Summary: Are you people MAD?
Review: This movie is terrible. The plot is less of a story and more of an excuse! The mind numbing ridiculousness of the "effects" (the are colored lights which are portrayed as aliens) and the poor, muffled sound quality make this movie the poorest I've ever seen. The only reason why it gets one star is the conversation with the bomb at the end, which even i must admit, was funny.

Summary: The Dr.Strangelove of Sci-fi films!
Review: This is probably a statement bordering on critical blasphemy, but John Carpenter's DARK STAR is a genuine sci-fi satire grand opus! What Stanley Kubrick magnificently achieves in Dr. Stangelove, Carpenter sort-of-magnificently achieves in Dark Star. If you're a fan of science fiction films, you know of the epic and awesome MONSTER FROM THE ID. Well, Dark Star's alien creature also needs to be "confronted" to be believed. (Don't let the fact that it looks like a BEACHBALL deceive you...this is a malignant force to be reckoned with!) Gene Rodenberry's STAR TREK crews have nothing in common with these galactic dud(e)s, but the dialogues with THE BOMB would test the wits of both Mr. Spock and Data. This film was allegedly made on a shoe-string budget that would not even pay for the opening sequence in a James Bond film. But...the effects are effective and the story...like all great satires...provokes some afterthought (not too much...)and mucho laughs. Too bad Carpenter didn't pursue this genre more often (THEY LIVE is a sci-fi satire of his "mature" years and is, I think, his best film). The Apocalyptic conclusion to the film should satisfy sci-fi fans and video-game addicts alike. See it...it is a special film that puts inferior efforts like MORONS FROM SPACE to abject shame......

Summary: The best sci-fi C&W song ever
Review: The other reviews sum it up pretty well: a great parody by future major filmmakers, made for fifty bucks in 1970. But I will always love this movie for the credit sequences, which are set to "Benson, Arizona," the greatest science-fiction country and western song of all time:

Benson, Arizona / The warm wind in my hair /My body flies the galaxy / My heart yearns to be there / Benson, Arizona / The stars up in the sky / But they seemed so much warmer / When we watched them, you and I...

There's also a stanza about time-space dilation effect, which I can't remember offhand...but I hope some musical artist will rescue that song someday from Z-movie obscurity!

Summary: Dark Star is a strange and fun movie.
Review: John Carpenter does a great job on Dark Star in which a group of astronauts on a mission to blow up any unstable plannets have a ton of bomb problems. Bomb 20 get's a mind of its own and starts causing the crew big trouble. The ending is strange but satisfying. A John Carpenter masterpiece.

Summary: A great B Si Fi Movie!
Review: This is one of the funniest B movie Science Fiction movies I've come across! And so hard to find at video stores! I highly recomend it for those who like this kind of movie. The smart bomb is the best part of the movie!

Summary: Seriously twisted delight of a movie!
Review: You have a dead, frozen commander telling another officer to discuss phenomenology with a sentient talking bomb. Need I say more?

Summary: Pretty Good
Review: Dark Star is Director John Carpenter's first feature film. This strange talky film deals with four astronauts in deep space, who destroy unstable planets. Something goes wrong with one of their bombs. This film is somewhat dated and the unexpected ending catches you by surprise. Low budget film. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER REVIEWS.

Summary: Please bomb come back in PLEASE!!
Review: John Carpenter's if not Dan O'Bannon's prequel to the(ir) future. A superbly entertaning spoof that makes me wish I had gone to film school, and get rich and famous.

Summary: Great Classic Film for Sci Fi Fans
Review: Good Sci Fi comedy has always been hard to accomplish succesfully, but this Video manages to do it. My copy of the video was not as good quatlity as I would have liked, but the Film is a classic and a must see for all serious Sci Fi Fans.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Smart bombs, a pesky alien, crew apathy and a lack of TP
Review: Few first effort films are as endearing or enduring as Dark Star. Humerous, frightening and odd it is a must see for any avid SciFi viewer.

Dan O'Bannon and John Carpenter's first effort.
