Summary: Grumpy Old Presidents
Review: Former presidents (and long time rivals) Kramer (the late Jack Lemmon) and Douglas (James Garner) try to uncover the truth when Kramer is implicated in a Whitewater-style kick-back scandle. After Air Force Two crashes the two are believed to be dead. Now the two are on the run from the current President's (Dan Aykroyd) men, especially an over anxious trouble shooter (usually slimy Everett McGill). I know I have described a political action thriller, but this is actually a very funny crude humored comedy. The two old presidents are the next two characters in a growing film trend to show that senior citizens still have life left in them. As old as Kramer and Douglas are, they can still run through forests and jump off trains if nessesary. They also happen to hate each other to the point that it is almost counterproductive to have them working together trying to prove their innocents. Their rivalry provide a lot of the jokes. Another source of laughs are from where the two presidents have been away from regulor people for so long that they have lost touch with who the American people are. On their adventure they run across the illeagle immagrents, gays, and vagabond migrant workers. There is also a rather sad scene where the two run across a family that have nearley been ruined by both men's White House policies in one way or another. They have been so wrapped up in 'the game' that they forgot their decisions effect real people. But once again it sounds like it is a drama and not a really effective comedy. There is a lot of mileage comparing the two presidents with their real life counterparts. Douglas is a womanizer, clearly modeled on President Clinton. And Kramer, well, I think that because of his stingieness with a dollar he is supposed to be Regan, but that is just a guess. No doubt about who President Haney (Aykroyd) is supposed to be; he is President Nixon almost to a T. I really enjoyed the film, it was funny and pretty intellegent (though certainly not a brain teaser). Not for younger kids though.

Summary: Too Funny!
Review: I initally saw this moving on a trans-pacific flight back to the States. I was laughing so hard I could barely contain myself! The other folks in the plane must have thought I was crazy. Garner and Lemmon are the perfect "duo" and their bantering back and forth makes this movie one of the funniest I have seen in a long time. There is a scene where a giant "jack in the box" restaurant head comes crashing thru their windshield - as many times as I have seen this - I still roll hysterically! A must have for the comedy collector!!!

Summary: So-So!
Review: I like James Garner and Jack Lemmon but do not feel this was their best work. They are both ex-presidents whom we find doing various jobs after their bout in the White House. One writes books that no one reads, one does speeches that no one listens to, and of course they hate each other.
Thrown together by circumstances making them the bad guys, they run for their lives and are forced to see America through each others eyes and the eyes of the people.
I would like to say it is enemies made friends, but I'm not sure that is how this movie ended. I didn't like some of the talk that went on and didn't feel it needed to be as crude as it was, I felt it took away from the movie. However, the two men as usual do a fine job of portraying their characters, I will give them that much! I have seen better but I have seen worse!

Summary: A Very Funny Movie James Garner And Jack Lemmon are awesome
Review: I love this movie and every thing about it it is about two ex-presidents who are accused of taking a kickback. It stars Jack Lemmon and James Garner there performances are very charming and very very funny. Even Laurn Bacall has some funny lines even though she is not in it much. I wish that Bacall was in it a little longer. Really what i think makes this movie works are the performances from Garner and Lemmon they work off each other and are very funny together.

Summary: A great funny movie - a surprise, too!
Review: I wanted to see this movie originally for Dan Ackroyd. I'm a fan of Dan's, and try to see everything he's in. That was my original reason for seeing this.

However, the Lemmon/Garner pairing was great! Once I realized that Ackroyd's chracter isn't a major player in the movie, and it really was a buddy movie between Lemmon & Garner, it took on a whole new tone.

Not to mention the fact that these actors were brilliant. They're from a generation of actors that just ooze professionalism. Most of today's actors haven't been around long enough to get that, but these guys were rock solid. Loved it! Funny movie, you can't go wrong here.

Lemmon died the day I wrote this - we'll miss him, he was a great actor!

Summary: Cant Stop Watching
Review: I whole heartedly agree with Mr. Bagenstose, very few of the critically acclaimed movies do I agree with. Mr. Keogh's review does not dim my love of this movie. You love the presidents and loath the bad guys. What I loved as well is how the camping family put them in their places and let them know what they had not done for their fellow americans. I loved at the end where all the people they had interacted with made their little comments like the immigrant "I came to this country with them", camping family father "I slept with them". I wholeheartedly recommend this to any Garner or Lemmon fans. Give me the legends and keep the current young crop of actors.

Summary: We Need These Guys in the White House NOW!!!
Review: I've always been a fan of both James Garner and Jack Lemmon but I had no idea they would have such great chemistry as they demonstrated here in MFA. Lemmon's character is a veiled George Bushie (not the current one, the one that actually got elected) and Garner is all but channeling Bill Clinton with a little LBJ thrown in. When these two opposing political dynamos are thrown together, they have to cooperate or they're dead meat thanks to the machinations of president Beldar Conehead (Dan Akyroyd to you and me!) and other corrupt ne'er do wells in the Federal Government, which, when you think about it is not that farfetched. These two screen legends share the screen perfectly and their characters are really fully developed. As someone who has always been interested in the presidency, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and personally I think it would've made a great TV series! Too bad we lost the great Jack Lemmon this year but his memory lives on in great movies like this one!

Summary: A Comedy Must!!
Review: If you enjoy a classic comedy then this is a MUST for you! Lemmon, Garner and Ackroyd make a hysterical mix in this political comedy. My husband had seen this and brought it home ... at first I was skeptical about watching it, but must admit I rolled through the entire thing. It is truly hysterical! Especially the "tuck and roll" scene!

Lauren Bacall adds a nice touch of class to an already hilarious movie. Trust me, this one will leave you in stitches!!

Summary: Absolutely hilarious
Review: If you love politics and comedy this is the perfect movie for you. The Republican/Democrat stereotypes are hilarious and the comments that lemmon and Garner have towards each other are incredibly sharp witted and funny. I think this is a film that any American should enjoy! A+
