Summary: TAKE A BOW JIM!
Review: The Truman Show is not actually on video where I live (the uK) till March 29th, but since I've seen it on cinema, I thought I'd put my two-penny worth in. This film just blew me away. The best film of 1998! Jim Carrey is just SUPERB in it. Normally, you either love or hate a Jim Carrey film (I've always loved him) but with The Truman Show, everyone (who posseses a brain that is) will love it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fantastic! Finally a GOOD movie from Jim Carrey!
Review: After stupid films such as Ace Ventura & Dumb & Dumber, Jim Carrey finally gets to act in a real film. This movie will make you think differently about the human rights of privacy, personal freedom, and dignity. Fantastic film, superior satire of our media oriented society. Without language, excessive violence & sex, this film is perfect for the family (children under 12 should watch with parental guidance)

Summary: Jim Carrey is a natural dramatic actor! (but bad DVD)
Review: This movie was spectacular. Jim Carrey seemed like he fitted for this role as if when the first letter of the script was written down, he was looking over the writer's shoulder! I loved the movie! I was upset that this wasn't nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture this year.

The thing that upsets me is that there is no other bonus material than the trailers. That's also what happened to Deep Impact. (produced by the same company, Paramount) Also, NO SUBTITLES on the movie! Only ugly black captions that get in the way of the actors' faces! The people at Paramount need to do better than that. There must be a special edition coming out sometime....

Also, the movie IS NOT preserved in its regular aspect ratio! The regular widescreen format is 1.85:1! Good movie, the DVD should've been added with stuff, like interviews, or the shooting script...anything!

Summary: Best effort by Jim Carrey since "The Cable Guy"
Review: This movie will disappoint those who came to see Jim talk out of his butt. Any actor who wants to succeed in this business must learn to do different things. Jim Carrey nailed this one. Get a big bowl of popcorn, your favorite soda, and turn on your imagination.

Summary: one of the most original movies ever created...
Review: As a viewer of previous Carey movies, I was astonished at the fact that Jim can be so charming, and yet reach the sentimental side of each and every individual without the bizarre act that plague his other movies. Perhaps one of the most remarkable aspects of the movie is that it makes you wonder and curious if that was ever possible, that maybe someone is out there watching you, and may cause one to be cautious of his or her current state. As the movie begin, it was rather quite confusing, for I had no previous knowledge on the basis of the plot, but through the later scenes, everything seems to unfold, and reveals itself and then that's when I felt that it would be fully enjoyable. The Truman Show proves to be a movie that must be seen, for it gives a somehow awkward perspective in life, and in it lives an experience difficult to forget, with a fresher look in each viewing.

Summary: The best movie of 1998.
Review: Jim Carrey has proven himself with this one. This is not stupid butt-talk, but a very gripping commentary on the collapse of privacy (possibly dealing with the stupidity of fame) and the strength of the will of human beings. Love plays a major role, but this is not a sappy romantic comedy, you actually CARE if Truman gets out to find his love or not. One of the most original movies ever; has some truly funny moments while never losing its grip. "The Truman Show" has action, comedy, drama, truckloads of heart, and get this; it makes you THINK. All in a movie by Jim Carrey. Definitely better than Spielberg's dollar-intensive, pretentious, been-there-done-that WW2 epic. However, this world is no more perfect than Truman's; the Oscar goes to...Tom Hanks.

Summary: I left the movie waving at the moon
Review: When you see the Truman Show, when you leave, you feel as if you are entering another world altogether. It examines so many aspects of our very existance, and asks the question: Is a life of entrapment, really a life? A movie that does what others have tried and failed, give you an interesting and sometimes frightening look at the world around us, and what we could become.

Summary: Jim Carey shines in this flacid movie
Review: I had heard what an excellent movie this was. perhaps if I hadn't I would have enjoyed it a little more. The Truman Show was an interesting idea, but if this was the best show of 98, then movies must have really sucked that year. Actually, I saw much better movies in 98 so I know this is actually just a lie. I didn't hate the movie, but I didn't like it either. I have been more excited by the contents of a tissue after blowing my nose, but I threw the tissue away. I would do the same with this movie.
