Summary: Carrey lights up screen
Review: Jim Carrey was brilliant in his role as Truman Burbank, the star of the Truman Show. This was Carrey's finest performance in his for the most part great career. (The Cable Guy stunk. Bad.) Without a doubt, the Truman Show is the most original movie I have seen. (EDtv is a Truman Show wannabe) Burbank was adopted by a tv corporation and had his entire life aired. The ending is no surprise, but that doesn't stop the enjoyment. If you haven't seen this movie, please do. You don't know what you're missing.

Summary: This is a dumb movie
Review: I hate this movie. I hate the plot, the concept is really stupid, and the ending is not a suspenseful cliffhanger but a mere cut out of nowhere. The director is obviously trying to suck as much money out of the public as possible because this is definetly a sequel ending. I give it ten thumbs down!!!

Summary: THE BEST FILM OF 1998
Review: This is easily one of the most original, exceptional studio films in years. "The Truman Show" is not merely a melodrama with a few comic moments, as many people will have you believe; it is actually one of the most potent media / social satires in film history. "The Truman Show" speaks of a consumerist population that is slowly watching their world decrease in size. Instead of living a life of their own, they are content to follow the monotonous path of a media-defined niche, working jobs they hate, living in "perfect" suburban homes... In short, settling, spending, and not taking risks. However, as "The Truman Show" so powerfully points out through the life of it's main character, living what the media defines as a "normal life" will only produce a society where everything around you is dull and unreal, and everyone around you is acting only as they think they are supposed to. When Truman finally discovers the horrible secret surrounding his life, it is actually the portrait of a man who has finally discovered that everything is made of plastic... Except the power of man's determination. This film is truly a marvel.

Summary: wonderful
Review: This movie was different, and beautifully acted by Jim Carrey. He deserved an Oscar! Seaside, Florida is such a wonderful place. It was the perfect setting for this movie! I loved the fact that my 10 year old could watch it too. I'll never get over the slight by the academy on this one.

Summary: Brillant!! Absolutly brillant!!!!!!!
Review: This has to be Jim Carrey's greatest performance ever. It showed first that he is a versital actor, and second, there are still some good movies out their. Yes, their may have been movies like this before, but they have never been made this well. One of my all time favorites!!!!

Summary: AN INSULT TO MY INTELLIGENCE
Review: The Amazon.com review calls it "intriguing and touching." Leonard Maltin calls it a "satire of our voyeuristic, consumer-driven society." Why have sophisticated film critics taken this annoying, bizarre, sophmoric film so seriously? I found this movie so blatantly and unintentionally contrived, it made me sick to watch it. The characters and performances turned me off more than those of any other movie I've seen (with the exception of The English Patient), especially the actress who played Truman's nurse wife (she has a very unnatural, annoying screen presence). Jim Carrey's trademark comedic attributes seemed completely stifled--a huge waste of talent.

I think this movie would have worked much better as a black comedy rather than a hokey melodramatic satire that took itself MUCH too seriously. Peter Weir should stick to directing drama. Maybe someday he'll replicate another Witness.

Summary: Creative, thought-provoking, Carey should be proud!!
Review: I loved this. It was creative, thought-provoking, and I can surely hope that Jim Carey is proud of himself. He was made to do this. Don't go see this movie with the expectations of a rubber-face comedy, any one who does will be P.O.ED!! It was a wonderful drama, and a gem of the movie business. It brought up a creative idea, and, might I say, the idea was so original. It was one of my favorite mobies of 1998. Two Thumbs up!! :)

Summary: What a big disappointment!!!
Review: What a letdown. This movie could have been so great. All that talent & all we get is a watered down mediocre twilight zone/ silly sitcom morph. There were so many opportunities for Peter Weir to go over the top, to be really imaginative & mind-stretching, but what we get is so totally boring & predictable (by a 5 year old child at that). I'm surprised they didn't cast Tom Arnold as Truman. A total waste of time & talent!!!

Summary: Possibly the best of '98 and the most original in years.
Review: Trusting in the talents of Jim Carey and uknown composer Burkhard Dallwitz (Australia), director Peter Weir turns a promising screenplay into a true example of what an 'original' motion picture should be.
