Summary: Just WOW
Review: So stupid it's riotous. The SCTV sketch was funny and I wouldn't really recommend buying the movie unless you're farmiliar with the history behind it. That just gives greater appreciation for the film. The old hosers are back and beer-hungry. Also, do not buy if you are Canadian, you will be offended. Not much else to say but it's so stupid it's hilarious.

Summary: You have to be from Up North.
Review: Coming from Minnesota, I can relate to the sense of humor of the McKenzie brothers. I grew up with Second City Television and have enjoyed this oddball humor movie for quite some time.

In some ways, it is Hope and Bing On Ice. But it is totally original. It is also completely silly. And that is what is fun about it.

If your looking for Oscar material, go rent something depressing. If you want to make like a couch potato on a cold winters night with a brewski in hand, this is the movie for you. Have fun, eh?

Summary: Hosers Paradise
Review: I dream of the day when the movie "Strange Brew" is released on DVD. Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas would provide feature-length audio commentary as their characters, Bob and Doug McKenzie. The DVD would include a behind the scenes documentary entitled "Brewing The Film." As a special bonus feature, it would include all of the hilarious commercials the McKenzie brothers did for Molson beer. The Collector's Edition DVD would also include a CD of Bob and Doug McKenzie - "Great White North," their hilarious comedy album. The staggering success of the DVD would prompt Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas to reunite as the McKenzie Brothers to film a sequel. It's a beauty way to go, eh?

Summary: Genuinely Funny
Review: Strange Brew is a quirky, laugh-out-loud comedy starring SCTV regulars Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis, who also co-write and direct. Although it does get a little dark (it is, after all, based on Hamlet), Thomas and Moranis maintain the laugh level with their hilarious bantering and clever gags. If you don't like it at first, watch it a couple of more times. It grows on you. Fast.

Summary: Take Off!
Review: One of the few films I actually need to have in my personal DVD collection...and it's not available.

Take Off!

I'm 28...this film was a cornerstone in the evolution of my beer consumption...and now...because I no longer have room in my entertainment center for a VHS player...I shall be forced to live without it.

Good thing GO! is out on DVD...more my lifestyle now anyway.

:-)

Summary: Genius "B" comedy
Review: This movie blends several "slam dunk" comedic elements - Canadians, hockey, insane asylums, beer, flying dogs, and, of course, vintage Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas - to create a "B" movie masterpiece. The movie was inspired by Hamlet, and was made with obvious Shakespearean inspiration: indeed it takes place at Elsinore Castle/brewery. In fact, if there is another movie out there that can meld so many totally nonsensical elements into a coherent and hilarious movie, please let me know about it.

"Steamroller!"

Brilliant.
