

Summary: Wag the Dog wasn't very funny
Review: I watched Wag the Dog due to all the great reviews it received, and what do I get in return? A horrible movie! Great talent was wasted on such a humorless script. The idea is fine, but it went to no direction. Primary Colors, a film similar to Wag the Dog, is definitely much better.

Summary: Where was the movie?
Review: I had heard such great things about this movie, that I was actually looking forward to seeing it on the rainy night that I rented it. But when the closing credits rolled, I wasn't sure that what I had just seen could even be classified as a movie. The plot dragged endlessly, it was humorless, dark, and depressing, and I honestly felt for the actors, because as brilliant as they are, they should never have been saddled with this disaster. Don't bother.

Summary: It Depends...
Review: Is it good? Is it bad? If you like watching news shows and follow the headlines, you'll appreciate this film. If you like the actors, you'll think they could've done better. If you hate politics and everything surrounding it, this film will help you hate it all more. If you hate the popular media and how they latch onto any story and report anything, you'll hate them more after you see this - and you should. It's an eye-opener. It could be real; we'd never know. If that kind of thing intrigues you, it's a film for you.
